Free games are great regardless. Besides, there are new players buying consoles every month, people who may just now be getting into gaming. Programs like these give them access to titles they missed - and that's a good thing.
It's a good move on MS' part.
I can't think of one. I just think that, since Kinect 2.0 was one of the pillars of the XB1's 'identity,' MS would be wary to remove it.
Hypothetically, if they did, there could be a backlash against the XB1 becoming 360 version 2.0. The PS4 has been criticized for being nothing more than PS3 2.0, so it's possible MS could get similar heat for removing the Kinect requirement.
I doubt this is true. Kinect's functionality is an integral part of the XB1's multimedia experience as well as its games.
Lol, no. That's like saying you're not a 'hardcore' gamer if you only own platforms from one generation.
Edit: How the tides have turned. In 2007, when I bought my PS3, the EB Games in my town kept haranguing me to get a 360 every time I walked in there. The manager told me I'd get one eventually. She was wrong.
The current generation is not the next generation, however. The PS4 is easier to develop for than PS3. The coming console gen isn't going to be a repeat of the PS3/360 situation. For one thing, Sony is in a much more advantageous position this time around, with hardware that is cheaper and easy to develop for.
Do you have a source for your statement that multi-plats are being optimized for XB1? Forbes posted a story stating the opposite, in fact. 4628d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment
Sorry, Nintendo won the PS3/360 gen with the Wii.
And let me get this straight. You call the PS3 a Blu-Ray player whose owners buy less games. By that logic, isn't XB1 just a cable box with a mandatory motion camera?
@Xiren187
Not everyone has the money to get both consoles, so they have to choose the one which best suits their preferences. Am I less of a gamer because I can only choose one of the consoles, even though I've been playing, and collecting, video games since Pong was first released?
Of course not.
Gamers buy the consoles they want and enjoy them. This elitist argument that you can't consider yourself a gamer unless you do X, Y, or Z i...
I'm sure I'm not the only female gamer looking forward to this. And I won't be playing it under a blanket. ;)
I'm the same way, but my preferences are reversed. I haven't seen any exclusive games from MS that make the XB1 worth a purchase from me. Sony showed games that I really want to play. I enjoy platformers, like Knack, indie titles, and the 'Rain' game they mentioned looks intriguing. And both XB1 and PS4 will get various multi-plats.
Since I have a Vita, I think I'll subscribe to PS+, too.
In the end, people should base their purchases on t...
Untrue. N4G was very pro-MS, anti-Sony at the beginning of the current gen. The tables have simply turned recently.
Exactly. MS changed the policy because of retail pressures. They saw the strength of PS4 pre-orders and shifted course in an attempt to gain greater consumer interest and confidence.
There's no point pushing a product consumers don't want. I'm sure that's why Sony took the position on used games/DRM @ E3. It has nothing to do with championing the consumer, and everything to do with potential profits and market share.
Of course the price difference matters. We saw the impact of higher price at the start of the PS3/360/Wii generation. The general public is apt to get 'sticker shock' when looking at console prices. When PS3 launched, it didn't matter that it came with a Blu-Ray drive built-in, or built in wireless, etc. It was $599. The 360 wasn't, and neither was the Wii.
We, as gamers, may make decisions based on the concept of added value, but it would be foolish to assume...
@SixZeroFour - I've been physically disabled since birth. I cannot stand or walk unaided, and I must use a wheelchair outside of my home. And since my disabilities are permanent, that's not going to change. It's also why I never bought a Wii balance board.
So, why would I buy a console with a camera included that I cannot use, especially when said console costs $100 more than the alternative?
Not all gamers are able-bodied, just so you know.
True, but since I can't use Kinect for gaming, having a Kinect-less option would get me to buy the system. I won't buy it with Kinect included.
Now that the DRM has been axed, will you be buying XB1?
Price would have been a factor in Sony's favour, but I found their conference lackluster at best. MS gave a better presentation, save for the last 20 minutes of Sony's event. MS' draconian policies and poor messaging gave Sony an open door to 'win' E3.
That's what I'm hoping for. I'd purchase an XB1 without Kinect, now that the DRM fiasco has been dealt with.
I'm impressed that MS acknowledged the pressure from consumers, but doesn't this decision take away from their 'added value' market copy? Without the DRM, online policies, and 10-member sharing groups, what's left to differentiate the XB1 from PS4? Kinect?
If anything, they face a tougher task now with redefining the XB1 in a way that justifies the extra $100 price tag. I'm still pulling for a Kinect-less $399 XB1, though I know it's unlikely.
No, I won't. The PS4 is my console of choice for next gen.
