I think those people are more talking about where they'll buy their multiplats, telling friends where to find them for multiplayer, which subscription service to sign up for, and the like.
What you're talking about applies pretty much just to exclusive titles.

Well consider the users of this site. I don't think N4G is bombarded with racing fans. So not as big a pool of the gamers here can speak up for it.
As for gears, I haven't played it, so I can't really comment. I've only played the original gears and was very unimpressed. This new one seems to have more of a horror vibe to it, so I'll give it a shot but due to caution, I'm waiting on a good sale price.
Honestly, If that's how you feel, I'd suggest trading up to a PS4 or PC. PS4 if their exclusives interest you, PC if you don't want to let go of Xbox's titles with play anywhere. If you feel a company isn't doing right by you as a consumer then it's time to take a look at the competition.

Yes. there's a case for both. It'd be a big middle finger to MS and it almost writes itself. "Xbox is focusing on last gen games and they let scalebound go, we care about new games and new IP, so we saved scalebound, you can save it on playstation."
For Nintendo, it'd show a big third party title which is something they really need image wise; and further their relationship with platinum games building on what was started with bayonetta.
Yeah but I think it's just a different set of circumstances. Sony's main money maker is playstation so a lot of their effort goes towards it, where as MS is more concerned with windows and its shareholders want xbox gone so it doesn't get as much TLC.

I always saw it as a win/ win for MS and their core fans. Their core fans only really want multiplayer shooters and racers. SO that's what they give them. Win for their fans. Then they want MP games because there's more money to be made with xbl subs, microtransactions, dlc and season passes. win for MS.
PS fans demand variety, thus they have a healthy mix. Nintendo fans really only buy Nintendo titles, so that's where their exclusives focus is, mascot titles. <...
