@Dv8thwonder and Sidar
Bubbles for both of you for your impartial comments.
Nice comment before Sidar, regarding the NDS. I agree with you on the NDS, it really did have less than stellar titles at it's beginning, that being why I only bought Ninty's handheld when a NDS lite came out, with more games of interest. I'm certain if I wait enough, Ninty will bring some good core titles for me to get a Wii.
@Mini Mario
I realize that the casual market is where the money is at, but if you read my post, I've already said I'm more of a core gamer. As a party system, the Wii is probably the best, but for games that I play alone, it's a terrible system for me. Regardless of how you cut it, their core games are few and seldom compared to all other platforms, even their own NDS.
Say what you will, but from what I've seen, casual gamers buy less games, period. I have mor...
@v1c1ous
I've come to the reason that Nintendo has already won this gen, but I'm still very doubtful about 360 being number 2 this gen. You come in with a knock towards the PS3, to which my fair response is that it still has more quality titles to tide it over than the 360.
As I said before, Sony doesn't need to be at the top to do well this gen. Like Nintendo, they have more than one system to rely on in the psp and the current king of all home consoles, the P...
@Xander-RKoS
I'm going to only semi-agree with your comments. Mentioning Animal crossing in your post was a very poor choice IMO. Animal crossing was a contentious issue in 2008, when Nintendo chose to announce it as hardcore at E3, only to later apologize to core fans who had their hopes crushed for something less than casual.
Hopefully you won't crucify me when I say this, I did get a NDS as my 1st gaming platform this gen, after all. The fact of the matt...
Couldn't we just say that Killzone is standing in the same crowd as COD4, Halo and GeOW? This whole taking the crown business is just to solicit responses. Sadly, I'm one of those idiots who contributed to the fanbait.
Thanks a lot FPS shooter, I try to be as fair as possible for my comments. There's already enough fanboyerism on sites like this and kotaku.com, that I really don't need to contribute to them, unless it's done in a rational sense.
I agree Trebius, a lot of people keep talking about their HD games and systems, yet they don't realize that future games will need larger capacity disc like blu-rays or a whole lot of dvd's.
People may not complain about 1-4 disc swapping, but I'm certain they would think differently if it was upwards of 10 disc. People these days want bigger and better games, just like CD's to DVD games. If that's the case, why all the hoopla about DVD to Blu-ray?
People fro...
If all you want to do is look for new trailers without the hassle of following blog sites; just go to gametrailers.com, youtube or google. It'll save you a lot of grief from all the fanboy banter and hollering found here at N4G and at sites like kotaku.com.
They promised a hardcore game announcement at E3 2008 and what did they give us, Animal Crossing. I don't want empty promises from Nintendo, since most of the core titles I see for the Wii, like No more heroes 2, Mad World, Monster Hunters etc., seem to be coming from 3rd party companies. About the only thing I'm excited from Nintendo, is Punchout and Sin and Punishment 2, titles I intend to buy for my nieces so I can play them.
@v1c1ous
Whether games are present or not, the PS3 still outsells the 360, so save your breath already. You don't seem to realize that the PS3 doesn't need a huge amount of games, just certain ones like FFXIII, Versus's and Shin Megami Tensei. Those titles will bring more games to the PS3 while pushing away most publishers from doing exclusives for the 360, you can bet on that.
If anything the lack of quality RPG's from the 360 is more surprising. I don't need a lot of rpg's, just a few quality ones like Valkyria Chronicles. No worries, the future release of FFXII, Versus's and Shin Megami Tensei exclusives for the PS3 in Japan, will turn the rpg tide quickly to the PS3.
@Conan997 and Aquanox
The UK numbers has no bearing on one certain popular genre of games, namely rpg's. If the MS didn't realize this, they wouldn't be putting out rpg exclusives to increase their abysmal market share in Japan.
Secondly, talking about the UK is kind of a moot point considering they don't represent the numbers that Europe as a whole does, nor do they put out the number of games that Japan does. You can moan about the numbers in Japan all you wa...
Mandatory installs for PS3 games is something that can be overcome with good programming. Look at games like deadspace that only has a small 600kb file for trophies and Uncharted that has no load times.
DVD's are a limit, for game companies, MS only allows 2 disc before charging a fee for each additional disc. That information came from John Carmack of Id gaming that's making Rage, a known pro-360/anti-PS3 game producer.
Dvd has/will put a limitation on what ca...
@Sir Daniel Fortesque
Ironically your initials are SDF, a good acronym for the Sony Defense Force.
If sales are all your going by, you should show yourself to the door, since Gran Turismo wipes the floor with Halo. I guarantee you that when GT5 comes out, any game other than Halo/GeOW that 360 puts out, will get the floor wiped with them.
I remember playing Halo 2, quite frankly I didn't care for it. Not everyone likes Halo, live with it or kind...
Which is why the article about both versions selling roughly the same was fanboy based to begin with.
If SE releases FFXIII on the 360 in Japan, that would put back the PS3 release at least 6 months if it's a simultaneous release. I really doubt SE could afford to make the fanbase in Japan wait any longer than they have too.
Ethnocentrism may be a factor, but I'm guessing it has more to do with the higher userbase of the PS3. Another factor is that the japanese have higher standards for hardware, possibly a reason the 360 has sold poorly IMO, with or without those rpg exclusives.
@SocomNick
If those MS bribes were keeping SE afloat, why would they need the pay cut? Putting their games multi-platform would probably have made them more money.
The only thing keeping SE afloat are five words; "Dragon Quest","Final Fantasy" and "remake". About the best option out of the financial hole for them involves these four words, "Final Fantasy 7 remake", either that or get FFXIII, DQ9 and DQ10 out.
I don't have a internet connection for my PS3 yet, but I'll have one eventually (just moved a few months ago). You don't really need full service high speed internet, as long as it's 30kb/sec it should be sufficient, and that's usually half the cost of full high speed internet service.
Tekken 6 looks very good at the arcade in my local area. You should note that Tekken 6 uses sony's cell processor at the arcade, I highly doubt there will be any major issues with the PS3 version. Even if the 360 has better resolution, it would not negate PS3's better d-pad. You literally have to go get a 360 joystick to negate 360's terrible d-pad.
