In a game the resolution is not the same as a 2d image, where there would be substantial improvement. Shadows, textures, etc. are separate things that must be rendered in real time. Without 4k textures and shadows, crisp edges are about the only thing you will notice.
4k will be cool...someday. People seem to be missing this very obvious point. The new consoles aren't going to be able to achieve 4k res. This is fact. And even if by some miracle they could, you would have ...
Far as I am aware there are no 4k texture mods. Highest I've seen is 2.5k.
There is also the file size, which for 2k is about a 3 gig download.
Pricing will be a huge issue. More importantly is how they approach pricing from the start, IMO. Having to switch payment models down the line could kill it.
I personally prefer the GW2 model of paying up-front and for subsequent expansions plus a trading post. Its simple and straight forward. I'm willing to pay more than average retail price (60$) just to have access to everything and not have to refer to a complicated checklist to find out what I can and cannot do. Just...
Agreed. Especially on the location ideas.
Amazing? Sure. Relevant? Hardly.
Thing is, the improvement doesn't justify the cost.
Then there is the next gen consoles that have the largest market share in gaming. They aren't going to support this for the foreseeable future so its just not relevant.
This tech is a long way off. When you consider all the other improvements that could be made in gaming(physics, AI, etc.), it just won't be at all practical for a while. Especially considering the hardware required to run games at that res far exceeds the actual reward.
The next gen consoles aren't going to support this res so right away the majority of gamers aren't going to use it. The highest end PC's might but the cost to see it is far from justified. At t...
Fallout has to stay in the US just like STALKER and Metro MUST stay in Russia.
Its the satirical look at 50's America that makes Fallout what it is. Different timeline is fine, but the setting must be in the US.
@Silent
So have I. In after well over a decade of playing games on PC I'm used to bugs and glitches.
But, when Bethesda or anything related to them is mentioned whose the first to start losing it? It never fails, with in a couple posts the PS3 hive-mind unleashes hellfire.
Not sayin they don't have a reason just that its a pretty predictable occurrence.
The more I read about Valve's venture into the "living room" the more I am convinced that they aren't actually making a "console" in the traditional sense, like MS and Sony.
Seems to me they are doing several things instead of banking on a single piece of hardware. I don't think the actual Steambox is intended to compete with MS and Sony, instead its just part of a larger plan.
Valve also seems to be doing the same thing they d...
Ha Haaa
Teaser was intended for recruitment and for giving those familiar with the lore an idea of what the team plans.
Since its based on existing lore (of which I am not at all familiar with) they want to make sure its done right. "When its done" is actually referring to 2015, so its a long way off.
"was likely intended to spark controversy for the sake of generating internet buzz"
There's an actual hidden message from the team at CDPR explaining the reasoning behind the teaser. Why there is no gameplay, a window for release, etc.
But I wonder why you assume they did this to "spark" controversy. The Tomb Raider BS was a stretch but at least there was something controversial to latch on to.
The teaser was there to...
Same might be said about the ones who write these articles.
*sigh* Whatever.
So...okay...that's nice. Why should readers care?
Let me guess...PS3?
So you prefer MP games and didn't like FC3. So how is it "overrated"?
I get that you didn't like it, but that doesn't mean its overrated.
Read the hidden message that Roccetarius posted.
Absolution played pretty much like all the others in the series. Instinct mode, which I really thought was going to be terrible, was an improvement over the magical map of previous games. Not being able to customize your loadout or visit your hideout was really the only downer in terms of gameplay.
I can see some having an issue with the story. But if you think its radically different, in terms gameplay, from the previous titles then you need to take off the nostalgia goggles...
I think its premature to really judge what Valve is trying to do since we know so little.
That being said, people probably should not view this in "console" terms. Meaning that judging it on existing "console" business models is probably why people are getting confused.
The assumption that Valve isn't aware that 1000$ for an underpowered console running Linux would hardly compete with the next gen consoles, is kind of silly. Valve wasn...
