I was under the impression that most people like to get 'deals' on the things they purchase. Since the beginning of time we have always haggled for everything we buy. In today's world, everything is sold largely by expansive mega-merchandizers, so that element of bartering and trading has somewhat lessened, but the desire to do it has not.
Not only have game companies created additional income streams from their products via DLC, but they have then used that as...
You can really see the difference in the single-player visual fidelity and the multi-player visual fidelity. Single player looks very impressive. I really don't know who will come out on top as the visual king this year... but, regardless of who does, we are all going to be in for some good times, no matter what platform you game on.
I think most people know that the price argument has always been false. However, it's one of, if not the only argument that a console centered video game player has to use. I accept all the platforms for their strengths and weaknesses. It's all good and should be to everyone else too. My favored platform has always been the PC, but I can understand why many like consoles, I myself have owned many in my day.
PC is great and won't be going anywhere. People can ta...
Valve doesn't deserve it, they earned it. They have provided a superior service with great deals that you rarely find anywhere else, if ever anywhere else.
There is no deserve in business, only earn.
They are defining what it means to be digital distribution, much like Blizzard has defined what it means to be a modern MMO.
Steam is setting the tone and pace and that's a very good position to be in.
@tigersnake86 - Games on PC generated 13 Billion in revenue last year from retail alone. With or without Steam, PC gaming is doing fine. But, Steam is a great service and is doing great things for game development PERIOD, no matter what you think the best platform happens to be. Indie development has never been more possible (or royalty free, unlike licensing from one of the big three consoles right now).
I personally don't know if you just don't understand how th...
I think it's more accurate to say that they have earned it. That's how business works. Deserving something in business is pretty much irrelevant.
Really what you are talking about is unrealistic expectation, which we are all pretty much guilty of at some point in our lives.
I think that too many people shit on things for no other reason than because they can or perhaps simply because they don't want to see something succeed, because in their view it takes away from what they like or have invested in. This is a selfish viewpoint, but it is very human and in fact, companies (and politicians) use this to their advan...
I don't really think it has to do with one group being more negative than another. I think that most people in general have a tendency to make cynical or negative comments. Negative news sells. Tabloid gossip sells. I think it's fairly logical to assume if you went anywhere on the internet you would find negativity.
However, there is a difference between being negative and being realistic.
There is also a big difference between the general happine...
It's too bad they didn't ask about levitation... they need to bring that back. I don't want it to be a mod, I want it incorporated in the vanilla game. It was cool and added to the game world.
Steam will end up growing year-over-year. It's only the beginning. Traditional retail, however, is still the big sales outlet and will continue to be for quite some time.
I will be picking 'Deus Ex' to great success.
I'm a big fan of TES all the way back to the beginning and I am really looking forward to this game and the 100's of hours of gameplay and additional mods and expansions later on. This game will no doubt be a great experience and I feel I can say that with unyielding confidence.
Games like Killzone and Crysis are all well and fun, but this kind of game is where it's at.
I would not take that bet, because you are more than likely right.
"^^ Yeah, I'm getting the text adventure version for my 48k speccy "
Dude, you too? I thought I was the only one.
I think Kanye West should completely stop...everything...now.
Wow, I'm still trying to adjust to the idea that a girl had a copy of Dead Space 2. A decently attractive one at that... cha cha changes.
Looking forward to this. I liked the first and second, but I always thought the Dungeon Siege games felt like they were missing something or seemed kind of generic to me. I did enjoy them, but not as much as other games of that genre.
I feel if they got a real team to work on it, it could be really good. With a property like Dead Space, I feel you would need to get James Cameron on board. He has a proven track record of great scripts and can direct... I mean, he did Alien and The Abyss. If you add in some John Carpenter (The Thing, which I feel Dead Space borrows from already somewhat) you would have a real movie... like a real one that could become very popular and make lots of money (and be worth watching)
Did she tell you that?
@LightofDarkness - You made a good point and I see what you are trying to say, however I somewhat disagree -notice the 'somewhat'. While established religions don't tend to directly require donations, they do indirectly solicit them. I know that when I use to go to church with my family when I was much younger, there was a definite feel that you should donate something. Even if you are not forced to do so, you are pressured in more subtle ways, which can have a much better result...
