I've been coming to this site for a long time, and I honestly don't remember many arguments over HD-DVD vs. BluRay, until recently. Then again, maybe it's because I never cared enough to click on the articles about the two formats.
I'm one of those gamers who never got the HD-DVD add on, or cared about either. My DVD upconverter works fine for now. I will get BluRay eventually and continue to enjoy the greatest games out there on my Xbox 360.
From a gaming standpoint, it doesn't affect the 360, obviously.
A good way to find out if 360 owners care or not about the death of HD-DVD would be to see what percentage of 360 owners actually bought the HD-DVD add-on. I didn't. Does anyone know where we could find out? I was personally waiting for a definite winner. I like the BluRay format better. BluRay holds more data on the discs.
This is officially the geekiest thread I've ever seen.
MS is committed to righting their wrong. They've put the time in to make the RROD go away, especially in newer consoles. It appears to be working too. Notice how RROD articles are less and less?
Of course, Sony fanboys will never let it go, and anytime they get into an argument of which is better, their pathetic crutch will always be RROD, RROD, RROD, even in a few years from now. Don't be naive to think that a major company wouldn't correct such a major problem.
@JsonHenry - normally when someone says to grow thicker skin, I agree with them. However, I saw the episode it was talking about, and the dude went beyond trash talking and even beyond using racial slurs. He threatened to track him down and kill his family. That's messed up.
Believe me, I'm a guy who loves racial humor. I find Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Carlos Mencia (sometimes) to be hilarious. I love Eric Cartman from South Park too. I listen to Opie and Anthony ev...
For Nintendo's next system, they should release both a Wii controller and a regular controller. If they did that, and they got a whole bunch of 3rd parties to come aboard with all of the cool games that come out for the other two, as well as continue to develop their online gaming, they'd absolutely dominate.
Who wouldn't want a system that caters to the casual and hardcore at the same time?
I'm just glad that the marketshare is more even, so Sony doesn't get all of the best exclusives. It is AWESOME that GTA, Resident Evil, and to a lesser extent, Devil May Cry are all on Xbox now.
All 3 have something to offer. Xbox has the best games, PS3 has BluRay, and the Wii has kids and old people.
Sony and MS are enemies in the video game world, but they can cooperate in other areas. Sony has to use MS's operating system for its computers, and MS may use Sony's format for DVD's. I fully support MS releasing a BluRay player for the 360.
MS stands behind securing the exclusivity rights to Game of the Year candidates. How did you like Bioshock? Oh, that's right, you didn't play it (unless you're a PC gamer).
"But most of all, like i've stated a few times, xbox 360 will never outsell ps3 because its aimed at a hardcore audience. Highest attach rates, willingness to pay for online, its shows that its a hardcore gamers console."
-- I guess that's a good thing, since I'm a hardcore gamer. Are you not? Regardless of which one sells more in the end, I've got the best console with the best games. I have noticed more and more though that they're aiming at the casual gamer. S...
Cool, I didn't know that framerate could fluctuate within a game.
As an Xbox 360 owner, the only thing I'm "heartbroken" about is that I don't know which AAA title to buy next.
You also have to watch out for the cheap imitation consoles in Mexico. That 360 you buy might not be a 360 after all.
(stupid hippie voice): I think this problem can be blamed on Microsoft, maaaaaaannnnnn. They probably pay off the stores to charge more, maaaaaaaaannnnnnn. Stupid Microsoft, they're responsible for global warming and AIDS too, maaaannnnnnnn. They also pay off all of the websites to give low reviews to Sony games, like Lair. Dragons rule, maaaannnnnnnnn.
Message to Microsoft:
For God sakes MS, go with BluRay! That's one of the reasons you made the HD-DVD drive external! It served two purposes: 1) to not force the consumer to pay for an HD DVD format, and 2) to give you the option to switch if HD-DVD lost, which, after the past few hours, you can pretty much stick a fork in it.
If Sony can partner with you to use Windows on their PC's, then you can partner with them to use BluRay.
@heyhey - Yes, a lot of games that are on the 360 also come out on the Microsoft owned Games for Windows, which is great...if you're a PC gamer. Most people are one or the other though; either PC gamers or console gamers. I know I could care less about what comes out for the PC. I also know that the 360 has the better game lineup.
I love how after you list the games you put a little comment. It's funny how every 360 game looks generic and boring, and how every PS3 game that...
The PS3 may very well pass the 360 in terms of sales. Sony has a HUGE fanbase from PS1 and PS2. However, the 360 and Wii have taken a huge chunk out of that fanbase. The PS3 won't dominate like the PS2 did. As far as game library, my money is on the 360 to continue to have the superior selection.
A little question about Xbox Live: How does Live having a few technical issues constitute as a "meltdown"? It's working just fine now, as it does 99% of the time. Any ...
Unless MS releases a 360 with built in HD-DVD, HD-DVD should just give it up. If the 360 would've had HD-DVD built in from the start, then BluRay would be the one calling it quits.
I haven't seen screen comparisons of the two formats, but I know that they both have the same resolutions and that BluRay holds more info. I think everyone should go with BluRay and end the format war, and the 360 should make a BluRay player.
An asinine comment with (currently) 28 agrees. There sure are a lot of dumb motherfu**ers on this website.
The 360 was the undisputed champ of 2007, and it will give the PS3 a run for its money in 2008. When the end of the year comes, you'll still be saying "Just wait, the PS3 will show its superior graphics one day". Morons.
Just to be perfectly clear, I might buy a PS3 myself one day, as I think it is an awesome system. But there are so many of yo...
I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony win again due to their large install base, but it will be awhile before they see first place. Right now, I don't see anyone stopping the momentum of the Wii. Maybe eventually some of the casual Wii gamers will become hardcore gamers and get a 360 or PS3.
