Nothing about the rumor makes sense.
1) A Vita is already kind of large (longer than the XL already!) and a larger model would start to border on the counter productive. It would make keeping the Vita in your pocket extremely difficult / kill the portable concept altogether.

Unfortunately we live in a shoot first and ask questions later society. Contrary to the past, where you would have an indefinite amount of time to verify / contact / track down sources... we have a lot of people posting one thing, someone posting this unverified information on one site and everyone following suit because they want views. Furthermore... very few people actually review the reviewer ...

The main difference is that no one is really making a profit off the pirates, where as bootleggers are stealing money that Square could have made off selling similar figures.
Think of it like this... bootlegging would be selling an illegally made copy of a DVD and making like $3 dollars on it. Not only are the companies losing the purchase, but someone else is directly profiting off their work for minimal / no effort. ...

I love how they say Rockman was a special case, yet people keep pitching third party characters. If anything Sony has a chance, but Shadow would be weird to have on his own. Would be like if they put Luigi in, but left Mario out.
Being an exclusive / published by M$ doesn't mean they're owned by M$. I am pretty sure The Behemoth owns BattleBlock Theater and even then the Castle Crasher would have a more interesting move set / more iconic for M$.
Additionally. Simply owning a game doesn't instantly mean the game can use the characters (Capcom had to ask permission to use each and every character in their cross over fighting games and Sony said the same thing. Logic stands that Nintendo also...
Cross-over fighters didn't start and end with Super Smash Brothers... so I don't see the problem.
Before SSB we had King of Fighters (believe it or not, this IS a CO fighter), Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Pocket Fighter, Fighters Megamix and several games had cross over fighters in the past too.
They just have to simply make it different than SSB and we all win.
4 regular and 1 DLC is a bunch now? The game also only launched with 1 game with 2 characters, which was good and evil Cole. DLC added Zeus as a second, but that was it.

The problem is that you're talking about 2 sets of largely similar fighters, which would probably work better as alternate costumes. Maybe two sides for Halo, but it would be boring having a bunch of fighters using guns.

M$ doesn't have enough diversity or exclusives to really make this shine. They could put in a couple Halo guys, Gears of War guys, a car from Forza (Sega used a car in their fighting game, why not M$?), maybe Alan Wake, but beyond this we're looking at a lot of distance fighters and third party add ons....

They actually do it all the time. A lot of people watch Collectors Editions to become used, since GameStop policy is to trash the CE contents, but some places will give / steal the contents for themselves. The one difference is that they jacked up the prices and make almost twice as much on a used copy than new. Either or, it will result in lower prices down the road.

This game wouldn't be selling for 100+ on eBay if they had unsold copies and GameStop regularly converts new games to used. This happens a LOT to collectors editions, which typically have the items thrown out, but sometimes people will get lucky. Like recently Gears of War 3 went CTU and you could get the Epic edition for $13 dollars.

Polygon has had some iffy / incorrect news recently... so I am not holding my breathe. At most this is only true for now and we will probably see it down the road like most / all ARC releases.
Why in the world would anyone care about sound capabilities?
This is one of the very few things that can be "fixed" with add ons and is honestly a double edge sword. Like I doubt anyone wants to blast the volume so everyone in the car can hear you slicing and dicing enemies and a lot of people end up playing these muted / with headphones on the go.
So you think that Sony would not only announced a PS4 / Vita bundle, but increase a better version of the system with it? All this would do is anger current buyers, turn people off buying the old system, them taking a loss on this bundle and would bring into question why they didn't just scrap CURRENT stock as a bundled model and send out the new model to replace the old ones they scraped.
