Another PS3 exclusive setting the bar in console tech! I have a feeling The Last Guardian will trump GOW3 in scale and wonder though. :)
I was one of the doubters who thought GOW3 won't look as good as Uncharted 2. Glad I was proven wrong!
I think I'm going to enjoy Alan Wake later this year. This generation needs more horror titles!
Alan Wake is no doubt a very impressive 360 title, but some people are forgetting a certain AIAS best graphics award of 2009 winner:
Outstanding Achievement in Animation
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Outstanding Achievement in Game Play Engineering
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
...
It's easy having fanboys praise your game to high heaven, but getting praised by others in the gaming industry itself is a true testament of Naughty Dog's quality. Bravo!
Now will all PS3 owners please buy or at least rent this game! Show your support! :)
Glad to see Naughty Dog's hard work being appreciated by their peers.
I sure will! :)
Greatest looking 360 game for sure, comparable to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Some nitpicks though:
Lighting: the early part where Alan Wake walks into the cabin, the lamps in that cabin does not produce shadows. Weird. And how is one character holding a flashlight suddenly become the greatest lighting achievement in videogames? Uncharted 2 can have as many as 3 flashlights from 3 characters.
Physics/animation: the bridge part is absolutely intense, howe...
Japanese devs are so far behind western dev techwise in this generation of gaming. Even in the PS3 version those ground textures look flat and low-res.
The only Japanese dev who can still deliver cutting edge tech will be Team Ico with The Last Guardian and Polyphony with GT5.
Thanks, Man. Alan Wake is shaping to be the best graphics on 360 without a doubt! I wish I had a thumbs up icon I could use :)
I respect your opinion if you think Alan Wake looks better.
However, if we are going to compare Alan Wake and U2 features to features (ignoring subjective personal preferences to art or design direction) I think U2 will come out on top in physics, number of lightsources, number of on-screen characters/AI, texture quality and variety, color pallete, quality of depth of field, quality of per-object motion blur, SSAO, etc. This is of course based on current screenshots and trailer...
Looks amazing compared to other 360 games right now. Maybe on par with SC:Conviction. Definitely looks better than Halo Reach!
But I'll wait until I have played Alan Wake in person. From what I've seen so far, it does not reach U2 quality yet. If you have played U2, you know that game can have more than just one dynamic lightsource. In one stage, Drake, Sully and Chloe all have flashlights turned on. All three flashlights cast real-time shadows it's amazing.
I al...
Uncharted 2 can have as many as 3 dynamic lightsources at once. Drake, Sully and Chloe all have flashlights and all cast real-time shadows.
The only one carrying a flashlight in Alan Wake is Alan Wake! 3 dynamic lightsources is CLEARLY more impressive compared to just one.
Are you trying to be dense or something? Please go back and play HALO 3 and then tell me, do the environments CAST REALTIME SHADOWS OR NOT?
I don't care what Bungie PR says to fool Halo fanboys, in the copy of Halo 3 that I play on my 360, the environments do not cast real-time shadows. Fact.
This is what Halo 3 pre-baked shadows look like:
h...
You have no idea what you're talking about, do you? Does Halo 3 or Halo Reach environments cast real-time shadows? No. Those shadows are pre-baked, hence 'not real-time'. The only real-time shadows are from the character models. That's why the environments look lifeless. Same thing with Gears of War 2 and Mass Effect 2.
Unless Bungie is gonna magically turn those lifeless pre-baked lighting environments into full realtime lighting then no, Halo Reach is not gonna look better than KZ2.
Halo Reach environments have static pre-baked lighting. No realtime lights on the environments whatsoever! Same thing with other high-profile Xbox 360 games like Gears of War 2 and Mass Effect 2.
The xbox360 cannot handle the quality of lighting in KZ2. Fact.
You clearly never seen KZ2 with your own eyes! KZ2 has huge draw distances, if you ever played the desert multiplayer level you would know this.
Yep, Fallout 3 is a better RPG than ME2 IMHO. But ME2's stellar voice acting leaves Fallout 3 in the dust.
If Team Ico develops Last Guardian as an open world game ala SOTC then yes, I am certain the scale will be more epic than GOW3. IMHO.
