Just because they are both made in Unreal doesn’t mean that every single component and codebase is the same for all games, there are tons of other components in a game besides UE
Fortnite’s networking code has nothing to do with Remnant’s
Its a 2gb difference if you decide to add up the 2 RAM types on PC (which you shouldn’t because that not how it works)
And even then Windows alone uses about the same 2Gb as the Series S reserves for its OS, with the caveat that on PC you will also be using memory for other background stuff
So no, I wouldn’t really say that the memory situation is that different between the 2 (not really saying the memory situation of the SS is ideal though).

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon RX 480 (4GB+ of VRAM)
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 / AMD FX 8350.
RAM: 8GB.
Those are the minimum requirements for BG3 on PC… its a 2014 CPU and GPU, its is basically a potato PC at this point
@fr0sty
Please tell me you are not telling someone to actually learn what stuff means before commenting and then talking about AI and Physics being memory related as opposed to CPU related tasks (which incidentally is where the Series S has the most negligible downgrade, with just a 0.2Ghz downclock)
Given their comments on the topic, it seems very likely
To be fair, even based on the first Spiderman game they did went with a different take by using Mr Negative and even Doc Oc was more nuanced and different than most recent film and game interpretations (and Miles Morales also went with an unusual enemy too)
I couldn’t really argue against the opinion that the trailers for SP2 do seem to be threading the same Venom story (for the most part) that we have seen before, BUT Spiderman 1 actually wasn’t that different and the stor...
I though the Pro only represented about 20% of the PS4 sales (and thats assuming that someone that bought a Pro wouldn’t have bought a regular if that were the only option)
I wouldn’t really call that selling truckloads. Both the Pro and One X were never the biggest sellers
@Christopher
No… near instant access to data is not related to read write speeds… that is the bandwith/throughput once the data has been found, I suggest you actually take your time to understand how an SSD works
And you are pretty conceited if you think I would ever go through the trouble of creating accounts to agree or disagree with anything (and pretty arrogant to think that if you have disagrees its because someone has to using troll accounts)
@fr0sty
You seem to be really mixing up how Direct Storage works and what that spec sheet showed.
Yes, they are including HDDs in the minimum spec which runs at 720p30, but they are also including an 8 year old GPU and CPU for those specs.
Direct Storage isn’t going to harm performance (specially at lower resolutions) because its moving the task away from the CPU to the GPU which is better suited to the task, let alone leaving the fact ...
@Christopher
Care to explain WHY its BS? You dont really seem to want to explain how Ratchet and Clank ran just in an SSD almost 3X slower than the internal SSD of the PS5 and there is video proof of it.
SSDs might have significantly higher speeds, but the absolutely most important factor on why they are so different is because of how they have near instant access to the data, and that coupled with the dedicated hardware decompression block (the part that Direct St...
@Christopher
Even without the discussion of Direct Storage on PC, RC was tested on a PS5 with an SSD that had so many pins taped off that it was only running at about 1.7Gbps and it ran perfectly with barely a difference in load times.
SSDs are important this gen because of how they read and access data , not so much because of their speed (though obviously speed isn’t completely irrelevant). That whole speed discussion was nothing more than the typical ...
@Vits
How would making a device that is more powerful than its needed be cheaper or easier for them?
I mean, just because its “more impressive” doesnt suddenly mean they still aren’t making significantly less money or that game development costs are reduced because the install base is lower
They were literally asked about the Series S … of course they specifically talked about it
Its not like they aren't already designing for PCs with similar or even lower end specs than the Series S for the Minimum Recommended options.
Of course its more work and they need to go around the limitations of the hardware, but they were going to do it anyway
Honestly, given how Bungie has been with Destiny for such a long time and its probably now at one of its weakest points in terms of both the game and the community, I hope Sony and the other studios are picky when it comes to what they choose to learn from Bungie because even they themselves might be taking for granted that people will continue to support them in the same way after burning so many bridges with D2 in the end
Its also not strictly a multiplayer shooter as in Halo or many others.
It will be interesting to see what their take is on the extraction genre as its not exactly the biggest among the shooter subgenres
Not to defend their current GaaS strategy, I do think they are being a bit exagerated.
But I dont exactly blame them either. If each major game is taking 4-5 years of development (outside of Insomniac who are just on a different level to everyone else), they really need to find ways to plug up some of those gaps in the calendar with something that is a more consistent revenue stream.
I do also wish they tried to release smaller scale quality games to fill those gaps rather ...
Why do people keep acting like studios being purchased is some kind of new thing in the gaming industry?
It has been happening since waaaaay too long and for the most part everything has stayed relatively the same. Just because its Sony or MS buying a Studio as opposed to EA or some other publishers doesn’t really change that much the landscape of the industry.
What is going to happen is the same thing that usually happens, the senior leadership in those studios wi...
If you decide to ignore that the vast majority of PC gamers are running on hardware that is basically the same as this console generation or worse and decide to focus on the 1%, then yeah, some PC gamers have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy better settings, resolutions and framerates.
The rest of PC gamers? They are playing at console settings in 1080p or 1440p monitors
