So you would be saving some money AND the dev would at least get some money out of the transaction? Who'd a thunk that was possible? :)
Because then there'd be yet another GameStop-like company that would rise, with the goal of getting bought out...
If they truly WERE "Collectors Editions" (IE limited run, never to be reissued), then the release price could very well be the cheapest you could find it. If they overestimate the demand, or keep reissuing it, THAT'S when you see the big drops in price.
Even if the statue is made out of "cheap plastic", much of the expense COULD be due to the paint job, which might be hand-painted (I don't believe you can mold much color into PVC statues). For example, painted plastic D&D miniatures cost about $6 apiece, and the paint jobs are quite poor - not to mention having less than 5% the surface area.
And hardcover PHOTO books are quite a bit more expensive to produce than hardcover novels - especially in limited editions. So $30 is likely a better estimate, based on some books I found on Amazon, such as this: http://www.amazon.com/Thor-...

99.9% of games today load all texture data into video card memory (or shared system RAM) at load time, so in that case, you will only see a slower load time. Carmack talked about extensive use of caches, due to the fact that Rage has too much texture data to fit in memory like that. So, if you have the game installed to HD, that texture data is streamed in from a pretty fast source at all times. If you choose not to install from HD, then you will see textures streami...
This is why they asked that no filming be done. When you try to film off the screen, in a dark hall, it is GOING to look washed out - at least if you use automatic settings on the camera. The camera not only had trouble with the exposure (in part because the cameraman did not zoom in on the screen and thus had a lot of the dark hall in the image), but also with the focus (look at the text of the menus). I can't wait to see the HD version they said they were going to put out.
Actually it is pretty common advice. However, it depends on the mother, the history of the pregnancy, and the strength and timing of the contractions.
At the keynote, Carmack said that Bethesda did some market research and determined that the game would get more respect and sell better if it was M rated.
This is actually what it looked like when playing the game on the 360's they have at QuakeCon.

When I first read that paragraph:
"But a lack of oxygen had left her brain dead. The following day her family, of Bridport, Dorset, made the heart-breaking decision to switch the machine off."
I, too, initially thought they were talking about the Xbox. I had to read the paragraph a couple of times before it registered.
I guess that says something about us...
Actually, according to the article, the writer COULD care less... If the game were not made by id and didn't have interesting technology, he WOULD have cared less. As it stands right now, he at least cares a little.
Remember back when "Made in Japan" meant "cheap" to many Americans? Now, Japanese automobiles and electronics tend to be more reliable. The same may likely be/become true of Korean products.
While it is true that gaming spending drops every summer, the article talks about a 20+% drop over the SAME PERIOD LAST YEAR.

id Tech 5 on consoles, perhaps Frostbite 2 on PC.
Also, if you zoom in on the face, it appears to have a much higher triangle count than you would see in the standard game-play of a shipping game - at least on a console. So this is either a cinematic model intended for an in-engine cut-scene, or they are using automated tessellation with a high-end PC GPU and/or slow render mode.
More like, "they are fighters looking for some freedoms to use as an excuse for their pleasures".
What WAS the "slip of the tongue"? Based on what was actually said, it could fuel speculation as to whether he meant to say it, what is in the game, when it might release, etc. By not giving any actual words and context, we have nothing.
How about, "Due to a slip of the tongue, President Obama confirmed the US would go to war against China."
Actually, some of the side quests are locked if you buy used, not the entire single player game...
