The world seems to be extremely varied. Must buy this game.

Konami should give an option toggle between 3rd or 1st person view like in Siren: Blood Curse. That'd be great.

Only the most delusional fanboys think the 360 is equal to PS3 when it comes to graphics. What I do is, I simply use the ignore feature on them :)

That explains why those AW screengrabs look blurry and washed out. At first I thought Remedy were using lo-res textures. I guess the 540p render of gameplay geometry is the real culprit for AW's blurry and washed out look.

I won't change my mind about getting the game, but I have to admit I feel somewhat disappointed. 5 years developing this game on an easy to program platform and yet Remedy still manages to output one of the lowest res game this generation.

And I a...

I agree with you. Both camps need to chill! We should wait until the actual game releases.

I am more concerned with Alan Wake's blurry textures and screen tearing at this moment than whatever native resolution the game is running at.

Yes, I knew what you meant.

Remedy needs to provide their own official screen capture from the actual xbox360 version to put an end to all this speculation.

The more I look at Alan Wake, the more I see similarities to Spinter Cell Conviction. Both games have blurry textures, both have ample amounts of screen tearing. We know for a fact that SC:C is running in sub-HD resolution. I can't be certain of AW's resolution just yet until I see actual evidence from Remedy.

Is the Community Manager of the Alan Wake forum actually part of the Remedy's dev team?

We should wait for more news on this.

Still, those Alan Wake textures look washed out and blurry. And the frequent screen-tearing means the engine has an uphill battle to maintain a smooth 30 frames per second. And no more than 4 enemies on-screen?

All this symptoms means AW is not as technically impressive as some people would believe.

Damn, do you see those textures on that Neogaf pics? Looks blurry and washed out. Reminds me of textures in a Wii game called Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

Remedy, you have failed.

"Best visuals ever" should not have such horrendous screen-tearing. I hope this 12 minute preview is not the final build.

Looks like a nice addition to my horror game collection!

I hope the screen tearing will be absent in the final build of the game.

Of course graphics is not all about character models.

Fortunately U2 also has beautiful hi-res textures in great variety, beautiful DOF, insane physics calculations, huge draw distances, crazy amounts of animations, great AI for enemies, and multiplayer to boot!

U2 has proven itself with plenty of awards from fellow game designers. I'll wait and see whether Alan Wake will be the same.

Did you read the article at all?

Alan Wake developers respond to the in-game graphics debate:

"All of the cinematics have been rendered by our game engine, though. It's just that we use more high-resolution models because the camera tends to be a lot closer to the characters than during gameplay, and we throw in a bunch of post-processing to make things look very pretty."

For comparison, Alan Wake character model polygons is 10k - 20k: ...

The difference being:

In U2 pre-rendered cutscenes, Naughty Dog uses the same character models and post processing effects you see during the gameplay.

In AW pre-rendered cutscenes, Remedy uses a more detailed character models and post-processing effects that you will not see during the gameplay.

When UC2 switches from cutscenes to actual gameplay, the difference is minimal/seamless. When AW switches from cutscenes to actual gameplay, the differenc...

Some fanboys were overhyping AW as the game that will beat PS3 exclusives in graphics but I've always known they were just jealous of games like U2 and GOW3. After Metro 2033, SC:Conviction, Halo: Reach failed to reach PS3 visuals, AW was their only ammo left.

I'm still getting AW, just because I'm crazy about the horror/thriller genre.

Hello!

Thank you for your courteous reply. :)

I still think Remedy is overusing and abusing the slow-mo. I think all that slow-mo based on that trailer is going to hamper my enjoyment of the game rather than enhance it.

GOW3 has a better implementation of slow-mo, only when Kratos is about to disembowel/decapitate/maim/amp utate his enemies. In normal gameplay GOW3 does not use slow-mo. Just my opinion.

Bubbles to you!

After finishing GOW3 multiple times, it's hard to be impressed by this new Alan Wake trailer, IMO.

The monochromatic color palette looks plain ugly, characters facial expressions look somewhat stiff, gameplay animations not as smooth as UC2, excessive use of slow motion (which I hope to God isn't some cheap trick to hide framerate drops), etc.

I was kinda hyped for Alan Wake, but after the Metro 2033 fiasco I know better than to overhype an xbox360 game before I actu...

If Epic wants to reclaim their "visual leadership" they better start choosing a better lead platform for their future games. Either the PC or the PS3.

I like my 360, however it's my PS3 that's giving me bar-raising games more consistently. :)

It's a good thing I have finished Heavy Rain. GOW3 is going to get my undivided attention this month. Gotta love being a PS3 owner!
