They came up with it as a way to gain some extra cash as they saw cost rise and revenues stay flat. But our refusal to pay more for games that cost more to make caused them to look for other ways to make up the difference. Heck, if memory serves superman 64 retailed for over $100. this $60 per game standard just came out of no where last gen.
Now the counterpoint I keep hearing is "Yeah I'd rather spend 60 then buy DLC's if I like the game than ...
My guess would be they're happy because it's not 10 years ago and it's becoming more rare everyday.

I am an xbox owner but I'm seriously considering trading it and my ps4 in for a PS4pro. even at gamestop prices, it'd be more than half off. Plus with my gaming PC I won't miss out on any xbox games that interest me.
Wasn't going to bother with the pro, but I need a bigger hard drive and with the money I'd get from trade ins... kinda of a "might as well" situation.

I agree, But I was more referring to it being a marquee xbox title. Halo and gears kinda busted out the gate to get there where as forza was more a slower build. My overall point being that I haven't seen anything like that (franchise starter) on the X1 thus far. My two highest hopes were quantum break and scalebound, and well, we see how those turned out.
Have to agree. the original Xbox gave us Halo, the 360 gave us Gears. along the way forza got bigger and bigger to the point of going toe to toe with grand turismo. The X1... crickets.

Yeah, the point that seems to be consistently lost is that worst selling playstation, the PS3 still outsold the best selling xbox, the 360. And that was with almost every advantage xbox could have hoped for, the 360 had a full year headstart, was cheaper, multiplats generally performed better, with the RROD, they got people buying multiple consoles, and they benefitted from PS's bad PR moves (get a second job) not to mention the PSN hack.
Where did they say it was total units sold over the last six months? where did they say it was most months of the last 6? Why are they limiting it to six months?

That GREATLY depends on which area of the game you're talking about. a single player focused successful game usually has a tougher time with getting things like plot and story right. Look at games like mass effect with the game saves carrying over multiple choices where as in overwatch... is there realty any story there? Now on the gameplay side, a COD title nails it (talking mechanics here), they have to. But compare that to a telltale game where what would be considered unplayable p...
