...because it's a game from several years ago... and it's been massively hyped up. That's like saying Final Fantasy XIII was an overlooked/underrated game: hugely popular and successful franchises don't work that way!
But, who knows, maybe P3P is radically different than P3 or FES. If it were on the DS, I'd totally buy it, but it ain't worth dusting off my old PSP for.
First screens I've seen. Gotta say, I'm impressed. I'm really looking forward to this game. With the exception of the Witcher, all of the traditional ("high") fantasy games of the past decade or so (since ToB) have made me think that Japan handles the genre better. More variety, more customization, and overall better writing and pacing. I'm really looking forward to how DS3 turns out.
Gotta say, I'm looking forward to it a lot more than Diablo 3....
Huge News!!!! = Not really news at all--and certainly not huge.
Sony and their cronies have been spouting crap like this for years, and every single time the announcement has been, at best, underwhelming. When will you guys learn?
If nothing else, Creative Assembly has shown remarkable quality in past games. They clearly have an eye for historical accuracy and bug-free releases. :P
More a testament to the low-quality of characters we've seen this gen than anything else. As well as the limited variety of games the writer plays.
Nothing to see here, folks. No opinion, no news, just a rehash of the same information we've had since E3.
And I don't intend to go for either the Move or Kinect. I see this whole move, by both Sony and Microsoft, as rather pathetic. Controllers are superior! Efficiency, people! It matters!
I'd rather save up for an Ipad. Because if there's one gimmick I can really get behing, one gimmick I can REALLY endorse, it's TOUCH.
But allow me to present a counter-argument: we're not always teenagers. We grow up. We go to college. We get jobs. We have friends. We quickly lose the time we once had to play games. No more all-night sessions of Soul Reaver 2 the day before a math exam for me!
Auto-saves save time. They allow older gamers to bypass a lot of the raw tedium that games employ to draw-out the amount of time a player is playing, or to make the game "addictive." In a game without au...
It'll always be a PC-game for me. I just hope they put more effort into the narrative this time around, and add some variety--to every aspect of the game.
Heavy Rain was far from the first attempt at interactive fiction. It's certainly the most high-profile interactive narrative out there, and certainly boasts the largest budget... but it's far from the first, and even further from the best.
What's amazing is that people who go on and on about how great Heavy Rain is are the same people who play games like Halo, Gears of War and Alan Wake, but never bother to delve deeper into the genre. People who assume that, if t...
Ever since the game's release, the chief criticism has been "look at all these plot-holes!" And the chief defense has been, "lolno, they're not really plot holes at all!"
Because, you know, the narrative quality and structure are both so utterly FLAWLESS. Honestly, the only game this gen that's handled storytelling worse than Heavy Rain was Dragon Age, and even then, we're splitting hairs.
This is one of the worst reviews I've ever read--and I've read some stinkers.
The "choices" in DA:O were all extremely superficial. First, Bioware needs to focus on crafting a strong central narrative. Giving the player choices (and consequences! Everyone always forgets consequences!) is secondary to that.
I would point to The Witcher as a perfect example of WRPGs done right. (In terms of narrative... God knows, the gameplay and GUI were both far from perfect).
I mean, unless it's the FFVII remake and all their statements saying "no." that's certainly had a lot of hype/teasing, but it's been going on for a bit longer than a year. Versus XIII maybe?
It can't be DQX, because that's already announced (for the Wii, of all things). Maybe they're making DQX multi-platform? Perhaps a PSN port, or a whole new version ala The Force Unleashed. That could be pretty cool.
How does this stuff even work? Ya' gotta hook up the game cart to a PC, or is this "patch" only for pirated roms?
Good god. They're utterly pointless. The only thing trophies have done is to obliterate cheating, depriving gamers everywhere of a lot of fun. Remember the cardboard tube sword cheat in Legacy of Kain: Defiance? Fun stuff like that is dead and it sucks.
All so some sheep can hear a stupid little noise every once in a while. Goddammit.
I don't know anyone who wants 3D games, or 3D movies. I don't even know anyone that likes 3D, or is even remotely intrigued by it. But the mass media and television companies seem intent on insistent that everyone in the world is just SOOO excited about it.
Why? Because now that everyone's upgraded to an HDTV, television sales are starting to decline--you know, to normal rates. So, naturally--BUY A NEW TV RIGHT NOW!
They're certainly trying quite hard, considering how universally-reviled the first game was.
It really, really sucks.
Had it pre-ordered on Amazon for several weeks, go to check the status today and it says the expected ship date is in two weeks. The hell? That ain't cool. Hopefully a store in-town will get it this week.
It'd make a great PSN game....
