I get where you're coming from, but I would think that it would be better in the slightly longer term to ensure that a format can last more than just a few years. The need for data storage tends to grow exponentially - if you bought a computer say 5 years ago you probably got a 20-40gig HDD which by now is considered rather small.
The jump from DVD to BRD isn't all that different, percentage wise, from the jump from CD to DVD.
I think that with the advent of HD ...
I'm right there with you on being a demanding gamer. For me it comes down to having a finite amount of time and budget I can dedicate to gaming and I don't want to waste any of it on something that I'm not really going to enjoy.
If I had a lot more time and money to dedicate then I would probably play more games in general and certainly not all of them could be of the highest caliber. I certainly wouldn't mind this scenario, but alas...
Maybe this is still being overly critical of what was probably an Alpha build at best, but after what they showed at E3 this year I went from having this on my buy list to having it on my wait-for-reviews list.
Don't get me wrong, I hope it rocks. The concept is cool, the setting is cool, it's got a cool art style - I just hope it all comes together and we all have another sweet game to play.
While I agree that at the moment most games that are currently out on the market for the PS3 probably could have been made to fit on a DVD9, what about titles that are going to come in 1, 2, or 3 years from now. I think Sony is trying to give developers a platform they can grow into. I don't think it's a stretch to say that games coming on the PS3 in even the next 6 months or so like Killzone 2 or MGS4 would be likely very hard to fit on a DVD9 even with as much compression as they could thro...
So I'm not allowed an opinion if you don't agree with it?
If a Zune cost a dollar what would be the economical upside of purchasing one if you didn't want it? If a Zune cost $300 and I went into a store where they were $1 I would buy every single one and sell them on eBay. But if they cost $1 every where, and I didn't want it for any reason at all why would I buy it? Wouldn't it be better to save that dollar for something I did want? You're assuming that I have a need for a por...
I really liked the multiplayer in CoD2. Bumping the plater cap from 8 to 16 might have been nice, but I thought it was really easy to pick up and play and had a nice variety of maps and game modes.
I didn't even bother with CoD3 as Infinity Ward didn't make it and reviews were generally not so great - looked like a step back from 2.
Anyway, I think CoD4 is looking HOTT. That's right, two Ts!
They could drop the price to $1 and I still wouldn't want it. It's big, ugly and the control wheel thingey is awful.
I thought the PS2 was closer to 125 million - whatever, it's a crap-ton either way.
The other day a coworker told me he was thinking of getting his first gaming console for him and his wife (they are PC gamers - lot's of WoW). I told him to get a PS2 - they're cheap, there are tons of great games pretty much all of which are <$20 - you can't go wrong with a PS2 if you're getting into console gaming.
I know for most folks on here the PS2 is probably getting lon...
A lot of conflicting info on this one. Would be nice to get some official word from the developers.
She doesn't look all that different - the angles and lighting are totally not conducive to a comparison. Looks like she got some highlights - must have been a slow news day for Games Radar and Kotaku, that "new" screen came out a whiiiiile ago.
Oh the comparison videos... anyone for a ban? :)
I got a chance to play around with the 360 and I gotta say I really like what they are doing with the controls - check it out if you can, it's sorta hard to explain on the internets.
If I had to guess why this is true I would say that while there are more than a few games to choose from right now on the 360 there's basically nothing other than Metroid on the Wii. Also Bioshock is a very M title and Metroid isn't, giving a broader potential audience (tens of thousands of kids who are finally tired of Wii Sports).
I love firmware updates. I just wish they would release them simultaneously on the download website. I prefer to download them to my computer then put them on the PS3 via thumb-drive. It's a lot faster (doesn't tie up the PS3 for so long) except that I have to wait to download it.
Thanks, that makes sense. I hope Sony gets a lot more servers going - maybe some unranked ones as well. It's great to see that the game is off to a good start, but I think more servers will make everyone happy. The lobby works pretty well though and we didn't have much trouble getting on some other folks' servers and playing right away.
When I was on last it certainly seemed like they could use more central servers - they were pretty packed.
Anyone else notice that seemingly none of the Sony servers allow for split screen? We had 4 player going over here and we couldn't play on any of the Sony servers which was a slight bummer.
I don't think they'll announce anything before Uncharted is released - that's just bad marketing.
I hold my controller a little unconventionally for Tiger Woods Golf so I can hit more accurately and get more boost when I need it. It just won't work with the 360 controller.
Gonna play it after work! w00t!
I'm really looking forward to Mass Effect - more so than Halo 3. But I don't think there's any way it's going to match Halo in sales.
You know you can play video games on the iPod right?
