When a developer ships a game on a console, he must pay the console manufacturer a fee for each copy. When he ships on Steam, he must pay a fee to Valve for each copy. I have no idea as to the difference between the fees, but do know the cost of the disc and packaging is pretty small compared to the full cost of the game.

Unless this was pre-arranged, I could see Bethesda delaying shipments of future games to this retailer.

The DVD drive is probably fast enough to load all the other stuff when you play (in parallel to the texture loading). The Blu-ray is somewhat slower, so installing everything there is faster. Even so, I'd rather install the entire game on whichever console I get it on, not only for faster loading times, but also so I don't have to listen to my 360's leaf-blower DVD drive...

It's also possible that Microsoft limits the maximum size that can be installed to HD, ...

While the article has a point about a negative reputation affecting your ability to interact with the good people of the world, the whole point of the DARK Brotherhood is to do the killing in secret - in which case it should not affect your reputation if you don't screw up, I would presume.

Or the day one patch went gold a few days back.

I saw Rage listed on Amazon as a Bethesda game, so perhaps this is just Karma?

For me, Fallout (Xbox) had lots of bugs, some fairly serious (like falling through the world when you have multiple DLC installed). New Vegas (PS3) had some silly-looking animation glitches, but only one bug that made me load a savegame (robot blocking me into a hut).

Having said that, I learned long ago to save early and save often, and there was a work-around published for the DLC issue, so none of this really bothered me.

Starfox811 said, "Perhaps Tom Chick should have also mentioned that it wasn't really his cup of tea and that many others will enjoy it more than himself."

Perhaps every reviewer that rates a game a 9 or 10 should also qualify their score, stating, "This game really may not be your cup of tea, and many others will enjoy it less than I did."

Reviews would get pretty boring if they all did that.

Blackdeath, you should turn some tricks tonight to get cash for the game.

The soldier is a fan of Fallout 3: New Vegas.

@OrbMalmot

You DO realize that a significant portion (more than this Catwoman stuff) of Battlefield 3 is locked away from a "non neglectable" portion of their consumer base, don't you? Namely all the online multiplayer stuff? Do you plan to boycott every game that has a "online connection required" notice on the back of the box for certain features (something like 90% of all games)?

Seems I only needed to read one more comment to see my sentiments, before I made my contribution!

I can afford to buy them all new, because I wait to buy them when they are under $20. That way, I not only get to experience all the finest, but I still support the devs with some of the profit - rather than GameStop making all the money.

As proof that PCs make more profit, Shadowwaste links an EA financial report that shows each console's net profits higher than PC, and a projection that PC profits will EVENTUALLY overtake consoles...

Is that Kevin Butler claiming PC is better than consoles?! ;)

Good post, Morganfell.

I have a feeling it may have more to do with the FOV than any texture pop-in. The game gives me a bit of an issue, as well, but I'm either getting used to it, or I had more light on when i played last night.

I think the reviewer didn't pass elementary math. How do you give a game an "overall" of 5.0 when the various components of the score are all higher than 5.0, but one?

Nope, the good ol' days were playing Space War on an oscilloscope!
