Well, there is some filtering going on that will make the textures look better even though I get your overall point. However, I'll gladly take sharper image and I'll absolutely take the higher framerate (for some reason we only forgive Nintendo for making 30fps games). Nintendo has its brand, they know they can sell old hardware at a premium price and spend less on development costs and, while some of us feel conned, others will feel it's fine.

Graphics and _Gameplay_ suffer when you have to deal with weaker hardware. Hogwarts Legacy was great, I liked it, but it didn't take advantage of what's possible on the new consoles. There are so many PS4 games that are on the same level as Hogwarts. 60fps and resolution bump not taken into account, but that's not all this gen is possible of and we are seeing that more in true new-gen exclusive games like Ratchet and Clank and FF16 to name a couple.

I'm star...

It's likely that they got the game running at 60fps on X already but not on the SX and MS doesn't want that disparity. The SX is a curse on this generation.

I tried the demo and while I thought it was fun, the graphics aren't really up to par even after the upgrades. It's hard to go from Horizon to this, even if I don't expect all PSVR2 games to look like Horizon. The Walking Dead is a much better upgrade from its Quest origins.

... no one's really mentioned the abuse of slow motion usage? It has elements that look fine, but the trailer is really poorly put together. This feels like demo made by 1-3 (I'm being generous to be completely blunt by saying it might be 3) people hoping to catch a publisher or VC.

I don't want to be completely negative, hope they keep working on it as it's not awful but it needs a lot of work still to be shown to the public.

If the Vita 2 was able to emulate PS4 games, I think it could be a great competitor to Switch. It could also be, like the Switch, a great handheld for great indie games that aren't too processor expensive. Some Sony first-party exclusives, in combination, would IMO make it a success. I just don't think Sony is going to go down that road again.

Xbox Series S has hamstrung this entire console generation and every developer saw this coming and are frustrated about the situation. The only games that will truly push this generation will be PS5 exclusive titles. Insomniac themselves said PS5 exclusive Ratchet and Clank was just the tip of the iceberg of what's capable with the PS5 and it's one of the best looking games out technically. Final Fantasy XVI is looking really good and I can't wait to see what first party Sony PS5 ...

It's a beautiful game but it was hamstrung by last-gen. Profits will be a great addition to the publisher once it releases on XB1 and PS4, but as gamers I think we would want the best possible experience on the current gen consoles and leave the old gen in the dust. Final Fantasy XVI looks to be one of the first games to really show us what current gen can do although Ratchet and Clank was a pretty amazing step. Also looking forward to the PS5 exlcusive Horizon DLC to see what they can do...

Also, I'm pretty sure one of the _main_ themes of the part 2 was revenge begets revenge. They sold that message very clear, and what a poison that mindset can be. Understandable, yes, but it's poison. Both main characters were guilty of it, but one character found a reason to stop the cycle. So Part 3 would just be more revenge? I feel the concluded that saga really well. They could go other directions, but they would have to find a really good one to justify it.

That's not how foveated rendering works. It tracks your pupils in real-time and renders the game at the highest resolution where you are looking, not where your head is turned. I think the in-game resolution of the rearview mirror is just a bit lower to keep up performance.

This happens at every shift to new generation of consoles. This time it's taken so long to fully transition to a new gen, we're not there yet, so PC ports have slowly gotten "worse" as the new consoles are being prioritized. It's not the developer's fault, most of the time, as it's easier to dial in a game for a fixed set of hardware compared to PCs that come in all types of configurations. This is not new.

Expect "bad ports" to get ...

Batman Arkham Knight had DLC, I enjoyed them and paid for them happily because even without the DLC, it was a complete game. If what I get for $70 is a complete game in its own right, I don't care if they add DLC or whatever else.

Now if I had to pay extra $ to get a complete game (like DLC for the ending or something ridiculous like that) or pay $ for a perpetual game with no real ending, like Avengers, that bothers me. Suicide Squad seems to be a complete game at $70 ...

I do wish more developers other than Capcom would add this mode to their games. People like Luke Ross has shown that it's possible for most types of games. His Spider-man mod is very tough to play unless you got extremely strong VR legs, but I'm accustomed enough to play most of his mods without issue and it enhances the experience for me. You'll need strong VR legs, but as I mentioned in another post, you can train those over time if you feel the experience is worth it.

It's real but you train your VR legs every time you play. If you think VR is an experience worth having, just keep playing for short periods and you'll notice that each period will get longer and longer over the sessions. To me, it was worth it because the experience VR delivers is amazing. When I first started playing VR I started off getting motion sickness after 5-10 minutes of gaming in VR, now I can play games similar to Resident Evil 7 for pretty much as long as I want to withou...

Good game directors shoot down bad writing just like in film. That's why some studios are consistent like Sony Santa Monica and some film directors like David Fincher. There's a good interview with him that after Alien 3 he realized he had to become a bulldozer to get his vision across and fight for every decision with the producers for Seven/Fight Club. Since then they don't fight him but that leads me to....

Yes, people holding the money ultimately can shoot d...

What weird timing to write this article. I don't own an Xbox but why hate on a last-gen console needlessly? What was the purpose behind writing this article?

$70 game, half the graphical quality (meaning fewer artists needed and to some extent programmers). Nintendo knows how to make money. Sell old hardware, and now software that doesn't require the same dev team numbers at a premium cost.

Of course I love Nintendo's first party titles so I'll gobble it up, doesn't mean I have to like it.

Personally I would love to see what Nintendo first party titles would look like if developed for curren-g...

That's generally how rain in games is done. You have an emitter over the player that follows him/her/it for performance reasons. You are right that they could fake moving through the rain much better though while still using this method, other games have done this successfully.

The look of the rain is the main sticking point. Rain is water, it's translucent. What you see in real life are reflections from light sources. So if you look in the dark where there's no...
