If you have an XBoxOne and want it to display HDR, you have to pay $299. If you have a PS4 and want it to display in HDR you pay exactly nothing.

The controller chip was obviously not a standard HDMI 1.4, but a more substantial chip with 2.0 complience (just loaded with 1.4 firmware).
Microsoft either didn't think of doing it or would prefer people to buy a new console.
It ought to be, it is an update that costs several hundred dollars whereas the PS4 's update is free.

No you don't. I work in film and you are not required to have consent in either UK or US. It is good practice to, but you don't explicitly need it.
You can face legal problems if you paint somebody in a bad light without any recourse, but they would first need to see the film and then complain.

They are two very different pools of gamers.
They do overlap somewhat, but there are masses of people on X1 and PS4 who wouldn't ever consider a Nintendo machine, however good it was, and plenty of Nintendo gamers who would rather give up gaming entirely than play anything else.

No way, however powerful a system the devs should be allowed to get the balance right. Give them the opportunity to give you twice the level of detail @30 if it suits the game.
Graphics can be far more complex if you stick to 30, and there is no benefit go 60 in certain genres.
