"a lot of people on this site really don't know how audio/video works do they?"

You seem to be chief amongst them.

"the laser on a ps4 isn't capable (even if there were firmware update) of decoding a UHD 4K disc properly. "

They use the exact same laser, it isn't the laser that is the problem at all.

No laser is capable of decoding anything, it's a beam of freaking light ffs.

The drive components are all UHD compliant, the firmware isn't.

They didn't debunk it, they said it wasn't possible (but weren't specifically talking about the technique being touted in this article).

He effectively said "we can't just flip a switch and turn on 4k Blu-ray".... We know how those kind of remarks have a history of backfiring.

It can't play 8 track cassettes either, nor vinyl and it makes a terrible gramophone.

No, they gave us a version of it. There's no tricking involved at all, we aren't as easily fooled as boners are.

But Andrew House said just yesterday that they couldn't activate it at a later date, it wasn't possible.

I hope he was just mistaken (He can't just flip a switch after all.....or can he?).

But if you look at the stats it is true. When does an adult get a chance to play on a handheld?

Whilst driving to work?
Whilst working?
When going down the pub to socialise?

When you are young and don't have your own home a handheld makes sense. Otherwise the only chance you'll get to use it is at home.
Why play a portable machine when you can play a better home console?

I know there are exceptions, b...

It hasn't been confirmed at all. In fact their latest interview said that it was "targeting" a UHD drive.

They will drop the drive if the format fails (it is selling terribly at the moment).

Just as PS4 Pro will be when it releases.

Except PS4 is undeniably better than Xbone in almost every measurable metric.
Those scientists aren't very scientific now are they?

"Wait for the second, secret, hidden GPU to be switched on"

That's the one that blew me away, just how much of a mental case do you need to be to believe that kind of BS.

Except the boards here are full of the "waits" that Doabarrelroll mentioned, whereas yours represent less than 1% of that total.

Seriously, there are hundreds of pages of Xbox one fans saying "wait for ...", It doesn't work the other way round as the " wait for's" are always about the XBox One suddenly growing in power to match (or beat) the PS4 's performance.

He could have added;

Neither will be 4k native, what's your point?

3563d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

Pro is a real console that you can buy and play games on. Scorpio only exists on paper and the chips don't even exist yet.

That makes the Pro infinitely more powerful at the moment (and for at least a year to come).

@Neonridr

How is getting a FREE OS (windows 10) giving money to Microsoft?

I always use hacked/improved versions of windows as I don't ever give money to Microsoft, this time I didn't have to.

Nobody uses 4k Blu Ray though (check the sales figures). What is the point of strapping a dodo onto your console?

It only serves for bragging rights, nothing more. Only a tiny proportion of gamers have a 4k TV.

I won't lie, I would be happier if it were included, but at the same time I am fully aware that it isn't a feature I would be using any time soon (if ever).

@uth11

PS4 (standard) competes well with the average PC in real world terms. The "average" gaming PC struggles with 1080p /60 according to steam (active online players, not registrations).

PS4 Pro will out perform 80% of gaming PC's. You can have a powerful monster of a PC, but very few people do (despite most PC gamers claiming they have).

@EpicSandwich

6Tflops doesn't mean native 4k anything. In fact you could fill those 6Tflops with masses of effects and AA and be unable to render anything above 900p if you so choose.

Native 4k gaming will only be possible on certain games that aren't too graphically advanced.

Native 4k on Scorpio is like 1080p/60 on X1, yes it is possible, yes people believed it would mean 1080p/60 on all X1 games before it launched, yes it fai...

It won't do native 4k gaming as standard, 6Tflops isn't powerful enough for that. It will have a number of 4k games, but most content will be upscaled, just like the Pro.

Hopefully Microsoft will employ advanced techniques like Sony have to make the machine more powerful than its raw numbers suggest.

One is real, exists now and released in a few weeks, the other only exists on paper and the APU it will use hasn't even been finalised yet.

PS4Pro is currently the most powerful, when Scorpio is real it will take its place.

The big question is whether or not there will be a noticeable difference between the two graphically.
