I don't get why March is always such a huge month for releases.

Hell, I've got Yakuza 4, Ar Tonelico 3, Okamiden, Shogun 2, and maybe even Dragon Age 2 on my plate. It's crazy.

Right. Just assume the only way anyone could ever possibly disagree with you is because they're LYING.

Goddamn are you two retarded sons of bitches.

Wow.

Guess that makes the ratio of Move Hardware to move games decent enough to buy about 4,000,000 to 0.

...it's shameful how few gamers know what "RPG" even means.

There are TWO and only TWO requirements for a game to be an RPG.

1. The player must assume a role in the game--this means you control an avatar, opposed to a space ship, or a mouse pointer. You have an identity.

2. The player must grow. This can be done via leveling up, learning new abilities, etc., etc.

That's it. RPG is not really a genre at all.....

...the realities of war?

This is about North Korea, a country that can't even afford to feed its own people, mustering the sufficient manpower and resources to mount a full invasion of another country... on the other side of the planet.

And we're expected that the details of the game will be realistic? Really?

How dare these game companies make such offensive games, and then force mothers around the country to buy them for their 7 year old children.

The fact that Witcher 1 was built on Aurora... that fact alone has convinced me that CD Projekt Red is the single most competent, talented development team the gaming industry has EVER seen.

Aurora was just an awful, buggy, poorly-coded mess.

Here's my retrospective:

-Terrible main campaign
-Great gameplay
-Poor class variety
-Poor race variety
-Poor weapon variety
-Poor armor variety
-Poor enemy variety
-Poor spell/ability variety
-Awful morality system (rude=evil, polite=good)
-Worst narrative structer in a game in 15+ years
-Horridly cliched, unispired setting
-really ugly textures
-Ugly animation
-Final ...

Okamiden has a demo? Cool.

AS for DA2... I don't think anyone (any discerning one) would ever hold it up as the golden standard for demos.

Americans are used to seeing everything in black-and-white.

Us versus them.

Captialism versus Communism.
America versus Hitler.
Glorious Freedom versus Islam.

It's sad and wrong and an outdated mode of thought, but it's still very prevalent, and shooters in general are a very jingoistic genre that serves to reinforce those modes of thought.

Of course, this whole moral absolutism isn't found solely ...

I love how no one ever dares to break the unwritten role: "Never criticize top-level developers for crappy storytelling."

Starcrat II's campaign was just as half-assed and shallow as Dragon Age, but apparently Blizzard and Bethesda are both beyond reproach.

Seriously?

Dragon Age was a hopelessly generic game. It's easily the most forgettable RPG I've seen in a very, very long time.

@snipes101:

That's not a contradiction. That one, small part of the game was very well made. The rest of the game, however, flew off in the opposite direction. It's important to realize that even the most mediocre of games can occasionally have something of merit hidden within.

- The game apparently looks amazing in motion, with great environment effects such as the wind making the water swirl and making waves.

But what about character and monster animation? Those are typically awful in Bethesda games. Personally, I'm more keen on magic. Most RPGs these days have awful magic effects (Dragon Age leaps to mind here). I'd llike to see some impressive magic VFX for once.

Generally speaking, I think it's an awful idea to give any weapon homing abilities if it doesn't realistically do so. Anyone else remember the "bendy" lasers in Mechassault? Ulgh. This sounds just stupid. Terribly, terribly stupid.

- Some, apparently unique, enchanted weapons will have “concealed” effects. You won’t know what those ...

Agreed.

In general, any game that relies on a Japanese literacy in order to enjoy (read: every good RPG ever) should be exempt from lists of this sort, along with games with inevitable overseas localizations.

Honestly, the only must-import games I've seen that aren't niche titles this generation (like Gundam Senki and Gundam Battle Universe) have been Hatsune Miku PSP (best rhythym game I've ever seen), Yakuza Kenzan and Clannad, the latter two re...

I didn't realize there were so many.

I don't think I've ~ever~ played a zombie game I thought was worthwhile, let alone good.

I heard it was recalled almost immediately after it shipped because they didn't do ANY Q/A work for the English-language version, and the audio was buggy as hell.
