How exactly is Sony shooting themselves in the foot? The profit from each PS2 hardware offsets the loss they incur from every PS3. Even if they're losing a sale for the PS3, they're taking business away from the Wii and 360, while ultimately making profit for the Sony brand as a whole.
Secondly, there's the potential that customers buying these $99 PS2 may end up getting a psp (pretty much a handheld PS2) or a PS3 later as an upgrade. You laugh now, but I guarantee you, PS...
@Strikepackage Bravo
The harddrive issue is in favor of Sony if you ask me. I or anyone who owns a PS3 can switch the harddrive for up to a 500 GB 2.5" harddrive without voiding the 1 year warranty for the PS3.

Sony has always been known to move the game industry forward. If they didn't com...
The best thing MS can do, is to dismiss the PS2, seeing as it's still competing with the 360 for last spot on a weekly basis in Japan. I don't see why people see the price drop for the PS2 as a bad thing. For anyone with a a PS3 that doesn't have BC, it's a great option. A lot of people are still playing PS2 games, me being one of them.
If I was MS, I would have excluded the comment on old technology since the 360 isn't exactly a technological masterpiece, far from it in fac...
The cryengine is great for PC games, but I'll reserve judgment on it being a great engine for console games when it finally puts something out. Until then, the best engine is the KZ engine, that is, until GOW, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 arrive to challenge it for graphical supremacy.
@socomnick
Are you sure about that, b/c I'm certain Sam House from Rockstar warned MS right after GTA4 came out that it's dvd capacity would limit what they want to do for GTA5, clearly disputing your claim that the PS3 is holding multi-platform games back.
I think the whole multi-platform card isn't something 360 fanboys can use anymore considering most multi-platform games look and play the same, unless your using a microscope to look for minor details. I'd ...
Ah crap (>_<)@#!$%, more $$ to reserve for another Sony exclusive! I'm ecstatic that another fantastic title will someday make it to my collection, but I'm secretly crying inside over my poor wallet status (-_-);;.
How about if they add features from the 360 that they don't have now; like standard in game music, cross game invites and messaging etc.?
If your going to call the kettle black for the PS3, then disregard 360 upgrades like NXE, avatars (360-Mii's) and so-called "blade" format bar (*ahem* Sony's XMB). It would probably do you some good to forget that new 360 motion control/camera as well, even though it's been touted to be superior to the wii-mote.
I'm happy about the recent Zelda Spirit Train announcement (I love 2D Zelda games), but I'll reserve judgement about their future announcements at this years E3. I'm still boiling over their announcement of Animal Crossing as their core game for E3 '08. Hopefully this year, they'll renew my faith by announcing Sin and Punishment 2, Fragile, Arc Rise Fantasia and hopefully Wii-plus functionality for Punchout.
If Nintendo does disappoint again this year, we'll at least have a g...
@4.1 XDF
It's always been a past time of 360 fanboys to use sales or graphical comparison for superior multi-platform games. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are not all 360 arguments of late, with regards to multi-platform, about better graphics e.g. RE5 etc. I don't see a problem with GeOW2 being the best the 360 has done so far, it's a good looking game, just that IMO like those of others, KZ2 seems to the best looking game at the moment. I'm certain Uncharted 2, GOW3 and GT5...
Your pinning your hopes on a multi-platform engine that's not going to show the fruits of its labor until 2011 at earliest. People scrutinized Guerilla's tech demo of KZ2 from several years ago, yet mostly came through with their promise. Expect this cry-engine to be under that same scrutiny until they churn out some console games as visual proof.
Now that you know Kojima is a gaming god, feel free to bow and worship him as you may (^_^).
On a serious note, anything Kojima does is worth a look or even a blind buy if you ask me. I'm looking forward to this years E3, now that we all know Kojima will announce his new project.
Hyping a tech demo is ridiculous if you ask me. Why are people jumping up and down for something we all won't see for another 2 years, minimum? By that time GT5, GOWIII and killzone 3 etc will be out to push the graphical limit even higher than it is now with KZ2.
If your jumping on the 360 fanwagon, the point is, this is a "multi-platform" engine yet to put out a game to prove it's graphical prowess. If anything, the difference will be minimal and pushed hard to m...
Programming PS3 games in the 1st year was difficult, due to the unique PS3 architecture. It's better IMO that Polyphony and Santa Monica studios waited a bit before producing their destine sequels. The point is, the PS3 installbase will expand, regardless of when GOW3 and GT5 actually arrives.
@bobdog626
MS isn't doing as well as some would lead us to believe. Zunes isn't serious competition for the Ipod (which I hate just as much as Zunes), from what I gather the Zune division may be gone by years end.
The 360 has already lost to the Wii, while being unable to outsell the PS3 by twice the margin, even though it has a model that's half the cost.
Vista was a miserable failure, which is why MS is pinning their hopes on the next Windows so...
From a company that denied RROD never existed until a billion dollar lawsuit was put forward in their home country, they deserve some bashing for releasing the most faulty hardware in gaming history. The 360 now has error E74 replacing the RROD issue, which by the way, still exist even with the Jasper chipset.
I am not a fan of MACS for their overpriced proprietary limiters (kind of like 360 harddrives/wifi adapters etc.) found in every one of their computers, but they're just...
I can see it now guys, another MS rep will soon make one of the following announcements:
1. Internet Explorer 8 will surpass Firefox and Chrome (I think MS already did this one).
2. 360 will beat the Wii and PS3 for combined worldwide hardware sales.
Better yet
3. The Zune will outsell the Ipod!
Someone at MS should get a move on one of the announcements above, they seem to be on a roll commenting on their direct co...
If anything, Sony could drop the price of the PS2 to $99 a couple month's before Christmas '09 and it'll sell like hotcakes!
Hmm...I think the MS rep who gave this statement must have been using some high quality marijuana before commenting. Unless they can somehow stop people from buying it exclusively on the PS3 in Japan, 6-12 month's prior to a worldwide release, they just committed ritual harikari for their japanese rep.
Can anyone going to GDC or E3 do me a favor, "point and laugh" at the MS rep while saying FFXIII (do it like Nelson from The Simpsons). Maybe it'll slap MS's arroganc...
Did everyone notice the "current games by aggregate review score", for the PSP and PS3? They both beat out their nearest competition, the NDS and 360 for "great" and "good" current games. Sony seems to be on a good streak, even at metacritic reviews.
I think having multiple disc will actually keep graphics levels mostly on par. What I don't like is the fact there are multiple disc to swap in and out to begin with. Fanboys may say swapping disc is much ado about nothing, but I bet they'd answer differently if they were stuck with dvd for the next xbox system after the 360.
Ultimately, I don't think multiple disc will be a major issue affecting sales for people interested in playing on the 360. The major diffential factor b...
