The plot thickens (and gets a lot more complicated).
Last I heard official support for multiple displays/Crossfire Freesync was still in the air so is it possible that the ghosting is something a driver issue could address?
TBH, after hearing your explanation I'm not really interested in either technology anymore as neither is quite the holy grail of smooth, input-lag free gaming I thought they were.
And AMD and Nvdia really have their wo...
To be honest I get the impression that more so than slowing them down, publishers are putting them out now that they've realised that, holy shit, true new-gen games take ages to make.
Are you sure? That appears to contradict AMD's own promotional materials which state that screen-tearing is still possible if you don't enable both v-sync and freesync together:
Check out the slide entitled 'Beyond Dynamic Refresh rate here':

I'm working on the assumption that when AMD says "Typical M...
Wait, so AMD's implementation makes you choose between eliminating screen-tearing or lag-less input? Huh, that makes it's cheaper buy-in price for the consumer less appealing. G-Sync is certainly more expensive but I seem to have gotten the impression that it has both bases covered.
I could still imagine it working. Presumably the story would retcon the genders of the respective participants if you chose a female link.
That way it would be perfectly possible for (for example) a Majora's Mask sequel to follow the same "female" Link that "appeared" (in retcon) in MM and OOT, even if no female Link is actually available to the player in those games.
But it should be an option. Not a replacement. Otherwise the whole ...
Which is a shame because the Tomb Raider series is dying for a prequel with Lara's father as the protagonist. We hear so, so, sooooo much about his exploits and yet don't even have any contact with him.
Even in the reboot they opted to include a father-figure than Lara's father outright. A choice which I found kind of... well, bizarre.
Ahaha. I was reminded of a T-shirt I saw at a con recently that read "What if Zelda was a girl?".
I've actually thought having Link be either male of female could work for most of the Zelda games out there. Most. Sure he's referred to as a "hero" in legend, but it's not a stretch for a female "hero" to have become a male "hero" as their story trades hands and generations. Besides, the series is full of shaky retcon anyway. ...
I wouldn't put it past them to patch DX12 support in later to be honest. That's going by the way CD Projekt Red have approached the post-release support of the previous Witcher games.
They treat their software releases as long-term investments into the software market rather than grab-cash-and-run affairs.
Phew! Thank goodness for that! With the all the talk of specifications before I was worried I'd not be able to play the game well, but it sounds like even I'd be able to hit 60 (8350 BE/290/16GB), albeit at High/4xAA or something like that (and let's be honest, how many of those ultra settings are worth the performance hit in games anyway?).
And this is with that HairWorks option on. Not heard of it before but I'm assuming it's something like TressFX righ...
It says right there in the article:
"As Gamestar reported, an Intel i7-4790 with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX980 was able to run the game at 1080p on Ultra settings with almost constant 60fps. "
Damn. Bet it will be scratched up to high hell and full of icky gunk after just 3 days in CEX's hands. I find it bizarre how their staff are so anal about taking items in with scratches and the like only to sell items in abysmal condition.
With the architecture of the new consoles being closer to the PC it would make more sense (I think) to port it from them rather than the old machines. Which makes this decision all the more baffling.
Specs seem too high for a fighting game. And what is essentially a half-way last gen fighting game at that. Very disappointing. Gonna see about cancelling that preorder as I made it in good faith that this would be THE definitive master of the game.
Might pick up the console version on the cheap instead.
Interesting distinction. Can you give a few examples of each so I can get a better idea of what you mean?
I get the impression there's also some overlaps at times between the two.
The advancements they're making in hardware these days with power, performance and pricing and thermal design is really amazing. Especially when you consider we haven't even jumped down to the next nm process. Can't even begin to imagine what will happen when we do.
Exciting times for those that follow tech news, but a lot of painful waiting for those on the fence about new hardware.
"Note that you never see a single woman complain about DOA its always men trying to be politically correct who complain"
It's weird how that works. And yet that is precisely how I've found things in my experience.
See, these kind of criticisms actually make sense when examining an underlying issue that's not being talked about. DOA totally does not fit that bill.
It's about as in-your-face as it can get with its sexy characters, so to complain about them misses the point of what the game is. If you have a problem with it then it's ultimately your own fault for buying the game and getting exactly what was advertised.
We're going dangerously from the po...
Huh. I didn't know about Raptr even though I've heard of it before. That's something I'll want to look into.
The season pass came packaged with my copy (PS4) of the game. And I got it at a discount (£34.99) a week or two AFTER release. I assumed this was the case for most people.
You can still find copies with the season pass bundled in for less than £20 even in brick-and-mortar shops if you look.
I really hope that some more time with the game engine has meant the dev has come up with the optimisations necessary for a rock-solid 30fps this time, and hopi...
I'm as excited as anyone to suddenly get oodles of "free" performance out of hardware that's just been sitting in my machine not doing an awful lot. But I remain sceptical of developer uptake and real life gains.
I hope my scepticism is proven baseless.
