Technically they already lost the immediate appeal with the judge and unless the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals responds amazingly fast for the 2nd appeal (which they have no obligation to rush), the temporary restraining order expires today and MS can close the deal between now and the 18th which is very much so the likely scenario.
After that it’s just waiting for the actual antitrust case to happen
I would honestly prefer if they go with a proper sequel route like in previous titles (assuming they have a good enough story for it).
Major story expansions, no matter how good they can be, rarely sell enough to justify them for the publisher and then developers just end up complaining or reducing the scope of the dlc too much because of it
Well that doesnt mean a good one cant be made.
Nintendo has continued to great make 3D Platformers, while not exactly the same Ratchet is not an entirely different genre either. Psychonauts 2 was great as well.
There is potential for a good Banjo game with the right developer.
That said, within MS probably only Double Fine or Toys for Bob I think could pull it off, Rare should stay far away from it, they are a very different team now
The supreme court actually chooses their own cases and not everything can actually get to the level of the supreme court.
This is probably the only level of appeal that this is going to go through (you cant really keep appealing to infinity) and I dont think anyone really expected the FTC to not appeal just as MS obviously appealed in the UK.
Ultimately, the most likely scenario at this point in time and mentioned by the article is that its really unlikely (if not impossible...
I dont see why the year it was released would have anything to do since we are talking about writing.
Also, if anything, besides some of the procedural side quests that are meant to be repetitive, BGS games have always had some pretty good side quests, especially the ones related to specific factions that involve long quest chains and multiple options/scenarios
They literally said to go play something else if you ran out of things to do for now…what are you on about?
They literally need to close before July 18th to avoid paying $3 billion.
This is getting closed before then and any appeal or the antitrust case from the FTC would only be handled after the merger is completed.
Though given how they lost now, and the way they lost, those 2 things aren’t looking very likely anyway. There is a reason why its being announced as basically a victory for MS
I wouldnt say it ended perfectly as it left some pretty big questions unanswered and the post credit scene just didn’t do it for me.Though its hard to go into details without spoiling stuff and it feels too soon for that.
The world, story and characters deserved a proper epilogue BEFORE this cutscene, though
They are a bit hit and miss on this game, some that evolve over the course of the game’s story are pretty good overall, but they do feel a bit repetitive by the end (especially AT the end because in typical RPG fashion they drop like 14-15 at once right before the last mission)
My biggest issue is that if you do like to do all the side quests and want to get some of those cool stories in the 3rd act, it does significantly drag down the pacing of the main story.

No one that has played both games would ever say that Tales of Arise has less RPG elements. If anything, as you say, its the perfect example of being able to do heavy action combat and still being an RPG
@Otter
Interestingly enough, if you did choose to get into a semantics debate, it would honestly just make it even less of an RPG haha, as there is practically zero ROLE PLAYING in the game.
Its a linear story, a defined character with defined choices and dialog, no ability to customize your build or jobs/classes, cant modify (or use) your party members, equipment is basically irrelevant, leveling is almost as irrelevant, skills are practically based on preference ...
While FF16 is absolutely a Final Fantasy game (setting, characters, story, etc) it is barely an RPG, and its not just about combat.
If you want an example of an Action RPG with combat that is just as action focused as this one, while still feeling like an RPG, just look at Tales of Arise.
I’m still loving the game, but it is like 5% RPG, maybe 10% if I’m feeling generous. And what little RPG elements it has, are pretty scaled down.

I still cant see a mid gen upgrade coming out any time soon, if at all.
They barely sold last time, even with the specific marketing appeal of 4k and HDR, what would be the push this time.
Not to mention, the consoles 3 years into their potential 8 year lifespan have INCREASED their cost. What would a Pro console would even cost to actually get a discernible difference in specs (especially considering costs for parts arent really dropping) ? $700? $800?

@Shane
Well, its the point of the entire article and their discussion in the podcast. With crossgen games it was much easier to get good performance modes (even 120fps modes) because the backbone on the game’s design is still targeting last gen (in particular their weak CPUs)
No one is saying they are not pretty games, Forza Horizon 5 is also a good example of a game being cross gen and having a significant difference too.
The point is,...
The link to the article is literally right there in his comment…..
The title is LITERALLY what happened… Sony redacted the lines in the documents poorly and the information on it was still clearly visible to the naked eye.
Its the same reason the budget and dev time for GoW and HFW got leaked
Because it was redacted information, except that it was so poorly redacted that you could see the information clearly behind the black bars even without using any kind of software to enhance the images. Its the same way the budget and time for GOW and HFW got leaked.
There is nothing wrong with the title
Yes, but then again, both of those games were cross gen
I mean, if all you are going for is the titles of each video/article then yes, it would seem contradictory.
But the “flawless” video was never about having perfect performance, if anything almost right away he addressed it was lacking. It was about everything else and that its practically bug/issues free. Yes, they shouldn’t have called it flawless in the title with such a bad performance mode, but it doesnt hurt to actually watch the videos too.

Its not really cheaping out, they have a very different focus, which is price and battery life.
Even the ROG and Steamdeck show how hard the balance is in a handheld when it comes to power/cooling/noise vs performance. And those are machines that are practically twice as expensive.
People need to learn to be more realistic when it comes to expectations for any kind of handheld, at least until battery technology significantly changes.
