"even though a dev recently said that these predictions could affect sales of titles"

It can, but at the same time I would argue it doesn't matter. People are going to assume games may go free with Plus regardless of what articles say and it assumes that any coverage in such a way is to the games detriment. One thing I noted with DOGOS is that many people seemed to have no clue what it was and only saw it because it was featured in a popular article. Who knows...

They didn't stop them from giving away Trine 2 and a number of other games.

They likely can't turn a profit off the system alone at that price.

Pro is $400, half is $200, slim is $300, so they'd need to essentially sell the system for no less than $200 to turn a profit, but can't charge too close to $300 to lose out to people just buying new.

So, to offset the high price/low profit margin, they're asking for games assuming two things will happen. Some people will turn in a lot of low value games (Destiny, The Di...

"that is how trade works"

In theory, but not in practice. A lot of companies don't price things based off sales/deals/so forth, making it quite easy to turn a profit. A good example was the TIV for Mario Kart 8 not being impacted by the Club Nintendo promotion, where as most informed consumers weren't willing to pay anywhere near as much.

It makes more sense if you actively do it, but there are plenty of sales/promos/deals where you ca...

Depends. Promos like this they typically don't, but guaranteed XYZ or bonus credit for games that trade in for ABC tend to get it.

"N4G should really just adopt a reddit-style comments section."

I personally wish less sites would use a +/- or like/dislike system. The issue for me is how quickly you can make someone dislike something and how well thought out comments can be shit on because people don't care for the subject matter.

Like I recently had a -7 or something post on the Destiny Reddit because I explained why I liked the change to snipers that made it so knight...

"So because some people are getting a deal and others are being completely left out in the cold, best buy Is somehow just not responsible for anything? That's the vibe in getting from your post. "

They admitted it was a mistake and cancelled orders. What more do you expect?

The article was written yesterday... "

"the real problem here that they altered the orders with out first sending out emails apologizing for the emistake and telling customers about the alteration of the order..."

The real problem is actually someone rushing to write an article. According to the topic linked in the actual article, it seems that orders were cancelled later that day and a social media specialist gave an apology and explained the situation on the official forum.

"First line:
"When consumers see or hear an advertisement, whether it’s on the Internet, radio or television, or anywhere else, federal law says that ad must be truthful, not misleading, and, when appropriate, backed by scientific evidence." "

But it isn't an advertisement. They weren't promoting it via ad, radio or television, it was just listed incorrectly and then corrected. Now some places will still honor incorrectly tagged items, ...

@ GenMasterB and AdonisIsBeast

It's important to understand that this "article" was written fast, was never updated and makes a lot of incorrect assumptions. Just reading posts it seems orders were cancelled ( http://slickdeals.net/f/909... ), there was a formal apology post...

"Im one of the people that got screwed. "

I'm curious, how exactly did you get screwed?

No one has actually got their order from Best Buy, so it's not like you can confirm you didn't get you headset.
Even if they do ship it out you can always return it, sure it is inconvenient, but it's an option. It isn't like Best Buy is taking your money and going nope.

From there, the article itself makes a l...

Honestly, the Vita only really had two issues, one of which Nintendo avoided and clearly won't do.

When push comes to shove, what killed the Vita was proprietary memory cards. No one wanted to pay $250 (I believe was the launch price), plus at least $20, just to use it. When Sony tried to fix this they, ironically, made it worse. All the Plus games did was put greater emphasis on this need. You pretty much had to spend MSRP and then buy decent storage (I recall 16 being...

" sony still does their regular maintenance. so why make it front page news do you want clicks or do you wanna fuel fanboys"

Because it is unannounced maintenance and people having network issues are surely going to look into what is going on.

"you can still play"

That actually might not be true. I have my PSN account on two systems, with the one I predominately use being the sub (due to all the restrictions not really impacting me) and due to the I lose access to ALL my games during this stuff. So anything I've bought, got from Plus or whatever will NOT work until I can sign onto my account and will only work for like 15 minutes offline or never if I don't boot up my PS4 online.

Almost every MMORPG is like this. I certainly saw this with ESO.

If you play it normally you're looking at a fairly substantial grind to hit the cap. You could easily spend 30 hours just running around doing quests and other minor things. Even with the dungeon scaling and such, the experience is different when you're level 10 playing with other level 10s, since you gain more skills, abilities, perks, armor and so forth.

The funny thing is that yo...

What is the point of doing an expectation versus reality article if you haven't played the game and don't really touch on the actual expectations/reality issue? Like indie game, Sony possibly giving it too much hype and so forth aside, that doesn't excuse things like how pointless getting to the center of the universe is and the end of the atlas mission.

"If you go to the cinema to watch a movie and you don’t like it, you don’t get a refund. "

Uh, I think the point is less about delaying giving us a better game and more about the practice of announcing as quickly as possible to build up hype. A good example being The Last Guardian, which was announced and expected to release five years prior to its current release date. Despite this, practically anyone on N4G could attest to the fact that almost every announcement, big event or thing of the like would have additional details on this game.

Furthermore, the idea th...

"the destiny exclusivity stuff is on an entirely different level. "

Honestly, where are we really drawing lines in the sand? Like it might be over the top next to CoD, but CoD is also a completely different animal. Let me put it like this to maybe change peoples perspective who write off that "one month." Please note, I don't agree with it, but I am saying this so some people will realize one really isn't worse than another.

You could make a case that, in a small way, it does hurt PlayStation players.

One of the biggest complaints I recall in Y1 was how exclusive content was out of the rotation for events or event like things. This meant that the only way to get a Hawkmoon/Monte was via drop, you could never get a Dust Palace weekly Nightfall, events never took place on Exodus Blue and so forth. Year 2 brings similar woes, though this stuff is pretty minor.

Though, overall, ...

I think the answer lies in a similar game I'm surprised you didn't reference, Destiny.

No matter what anyone anywhere says about Destiny, it is a game that people still enjoy and get excited for expansions. While the core problems still remain, it remains an enjoyable game that is really just disappointing/underwhelming.

Despite never playing No Man's Sky, I can't say the same is true regarding what I've read. Like getting to the cen...
