From now on, whenever I see pics of Pachter, he'll be Sylvio Browne to me.
Thanks for that, lol!
It's lost marketshare in the browser and office productivity suite markets, nonetheless. As I said above, the majority of those Windows 7 license sales have been to businesses, not end consumers. The consumer PC market has been slowing down for years. Fewer end consumers buying computers means fewer copies of MS operating systems in people's homes.
With the growing emphasis on portable computing - using smartphones, etc. - people are moving away from the MS-dominated ...
@Mindedone: My story's the same. I used Vista, though I didn't have many problems with incompatibility. My biggest irritant with was how long it took to move files from the HDD to USB, and vice-versa.
I bought a laptop pre-loaded with Windows 7 this past spring, and I've really enjoyed the OS so far. It's definitely improved upon the Vista framework.
The danger for MS comes from the amount of ground it has given up in some of its traditionally strong software userbases, though. Yes, Windows 7 has been the most successful of its operating systems, but the majority of those licenses have been sold to businesses, and not to consumers.
Consumers have gotten used to the idea of having non-Microsoft options for software. Web browsers and office productivity suites - two areas that Microsoft used to dominate - are much more open...
If I didn't already own a Wii, I'd have definitely purchased the red one.
The numbers this holiday season should be pretty interesting, with Kinect and Move in the mix, and the possibility of a pre-Christmas GT5 release.
I still think it's likely Wii will dominate.
Good to know. I'm a 'Star Wars' fan, and I'm looking forward to picking this up.
Word-of-mouth is going to be the most important advertising for Kinect, I think. Once people get to experience it in their homes, that's what will make or break it. Celebrity endorsements and marketing budgets can only go so far.
That's why I'm looking forward to the reviews from people who have used it in their homes, rather than in controlled environments.
I thought the same thing at first. Strange that they'd use that title, considering.
It's about time. I'm interested in seeing what they'll have in their storefront.
With those amazing psychic powers of yours, you should consider opening a hotline.
Why not wait until January, 2011 to get the holiday figures, instead of pulling predictions out of your backside?
The Reaver from the 'Legacy of Kain' series, especially in its Soul Reaver form, is my top pick.
A lot of Americans died defending Canada? Are you talking about either of the World Wars, or the current 'War on Terror?'
Many Canadians have died in both World Wars, which, in both cases, Canada entered long before the United States. Some Canadians chose to serve in Vietnam. And as for the War on Terror, Canadians have died in Afghanistan as part of the NATO forces. Canadians have died to preserve and defend peace when called upon as well. We share a continent. We d...
Sony's gaming strengths plus Apple's strong brands and marketing savvy?
The ones going ape$hit would be the Xbox fanboys. It would spell the end for MS's gaming division, given the pressure that division already faces from shareholders.
That would be fun to see, now that you mention it.
Sometimes it seems devs are abandoning the Single-Player experience in favour of online multiplayer. I've seen reviews penalizing games for not having multiplayer online, even if that doesn't add to the game experience.
Epic single-player games, ftw!
According to an obviously-upset XBox fanboy? Yes.
According to Sony's initial sales projections? No.
According to people who aren't in the kindergarten sandbox you fanboys dwell in? No.
Accept it. Both Kinect and Move will sell well. They CAN coexist, and they will. This "one or other" mentality is childish. Though thanks for the laugh all the same.
Why shouldn't Playstation fans comment on an article about a peripheral for their console? It's the Kinect fanboys who don't really have any reason to post here. But I suppose you won't call that side of the aisle out. That would be too logical.
I don't understand this obsession with monthly sales figures. Do you get a thrill when your console of choice sells more than the others? Does your pulse race when the competitors' consoles are lower on the lis...
You can't really compare Kinect to the Wii, however, since Microsoft lacks the strong stable of recognizable, family-friendly characters that Nintendo has. The Wii wouldn't have been as successful without Mario, Zelda, etc.
Kinect is going to have strong initial sales. That's a given. How long-term those sales gains will be, and whether or not the Kinect software library catches on with Kinect's target audience, are questions we won't be able to answer unt...
From what the interview says, Brink may give people who are curious about online play the chance to try it out without some of the difficulties associated with it. Online play seems pretty intimidating. I prefer single-player, myself.
There's a sort of tribalism in gaming culture now, and that's given rise to this penchant for labeling people. The truth is, gamers can't be pigeon holed. I game on many different platforms, play games from E to M ratings, and invest a nice chunk of time and money into this hobby. But in no way am I better, or worse, than any other gamer.
The problem this generation seems to be the gamers who decided to pick teams instead of focus on the broad spectrum that is gam...
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is the only remake I'd really like to see.
