From the moment they showed the Open World section and later the companions, I had already imagined it was going to be lower 80s

Not that those can’t be done right, but in a Metroid game in particular, they would have had to have done them practically perfectly in order for it to not feel somewhat out of place, which is not out of the realm of possibility for Nintendo, but it was certainly more against the vibe of Metroid than with other of their franchises.

If anything, I’d say the problem with the Game Awards is entirely in the opposite direction. The way the jury pool is handled means it is waaaaaay too much of an unfiltered popularity contest, which clearly shows in games being in wrong categories or ones that are clearly missing from them.

The jury pool is 100+ media outlets, There are very little to no restrictions on what they submit. Each media outlet has their own method for deciding internally what they propose. And t...

Its crazy how after all these years and so many explanations, including on the website itself and on the nomination videos, some people still can’t understand that the nominations and votes are just an aggregate of what 100+ media outlets send out (and even they internally usually also just tabulate and aggregate their own lists internally)

There are no discussions between the jurors, no justification that needs to be provided, if a game is nominated or won, its because the...

Crazy for me that The Alters isn’t up for Best Performance (and in that same category I would have 100% put Andy Serkis instead of Charlie Cox for E33)

And also no Mario Kart World in the score/soundtrack is just wild

How so? If anything it is basically the exact same concept MS seems to be going for their own “console” but this one is clearly aimed at a much more budget spec, basically base PS5 (with strangely low VRAM).

If this is successful, it would prove the concept at least, is sound. Then it would be a matter of whether going for a more higher spec’d machine / price, with the option of more storefronts (but Windows, though hopefully they continue to build on their current work) is...

Well, they did show some extra stuff being added to the main game, though its hard to gauge how significant it will be. The MP stuff seems to be the main focus

It literally doesn’t have any improvements on the base game, at all, its the Switch 1 version. Only the TV section, which is completely separate to the base game, has any

Honestly, while UE5 still has massive problems to fix, shader compilation and traversal stutters are completely known at this point, as well as how to at least help mitigate some of it.

So when a game comes out with this level of performance, to me its way more the dev’s fault at that point.

They know what engine they are using, the issues it has and that there are ways to mitigate them, the QA time they put aside for it and whether to release the game o...

That particular type of stutter is specific to PCs (not that there aren’t other types on consoles) because each console is a fixed platform, while on PC you have a whole bunch of different components and drivers. So developers cannot pre-cache all shaders like they do for consoles.

Even when developers know how to properly implement shader compilation it can have some small amount of stuttering here or there.

But when they don’t know how to properly impl...

To me it feels like they were expecting more publishers to jump on the bandwagon and given that only Nintendo did and with only 1* game, and that also got plenty of criticism, they are now backtracking and let someone else take the hit before they inevitably go back to that price point (probably next year)

@Ganif

She is literally saying “not tied to a single store”, which is the same thing they said when presenting the ROG Xbox Ally, which has the modified Windows that is also built around supporting all PC storefronts…

Which also goes in line with what insiders and media have reported from their sources. All signs point to the next Xbox being something that used that modified Windows and allowing the use of other storefronts

For the same reason they still have a laptop hardware lineup even though they have Windows.

Having some kind of retail presence for visibility and marketing won’t really affect them in any way.

I still expect them to have 1 or 2 SKUs that they won’t sell at a loss but will continue the trend of selling way less than the competition (though its still selling millions), just like they have their Surface laptops even though they could happily coast knowing p...

The article is very clear that this is not about having the game run internally at 4k120, but just having the output resolution be that, so the TV is not the one doing the upscaling (of the output)

Probably the simplest to work around with. They are reportedly doing it in UE5, so its just as much an Anniversary thing, as its probably the studio getting familiar and setting up their tools and processes in the engine with an actual game, to facilitate the development of the next Halo

Your entire comment is basically treating DLSS as if it was a free upgrade, when it actually takes up a significant portion of the rendering budget to use DLSS.

They could absolutely be hitting close to the same resolutions if they were going native, but why do that if DLSS from a lower resolution still looks better than native TSR?

The specs have been known for quite a while, its not really a secret that the Switch is practically a portable PS4 Pro, mayb...

Cyberpunk is absolutely not a last gen game. They designed for PC first and then tried to cram it together at the end of the dev cycle and that is why its an absolute disaster.

By that same logic, games like Arkham Knight or Witcher 3 that run extremely compromised on Switch 1 (and in the case of AK, probably one of the worst performing games ever) are basically PS3 level games

People parroting AI responses without actually knowing about the subject to be able to tell if its accurate or within context

Constant rise of media/youtubers chasing negativity as it generates more views

Continued increase of independent “media” that rarely seems to care about fact checking or context (linked to point above)

More and more people using said youtubers/streamers/tik tokers as their news/opinion consumption and then just r...

The main issue will be if they don’t remove the double buffer vsync in them.

Yes, they are technically already 60fps capped, but that vsync setup means even a single dropped frame below 60 sends it to 30fps.

Now if they are also increasing the resolution and visuals in the game, unless there is a pretty significant overhead, which is still likely but not fully understood due to the unknowns of the “emulation” setup, if the 1% lows in the game still drop i...

Its just 2 methods for doing arguably the same thing

PS Basic 100 days , you PAY to upgrade the difference to the next tier, keep 100 days total.

Xbox Core 100 days, you DONT pay anything extra to upgrade, but your total amount of days is now matched to how many you would have based on the price of Ultimate.

The only change (for the worse) now is that previously it would have kept 66% of the amount of time you had and now its 50%, but again...

I don’t know if I would really call Clair Obscure a “looker”, Artistically its pretty amazing, but on a technical level it 100% feels like a last gen game that can be maxed out on PC.

But lightning, shadows, especially textures (those can be quite bad for some things), etc, they can be pretty average looking

Not that I’m necessarily complaining, good art direction will almost always trumps over those things specially if its a matter of prioritizing other ...
