GOTY is an entirely subjective term. That being said I think MGSV absolutely deserves recognition as a goty contender. The games two biggest issues are its sparse amount of cutscenes and repetitive mission objectives. While both these are legit problems neither are game wrecking. MGSV's wealth of content, amazing core gameplay, and ridiculous layers of depth add so much to it for me. The story is there, but just isn't the focus this time, which understandably could anger some MGS fans...
MGSV is my game of the year so far too....... But what the hell did I just read
I'd have to go with MGSV for sure. The Witcher 3's combat system was my biggest problem with the game, but its the highlight of MGSV. I don't mind the way Kojima structured its story and love the way missions are deployed and structured. Just pure fun gameplay and excellent design all around. Easily a 9.5 out of 10 game at the least.
WellyUK we get it you think MGSV is boring and you prefer the Witcher 3. Jeez I'm not even on this site that often and i noticed that. Its to each their own. If stealth infiltration in an open world that can be tackled from a variety of ways isn't your thing you probably won't find much appeal in TPP. I liked The Witcher 3, but thought it was a good not great game which is a bit of an outside opinion. I found the combat unsatisfying and tedious but thats just my opinion.
If you find MGSV repetitive then that is entirely your own fault. This game gives you the tools to make each encounter different then the last in MEANINGFUL ways. The replay ability is staggering. I could hit the same base twice in a row and play one like a classic MGS infiltration and the next like an Uncharted style action set piece. Thats why this game is so great, its your story all told through gameplay.
Even if you don't care for the direction of Halo 4's multiplayer you can't deny the greatness of the campaign which had the deepest story and character depth of the series. Not to mention that the pvp multiplayer in Halo 4 wasn't bad by any stretch, in fact it is pretty damn good, it just strayed to far away from what makes Halo multiplayer so classic.
I'm pretty sure Titanfall is well regarded as pretty damn good game by critics and players alike.... I mean its got an 87 on meteoritic and just because a lot of people didn't think it lived up to the hype because of lack of content doesnt mean it wasn't good. The gameplay in Titanfall was prestine and the map design was great. Titanfall garnered great reviews at launch but became twice the game it was post launch through free updates that mattered. Granted I play Titanfall rarely...
I think Rise of the Tomb Raider has much more potential to compete with Fallout 4 then Mad Max does with MGSV. Both are iconic game franchises while Mad max is far less influential and anticipated then MGSV
The beta was pretty good and already solidifies it as the best COD multiplayer since BLOPS2. Theres a few keys to COD that many developers miss. A great COD multiplayer is well defined, accessible and most importantly has smart map design and gameplay decisions. I don't think its often that people realize just how important map design is in competitive multiplayer games. I'd say its right below gameplay in how integral it is.
I'm kind of concerned from what i've heard about the story and boss fights. A Metal Gear game with a sparse story and ill-defined boss fights just doesn't sound right. Don't get me wrong i'm sure the game will be incredible but I'm a bit worried about those aspects.
I mean its defintly an improvement over the abysmal 2014. Is it as awesome as 2013 with The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, GTAV and Tomb Raider.... I wouldn't say so yet. So far this year we've had 4 major AAA goty contenders; The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Batman Arkham Knight and now presumably MGSV. And still have Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4, and Star Wars Battlefront coming this year. So it has the potential to be the best year since at least 2013 if not 2011. A marked ...
Personally I'd say:
1) Gears of War 3 - great campaign, best multiplayer, 2 great co-op modes.
2) Gears of War 2 - Best campaign and Horde mode of the series but worst multiplayer
3) Gears of War - Dark smaller scaled campaign, amazing multiplayer
4) Gears Judgment - Worst campaign of there series, worst pvp, worst horde mode but Overrun mode was with the price of entry alone.
All 4 games are good with the trilogy all being all ...
Calling this review click bait isn't really fair imo. This is a story driven cinematic game where the story choices are the majority of its gameplay. If the reviewer thins the story sucks then he has every reason to give it a bad score since thats what the whole game is based on.
Not saying he's right or its a good review but just that his opinion is justifiable in that context.
For me its between Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, and Mortal Kombat X right now. With Rocket league, The Witcher 3 and Dying Light being outside contenders. I'm hoping games like MGSV, Halo 5, Rise of the tomb raider or Fallout 4 can blow me away later this year.
So excited for this. Halo 5 has potential to be the best installment yet.
If I had to rank my top 5 i'd go:
1)MW2
2)Cod 4
3)Black Ops 2
4)Advanced Warfare
5) Black Ops
The majority of players pick COD 4 because of how innovative and ground breaking it was at the time but i think MW2 hold up superior. To me MW2 was modern warfare + basically refining and expanding on all the ideas of the original. The original MW may be more iconic but I prefer almost everything from a gameplay and mode perspect...
I mean they had no choice. Halo 5 is ambitious enough where split screen just isn't doable at this point. What don't people understand about that. Theres a way to get around lack of split screen - play online. There is no work around for lack of ambitious design and tech.
Such an iconic ad and game. This really brings back the memories and makes me excited again to play Gears next week. So excited the greatest Third-person shooter franchise of all time is back!
Well to be fair who isn't? I mean Uncharted is arguably the greatest adventure series of all time.
Couldn't agree more. It may not be the MGS everyone wanted but its a beast of game on its own merits.
