I would say Crysis 2 still wins.

Does Rage have any of the following:
- full real time projected shadows instead of pre-baked
- dynamic/moving lightsources
- SSAO
- per object motion blur
- runs in 3D
- particle effects interacting with environments
- destructible environments

Not if based on what I've seen so far.

Xbox fans give too many free passes for when a graphically hyped game fails to deliver. When a 540p screen tearing low-res textured game gets praised as "teh bestest grafix evar!!1" its no wonder 360 devs become lazy when it comes to pushing gfx standards (Bungie for example). If xbox fans were more critical maybe, just maybe devs would step up their efforts more.

end rant.

OT:

Rage looks really good. 60fps is always a good th...

No pre-rendered trickery you say? Dude, the environment shadows are exactly that: TRICKERY. They are pre-baked, hence not a heavy burden on resources like having full realtime projected shadows ala Red Dead Redemption.

Rage looks great, I agree. But at the cost of having pre-baked shadows in the environments. The game runs in 60fps so they kind of cancels out. I'm just disappointed with fake shadows, that's all.

You guys realize Rage uses pre-baked shadows for the environments right? How is this supposed to be better than full realtime shadows like in Crysis2? I'd rather Rage runs in solid 30fps but uses full realtime shadows.

I agree. The lighting isn't up to Crysis2 or KZ3 standards. Pre-baked shadows are a relic of the past and should be phased out in today's games.

Besides, Rage environments are devoid of life when compared to RDR. Where's the wildlife? Where are the trees with foliage moving with the wind? I understand it's a post apocalypse world but surely if humans survived smaller animals should be there also?

Looks good but it seems to me the environments use "fake" pre-baked shadowmaps like in Halo 3. Watch the G4tv clip at 1:16. There is a pole casting a long shadow on the ground. Your character passes under the pole's "shadow", but no actual shadow is cast onto your AK rifle. Unrealistic.

I prefer environments where every object project real time shadow. Red Dead Redemption is a good example. If Rage does indeed use pre-baked shadows then I expect ther...

This has great potential to be a bonafide IP. Is this game from 3rd party?

KZ3 + Move is proof of how hardcore motion control games should be. I am LMAO at kinect right now.

5810d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Kinect failed because Microsoft would not allow normal people/gamers to test the peripheral for themselves. Msoft has very little faith in their own product and based on the fake pre-recorded demos we know the device still isn't ready!

The E3 trailer graphics look amazing for something running on xbox 360. The only problem I see are jaggies, as if the game has no anti-aliasing at this current build. The trailer looks like all cutcenes though, the actual gameplay clips looks kind of boring TBH.

Being a hardcore Black fan in the ps2 days I am really disappointed with this gameplay clip. Destructable environments are not really that special nowadays, Bodycount needs to do a helluva lot more to impress people who are used to KZ2, Gears 2, UC2, etc.

Looks exciting, faster and more action packed than KZ2 with no screen tearing! Can't wait to see other environments like jungles, etc. GG is definitely stepping up their game!

The graphics look okay enough during night but when the sun comes up AW cannot hide all those low res textures. Indoor textures are so low they look like
Wii textures. No weather effects to speak of other than wind, the game has so many things lacking its hard to fathom why anyone could give it a 10.

One of the reasons I like Red Dead Redemption so much is because I could spend hours just riding a horse and admiring the scenery, exactly like I did in SoTC!

Please let this be true Sony!

The most beautiful open world game I have ever seen on console. Playing it on my 360, loving it like no other games so far this year.

Alan Wake has no weather effects beside the wind/tornado thing. There is no rainfall in Bright Falls. Remedy could add rain effects in future DLCs though.

Here's another point of comparison:

U2: per-object motion blur
AW: camera motion blur

U2: weather effects such as rain and blizzard. Nathan gets wet when it rains, he leaves footprints in the snow.
AW: the only "weather" you'll see is windy with a chance of small tornado. No wet effects or footprints whatsoever.

Alan Wake has nice jacket physics animation though. That's the only thing that U2 lack...

Dude, 720p vs 540p is not an opinion. Screen tearing vs smooth framerates is not an opinion. Low res textures vs hi res textures is not an opinion.
