Rare have historically produced some great games. Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo & Kazooie, Perfect Dark. But Rare havent produced a classic for some time. Grabbed by the Ghoulies? wtf was that? I havent played Viva Pinata but i hear its v.good. But Perfect Dark Zero? I know it was a launch title but it was so bad looking.
Now Microsoft have Rare focused on making Nintendo style family games (they wish) whilst abandoning original games with an edge that appeal to mass...
at first I thought themes was a minor addition to the PS3, afterall it doesnt improve gameplay or anything. However i now think it is a really great feature as it allows customisation and makes your PS3 feel more unique, and they are free. I hate that with my 360 Elite you have to pay for everything. All these user created themes are fantastic. Just imagine what will be possible with LITTLE BIG PLANET!

Manufacturers will only want to be a part of a united brand if it benefits them.
Nintendo make money on actual consoles sold as well as software, so they would have no interest. Sony initially lose money on their consoles, but in the long term they make a profit by the end of the generation. Microsoft make a massive loss, but they are thinking LONG term, ie the Xbox didnt need to make a profit last-gen, this-gen,-but hopefully will do next-gen, as happened with Windows.

I don't believe that a PS3 wouldn't have backwards compatibility.
Sky News originally made this claim, and i think they got confused with the original PS3s that had the PS2 chipset built in which has since been removed.
The Euro PS3s & the new 80GB PS3s have BC that works via software. Improvements to this come via the firmware updates. This BC does not come from any hardware that can be removed to cut cost, ie it is free for Sony to implement in the PS3.

Also, how about Home? An open beta was promised for May 2007, and the full product in October... When they delayed the project they promised an open beta in November. There are still 3 days to fulfil this promise.
