Mostly nice because it's one of the few reviews of a Japanese game that doesn't involve, at any level, the reviewer insulting the entire gaming industry, people or culture of Japan. Always nice.
I would have liked to have seen some more concrete information, though. Stuff like whether or not there's an INSTALL option (and whether or not it has an effect, whether it has dual audio, average gameplay length, multiple endings/etc.
The point essentially boils down to Layton games being good because of the quality of the characters and narrative being crafted.
This is touted as the 'future' for Japanese games.
The clear implication being that contemporary Japanese titles suffer from poor characters and narrative.
Which is strange, because for as long as I've been gaming--practically forever--the one thing that has stood out more than anything else comparing g...
Isn't the bigger news that it was announced to begin with? This is the first I've heard of it.
With a title like, 'how your genre can define you,' I expected to at least see an attempt at analysis... but this article is just pointing out the various stereotypes associated with each genre. Rather than defining 'you' it's more like a definition of 'them'--showing what kind of people we think play the kinds of games that we don't.
tl;dr: it's shallow and pointless and written solely to garner hits.
When I first heard about it, I thought it was gonna be Yakuza 5/the LAST game with Kiryu in it. Gotta say, though, Kiryu should have been dropped at Yakuza 3--it's getting old seeing him getting 'drawn back into the life' again and again and again.
As a spin-off, I have high hopes. The biggest problem with Zombie games, IMHO, is the poor quality of the narrative presented (which is true for the whole genre, really, be it gaming or cinema). The Yakuza team has a kn...
But considering this film is the recap film, you shouldn't need subs.
There are more than 2 routes. There's the main game, which has... 8 or 9 routes--one for each of the characters. Then there's After Story, which is a continuation of Nagisa's route. (Which is a shame, because IMHO, Nagisa's route was among the least interesting. Would have rather seen a follow up for Tomoyo or Kyou).
Anyway, I loved the PC game. Very well written and executed, even if the art was a bit off. Any word on whether or not they'll touch up the ...
Really? Where is this hype coming from? 12 years ago, I sure as hell didn't care one whit for Duke Nukem, and neither did any of my friends. And I care even less about it now. Who, exactly, is it that's so excited for this game? Who is it that's so in love with this franchise?
Because all I've ever seen are twits on the Internet ranting about how popular it is and how much we've ALL been anticipating it... and honestly, that seems further from the truth th...
Duke Nukem was stupid, tastelessly immature and utterly unappealing to me when I was ten years old. The fact that so many people (apparently) care so much for so low-brow a franchise--and for so long--boggles my mind.
Honestly, it's pathetic. And, I think, part of the reason why truly great games continue to be rarer and rarer things--gamers simply have terrible taste.
It's a bad game. We're talking really bad. Terrible environments, clunky controls, poor animation, and some of the worst camera work in recent years.
It's mostly selling based on the strength of the crossover titles. Gundam + Macross + Geass = SALES.
Well, you do have to admit that it IS the very first game to incorporate custom soundtracks properly.
PS3 is the best console for the discerning, discriminating consumer. It has been for... quite a while.
In terms of sales, I suppose the console war is still raging hard, but in terms of quality--both one the hard and soft side of things--the PS3 has been the clear winner for the past year or two.
...THE single most over-hyped "game you've never played" out there. Right up there with BG&E. People who write garbage like this really ought to at least branch out a bit, focus on some lesser known titles.
I mean, who here played Steambot Chronicles?
They don't usually announce games 'till about 6 months before release. Which means that by this time next year, odds are we'll be playing. Sooner, even, for those of us who import.
Our military has NEVER gotten along with Japan or the Japanese people. That whole giving child-rapists slaps on the wrists and refusing to publicly acknowledge or punish said child-rape doesn't tend to engender positive relationships.
If I were Sony, I'd want to piss off the US military, too. As a matter of course.
Not so much because of level-gaps, but rather because the core reason why MMOs don't appeal to me is that, currently, they're little more than time-sinks. If a game were to limit players to playing in smaller, shorter sessions... it would have to make those shorter sessions a LOT of fun.
Essentially, if done properly, it would mean a single hour of FFXIV would/should be much, much more fulfilling than many hours with any other MMO. how is that a bad thing?
Most games are built around the idea of being "fun," but MMO's are built around the idea of being "addictive"--and so are seldom fun.
But I normally only notice the reviews where, often it's evident the reviewer put very little time into the game, and gives the game a glowingly positive score. Remember all those great reviews Fable III got at release?
And then remember how we got the game, and played it to the end? Yikes.
Fallout 3 and DAO were similar in that respect.
And then there are the reviews where it seems that the reviewers didn't even bother to play the g...
Just because you say "Dragon Quest IX is good...." that's no excuse/justification for jumping on the JRPG-hate bandwagon.
The Top Gun games were bad. But, to be honest, there aren't a lot of air combat games period. Ace Combat is one of the best franchises in gaming, and the IL-2 console game was pretty damn good.
This is a question no one with half a brain should ever have to even ask.
I guess they think you're lying...? I don't get it. Nothing you've said is subjective. To the best of my knowledge, Atelier Rorona is the ONLY 'old school' (dragon quest-style) RPG on the PS3. And I've no reason to doubt that your PS3 YLOD'd.
Since there's nothing subjective in the post, there's nothing to either agree with or disagree with. Someone, please, explain this to me. (*waits for someone to disagree with this post*)
