Wondering where the time went

It all comes down to personal gaming preferences. I don't play MP online console games, so Sony isn't 'forcing' me to do anything to enjoy my console. If you're someone for whom online MP is important, then you need to make the best decision for you.

It's a shame that Plus is now mandatory for those who want to play MP online with PS4, and if that's a deal-breaker for you, then all the best. Hope you find another hobby to enjoy.

The graphic quality is amazing, but what really makes that tech demo so great are the writing and the performances. Fantastic.

For the most part, I prefer to play male protagonists, depending on the genre. My 'Skyrim' character is a male Nord, for example. Not because I hate my gender, but because it makes more sense to me, given Tamriel's high fantasy setting, to play a male. I don't play games to project myself into the story. I experience the story crafted for those characters no matter what gender they are.

And there's something to be said for pure escapism. I play video game...

I'm really looking forward to this. It's refreshing to see steampunk elements used in an action game, and for pre-production stage footage, it looked quite good.

Sony's approach is different in that the PS4 console itself doesn't require daily authentication logins or even internet connectivity. The XB1 has DRM enforcement as part of its architecture.

Because of that fundamental difference, Sony didn't lie when they said that they would not enforce DRM restrictions. If third-party pubs decide to, that's up to them.

I've enjoyed FF's various battle systems over the years, and I'm sure I'll adjust to whatever changes FFV makes to the battle mechanics.

I'm a Sony fan. I'm right here, and 3rd party games multiplatform won't bother me in the slightest. I'll still be able to play them on PS4. Others will get to play them on XB1. The 3rd party devs and publishers get money, so it's a win-win.

Just as XB1 fans will get to enjoy 'KH' if they haven't played the series before, I'll get to enjoy 'The Witcher 3.' In the end, it all works out.

Edit: Wasn't MS the one wh...

I can't see how this is a problem. 'KH' has been multi-platform for years on handheld consoles. If S-E feels they can make additional $$ by releasing on XB1, good for them.

Will the game sell as well on MS' console? I doubt it. But in the end, it doesn't matter. What matters most is that 'KH3' and 'FFVX' are coming.

Since I don't play online MP in consoles, having it behind a paywall is better value for me, since I won't end up paying for something I won't use. And who knows? The paid online MP model may help Sony provide a better online experience.

The hypocrisy found in vehement defenders of consoles is hilarious. Seeing those that complained about MS charging for online MP now supporting Sony's approach is funny. So is reading the posts from people who mocked the PS3 ...

Agreed. The first 3/4s of the conference droned on like that one relative who attends Christmas Dinner and keeps bringing up the same things year after year.

The last 20 minutes or so was fantastic for gamers looking for an alternative to MS' approach.

Just pre-ordered from amazon.ca.

Though I found the conference bland, Jack made up for it at the end. The PS4's lack of restrictive DRM, the fact that it doesn't require an internet connection/verification or camera, and a consumer-friendly used game policy all at $399 is amazing. Since I have a Vita, I'm looking forward to the cross-play.

And with the Instant Game Collection, I think it's time I took advantage of PS+. I don't play online ...

I didn't see anything compelling enough for me to forget its draconian DRM/used games policies. It's TV features and Kinect integration are useless to me, and, given recent revelations about project PRISM, I'm not comfortable with giving anyone seeing eye access to my living room.

Multiplayer?

No, thanks.

From what I understand, the XB1 needs to run a connection check once every 24 hours. If you don't have your XB1 online and the time runs out, you won't be able to play the games on XB1 until you re-establish the connection.

The other functionality - watching TV and Blu-Ray, will still be possible during that time, but you won't be able to game again until your XB1 'checks in' via the Internet.

I can't wait for this.

That's a shame. It reminds me of the common practice movie studios have of not giving the press a screening of a film before release. :(

I'm curious as to how the JRPG situation plays out in the coming gen. 'Tales' on PS3 is always music to my ears.

Sony execs might have learned a lesson from the start of this generation about the perception of "corporate arrogance." Or, they may simply not feel the need to squawk about their console until E3. Who knows? They may have megaton-level surprises at their conference, and they may feel confident enough about E3 to wait and let their presser do the talking for them.

Only a few more days until we know the answer.

@Elite Unfortunately, the always-connected Internet requirement will not serve those gamers who don't have robust Internet connections. And the mandatory Kinect is a problem for me since my physical disability prevents me from using full body motion controls, and I don't need voice-control to change channels.

MS brings new things to the table, but so does Sony. The PS4 will have digital media capabilities, digital content delivery, and media sharing functions, which...
