I can't see how you make that assumption Logic. If he means consumers in general, then he could make that observation about knowing what a playstation or xbox is period.

He's referring to target consumers.

In time there will be some noticeable improvements. Better AA, higher frame rate, higher resolution, more geometry, better textures, better shader effects, and better physics will all lead to more impressive visuals and bigger worlds.

Initially the games may not "look better" as much as they "play better". I suspect 3 or 4 years down the line next generation games will visually separate themselves from the current generation.

Mistwalker avoids the PS3 because Sakaguchi had a falling out with Sony's executives. This happened when he was at Square, and IIRC its one of the reasons why he left.

They still make some pretty good games though, and they would have success on PS platforms. Sony really should try to patch that relationship up.

I think too much effort has been put in to developing it as a PS3 game. Restarting development on the PS4 would be a daunting task considering how different it will be from an architectural standpoint. It would not be ready for a PS4 launch. Its probably not even going to be released for the PS3 before the PS4 launches.

I hope it is too, but I wouldnt count on that happening. If the rumors about the CPU in the PS4 are true, the only way to get BC in the PS4 will be to include PS3 hardware.

Before Sony released the 1st PS3 Slim they polled potential customers about backward compatibility. The overwhelming majority responded that they would rather pay less for the console than have BC.

Xenogears sequel or prequel. Just because the Xenogears developers left to form Monlith does not mean Square should let that IP die.

To be fair, Dead Space 2 came with Dead Space Extraction, ported to the PS3 with move support.

I dont mind Visceral throwing 360 players a bone with Kinect Commands. They may add something for that audience, but its nothing that really changes the core experience.

I do get where the author is coming from though. Pap should have simply said that they did not want to delay release of the game to port the PC version to DX11. Instead he came up with a BS excus...

Some PSN games might be ported over, but I am almost sure that there will be no backward compatibility unless the PS3 hardware is included in the new console. Emulation isn't possible.

The options are either another $599 console or no backward compatibility. Sony is going to go with option number 2, and so will Microsoft.

It looks pretty good. But its not a huge visual leap over the field in Final Fantasy XIII, if any at all. That was probably the most impressive aspect of FFXIII. But at this point I have much more faith in Monolith's ability to make a great game, rather than just a pretty game.

This game is going to force me to get a Wii U, hopefully I'll be able to wait until the first price drop. I have always been a huge fan of Monolith, but I would like to see them take another...

Many PS3 games have uncompressed 7.1 audio and their FMVs are encoded at a much higher bitrate.

I game on a PC and love me some Steam games. But most FMVs have artifacts, and the audio isn't quite as good. Is there a real "need" for bluray games? No, but it does add to the experience.

It would also be nice to have the option for full or partial installations, but not necessarily the need to do so. If you compress data on disc then you elim...

That is all true, but mamotte's response is to the title of this opinion piece. If cardio and fat loss is your only goal, you don't need a gym membership. You don't need Kinect either.

If you want real muscle definition you need to lift weights. You don't need PEDs to get there either...just a clean diet and commitment to the gym.

My understanding is that XSEED was already working on the PSP translation...but there is twice as much dialog in SC as there is in FC so its going to take a while.

Don't know how much they have done on it, if any at all, but it would be nice if they just go ahead and go for the PSN version.

A "GPGPU" isn't a drop-in replacement for a CPU. Its good at subset of tasks, particularly performing the same operation on a large set of data simultaneously. Also remember that the Wii U GPU is based on the R700 architecture, which is feature limited when it comes to General Purpose operations. It was a first generation ATI GPGPU.

Finally, we are talking about roughly a 4770 in the Wii U. Its not beefy enough to divert resources from graphics operations ...

Here ya go.

Now its obviously not as robust as the Wii U, but the PS3 has been doing this selectively via remote play for some time. It only made sense for Nintendo to take the idea and make it better. All competitors do this.

You need to buy the PS3 version to get both.

I'll tell you what is wrong with Windows 8 for desktops. The metro interface is essentially a fullscreen start menu. That is a terrible idea, because it takes you away from your work. It also gets cluttered easily if you install a lot of applications. You mention Windows 3.1, Metro on the desktop is essentially a step backwards towards 3.1. Finally, Metro is clearly an avenue for MS to push advertisements to the desktop.

Yeah, that was one problem. The delay in versus is an extention of the delay in XIII. Nomura and his team were pulled off VS to work on XIII.

It should be noted that one reason XIII took so long was because development for it started on the PS2. They basically had to scrap everything and restart on the PS3.

Its already been reported that all weapons and gear were obtained legally through retail. Glocks, assault rifles, and tactical gear are not cheap.

I'm not saying that he was somehow financed through a 3rd party, but he did manage to scrape together quite a bit of cash to afford this. Probably closer to $10K total than $20K though. Could have used a student loan obtained for the semester he withdrew from school.

I'd like to see KOSMOS added, but if they need permission from Monolith it wont happen. I'd assume that Namco owns that IP though.
