Its pretty clear development was halted while they were working on ep.3. I doubt we will ever know what really happened, but at the time, the FPS genre was radically changing. Seems to me, HL was in danger of becoming stagnant and forgotten.
Source has been capable of a lot considering its age, but it could be they wanted to surpass what Source could do and shelved ep.3 to work on Source 2.
Regardless of what happened, timing is everything when it comes to r...
Valve has looked into it, and they have expanded trading "gift" games. but you can't play a "gift" game, only trade it.
How in the world would you even implement selling used digital games? There isn't a set depreciation, if Skyrim is anything to go by.
How would it end up being scammed? We all know people can hack just about anything.
Without any consideration for the potential problems, yes, I would love to to able to "sell" the games I don't play anymore. But few seem to really consider the harm it could cause.
Some kind of "store cr...
I believe one of the walls in my house is racist. So are candy corns and diapers.
They tried to integrate LIVE on PC and forgot they actually had to support it, so it failed and they pretty much gave up.
MS just need to stick with the XBOX and windows and leave PC gaming to those better able.
But hey, lets do it anyway! /s
I'm all for being able to trade used games, but all I hear is people arguing for the ability minus any real discussion on how it will be done.
There seems to be no real consideration for any problems that might arise as a result. Be careful what you wish for.
True. But I would caution people who think this is a good idea.
What victory?
In 2010 Valve was sued by the VZVB and the VZVB lost.
The CJEU said last year that selling "used" licenses is legal.
The VZVB just filed a new lawsuit in order to use the precedent.
That is all that happened. Valve responded to its customer complaints and decided to allow its customers to access the games they already bought if they choose to decline future changes to the EULA.

With the amount of money involved scores mean something. And, its not the gamers its the publishers that can the franchises for not getting an 8/10.
Why do people always hate on gamers for not buying games?
Did you just use the word "weenie"... Deliberately?
Disagree really? Why? I wasn't a huge fan of 4 either (story) and it certainly wasn't polished to perfection on PC day one. Took a patch or 2. (Which I expect so no biggie)
If you disagree with GTA being a safe franchise to poor money in you're an idiot. Gamers are going to day 1 the hell out of it no matter what.
Very much this ^^^
In addition, learning to build your own PC will help with quick troubleshooting down the road.
When you demystify the PC it becomes much less complex, so when you do encounter a problem you can fix it quickly and cheaply.
Pre-built PCs are way over-priced IMO.
I'll give Crytek credit, its nice to have CVar and the in game console.
Though I wonder why have a "configurator"? Editing the CVar files was pretty straight forward.
All this talk about rights and keep wondering where all the 2nd amendment defenders were when the Patriot Act was signed.
Government wasn't coming after your guns, it was too busy reading your email. Yay freedom!
How can it when the NRA does everything they can to gut the ability to enforce the regulations the vast majority are in favor of.
Currently in the US you can amass a massive arsenal legally and without anyone knowing about it. "Gun Control" hasn't worked because its never actually been tried.
I have to register to play a game but not to buy a weapon.
Wintersun616 wins!
Bubble for a good laugh.
Granted it isn't AAA, but it, in no way, looked "good".
Your point about "it being fun, so who cares?" is fine, except there was some pretty questionable mechanics in the video.
It looks like its trying to do too much. The more you try to do, means there will be more for people to examine. Example: Adding voice acting will lead to people examining it for flaws, and so on.
Whatever strengths it might have had will be ...
Let that be a lesson to all of you. MOHW was flawless, its you idiot consumers who are to blame. Next time, when EA says buy their game you better buy it, and love it. /s
What a dick.
Pretty much this ^
Pearl Harbor is kind of a bad example as it was an epic fail for the Japanese in hindsight.
But if you were to flip sides on a COD type shooter, it may not go over well. It would really depend on the context. It wouldn't be banned, but it might not sell well.
And your answer is wrong. HL3 will almost certainly be multiplat.
The "Steam-box" isn't going to be a traditional console. Valve is developing hardware that will allow people to access steam from anywhere in the home.
The "steam-box" is only one part of a larger venture. To make HL3 exclusive to "steam-box" would be the stupidest decision ever.
