A major problem with Microsoft is that since Sea of Thieves is receiving intense criticism the chances of the company's executives continuing to pump money into it are slim. Microsoft tends to cut losses and move on rather than risk losing even more on a venture like this game. Sucks, because it is a great concept—but, then again, so was Stormlands, Scalebound and Fable Legends.
Me too. Trying not to think about it too much.
@MadMax
Thanks for the thorough recap. Draw distance is one of my main complaints with some games—especially driving games.
Fishing, ay? What about blackjack or poker?
Nice setup. I'll be playing on a Pro as well—for the television I'm on an LG OLED C7 55". Just coming off of a couple months playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so my 'palate' is somewhat spoiled.
Been craving a good game of Magic the Gathering since getting hooked on Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Hope this comes to PlayStation 4—and I hope expansion packs don't cast too much.
Bold statement for one day of play, but I am glad it's that convincing.
How's the graphics compare to something like Battlefield 1 or Destiny 2?
Thank you, sir. 🎩
At least Rare is taking this tumultuous time to fix the server issue, I suppose.
That score and main paragraph above PERFECTLY describes exactly and succinctly the crux of the situation. No reason to be upset about it.
In other news: Far Cry 5 in four more days! Blue skies ahead.
I laughed. Thought about how it's possible to go loony from repetition. Like going snow blind or drops of water on the forehead for hours upon end. So, yeah, probably fun—but only because you start to hallucinate from being bored blind.
What confuses me is that eighty-to--ninety percent of the users on N4G agree that this game is a disappointment, but we get flagged and restricted for defending that point-of-view—yes, sometimes those opinions are passionate.
Agreed, sometimes that passion escalates into an intense debate, feelings get hurt and patience tested, but to censor the majority will only result in resentment and distrust.
Being allowed to speak our mind is one of the things that...
Plea of Reprieves : Why Sites Named XBOX Enthusiast Shouldn't Write Articles Titled "Why Early Reviews of Sea of Thieves Aren’t Accurate"
Strong soundtrack from the sounds of it.
MX vs ATV used to be huge. Seems like the pinnacle of off-road racing hit with Motorstorm in the early days of the PlayStation 3. But, by the looks of the barren terrain in this video funding is tight on today's dirt-dash derbies.
Would love to see a reboot of Motorstorm, though. Could rejuvenate the entire genre.
Even though there are many glaring similarities between No Man's Sky and Sea of Thieves' there is one preeminent difference: No Man's Sky only had like ten programmers. How many does Rare have? Something like two hundred?
Despite all the negativity swarming the release of this game there is a silver-lining. Fiascos like this hold publishers' and developers' feet to the fire. Plus, companies that don't live up to the evolving expectations of the gamin...
If you are objectively enjoying it, good deal. There's nothing wrong with liking something regardless if the majority doesn't.
The problem is that many Sea of Thieves' gamers seem to be letting their pride decide if they like the game or not. And, rather than admit to being wrong about the game being inadequate they have actually fooled themselves into liking it. Its something everyone's done at one-time-or-another.
Hey, I think the same thing, AspiringProGenji. If you are eating a bad fish you don't need to pick its bones clean to know it tastes like rot.
Point I was making is that taking longer to review and giving it better-than-average score is a good excuse—though nothing more than a gross manipulation—to claim that that score is more revelant than the early bad review scores. Madhouse02 inadvertantly helped me make that point.
Seems IGN and GameSpot are purposely taking longer to give a review. Will probably smack a higher-than-average score with the excuse the reviewers got to experience more of the game. Either that or GS and IGN are just being drama queens to attract more attention.
No.
In four more days this game is going to take an even bigger hit in active gamers due to Far Cry 5.
All angst aside: Best thing someone who deeply wants to like this game should do is wait. Give Rare a couple of months to at add some semblance of direction and provocative content—and the inevitable price drop.
I did a report on Tencent and mobile gaming in 'fourteen. The thing that stuck out the most was its gaming division's mobile development interest—specifically smartphones.
I'd have to look up the numbers but I'm thinking it was something like ninety-eight percent of Chinese smartphone users engage in mobile gaming. Of course, this was just after China lifted the ban on console gaming—not that it enforced the policy too strictly when it was against the law—s...
This is precisely correct, SegaGamer—thanks for pointing it out.
Life happens. More times than not schedules don't line up, game interest changes, kids, wives, girlfriends, work, other hobbies [gasp!]. That's why it's vital that an online game be fun rather being played with friends or someone from the opposite side of the world who may or may not speak your language.
