Not sure I like where this is heading, but I'll save the rage for when for when everyone's fears are actually a reality.
Kind of have to wait and see how this all works out.
@Summons75
I only disagree with the idea that this is some sort of competition.
Sony will ultimately push VR to the "mainstream" as it will target a more mainstream audience. The Oculus will advance regardless of what Sony does, but VR in general depends on the console audience to become seriously viable to the games industry as a whole.
So really they can't seriously compete until they've proven the tech. Until then they wi...
Personally, I'd take a headset over brain surgery or a self induced coma. Besides, I've seen way too much sci-fi to ever think those were good ideas.
@SteamPowered
But if Sony fails, VR fails. Simple as that. VR will be PC only and won't advance as quickly.
IMO Sony needs to not try and keep the price low to start. Instead produce something amazing and let the prices fall over time. Get those few console gamers that get one at first talking about how amazing it is and slowly build up from there.
If they try for the quick buck Sony kills mainstream VR. Its all on their shoulders now. <...
I think you just won this comments section.
If only they were smart enough to release a "beta version" or something. You know, something the community could mess around with or identify flaws before they release it to the public.
I think its real funny that everyone is taking ONE guys opinion as absolute fact.
Back when GFWL was announced and support for the PC was less visible, wanted MS to bring some of its exclusives over to the PC. But its honestly too late.
I actually respect MS a lot for giving up on GFWL instead of shoving it down our throats while being in complete denial.
These days I could live without MS exclusives. They can support the PC in other ways but the golden era of MS PC games has long since passed.
No they weren't heavily populated, but they were big and spread out. It really depended on the location. Our server had a town right next the Krayt Canyon (high level spawn area) which had a lot of traffic. Also when you set up a vendor people had to go to it to buy stuff. So you visited towns quite frequently. SWG didn't jam a whole bunch of people into one space.
There were limitations back then, but player towns were visited quite often. And a merchants popularity ...
Okay CDPR, that's enough! You my first born too?! Fine take him, I could use the break anyway:P
Its a nice addition, but SWG still did this better. Sure, it didn't look as good (being over ten years old) but you were free to put your house nearly anywhere on planet and could decorate it any way you like. Same went for the ships.
For all its faults (and it had many) SWG was way ahead of its time. I would have taken SWG 2 over fully voiced dialog in a heartbeat. Just bugs me that a game with a fraction of the budget and over ten years old had far superior mechanics t...
They are not in direct competition anymore than the platforms are.
They aren't competing for the same audiences.
What choice does a PS4 gamer have between a Rift and Sony's VR? None.
Same goes for a PC gamer. I literally have ZERO interest in what Sony puts out (outside any thing that has a wider impact on gaming).
Ultimately the decision to buy won't be based on which is better, but which system you have or wh...
So let's say you're right and the undercut the DK2 (which is not the retail release), how exactly would that help if I want VR for PC games?
Its one thing if you are competing for the same audience, but separate audiences is another.
In the end Sony has free reign to charge whatever they want on their own system. I mean Sony could release their tomorrow at $100 and it really wouldn't change anything for someone like me who doesn't own a PS4. ...
don't hold your breath, its probably not going to a huge change from the TW2.
I mean, if you didn't like TW2's gameplay "at all" don't expect much. It will change, and IMO will be better than TW2 (which I liked), but I just don't think it will change someone's mind, who didn't like it to begin with.
They did, and then gave up. AOE got shut down and then there's Flight Simulator.
I just don't think they have what it takes to really enter the PC gaming arena anymore. The last few years have been MS saying it really wants to support PC gaming in various ways followed, in a few months, by their apology for not doing that.
I honestly think it comes from the fact that Windows has no competitors really. Nothing has been there to energize them to innovat...
1. GFWL was terrible. It wasn't wasn't just marketing that tied your saves to crap software whose only purpose seemed to be providing barriers to playing a game you legally purchased.
2. Steam actually evolved, GFWL's only evolution was the realization that PC gamers weren't going to pay a premium for MP. Of all the DD platforms, GFWL was by far the worst.
I won't deny MS's contribution to PC gaming, but they should just stick to Win...
Just Cause 2 is is probably the biggest modern open world game.
I forget the top 5 biggest, but I know JC2 is in that list. Daggerfall is bigger technically.
Frankly, when it comes to these games, I prefer they focus on one or the other. SP games aren't going away, so instead of some half-assed campaign jammed in just for the sake of it, focus on the core of the game. If its multiplayer then don't waste time with singleplayer.
Same goes for SP games that force MP when its not needed.
Granted there are games that can have both, but I am talking about the games that are clearly MP or SP focused.
$300 to $500 and I'm good. Above that and it will require a bit more salesmanship.
Pretty sure he said that he wasn't including Dark Souls in his rant.
At least be fair before legions of fanboys run to the defense of Dark Souls, having not watched the video.
Unless Sony is thinking of releasing their headset on PC, they really don't have a market advantage. The Rift also hasn't disappeared yet.
But nothing changes the fact that, while hardly the greatest news, the Rift just got a HUGE influx of cash backing it.
Sony still has plenty of challenges to overcome before they actually are in a position to have this "advantage" that everyone assumes they will get.
I'm sure that V...
