I'm talking about when the DS first released to the market back in 2004. It was outsold by the GBA for a while. Just like the 3DS is being outsold by the DS now.
When the DS first came out, it sold very poorly compared to the Game Boy Advance. Now look at it today. It's the best-selling video game system of all time. Once the DS is old news and the 3DS gets into full swing, I bet it will be a huge success.
So here are total worldwide sales for the 3 big consoles for the first half of 2011 according to the financial reports:

True. When the 360 is the lead platform, the 360 version usually looks better while when the PS3 is the lead platform, both versions look identical.

What are you talking about? Sony and Microsoft released their numbers for the first quarter of 2011 and the 360 outsold the PS3 by 600,000 units. But I guess those numbers just slipped right past you, huh?

This is very odd... Where on Earth are these people getting their sales data? Microsoft and Sony have only released their numbers for Q1 (Jan - Mar) 2011. Microsoft reported sales of 2.7 million Xbox 360 units:
