This a problem any long running series faces; as you creatr sequel after sequel the stream of ideas, features and improvements for each game slow down. They've tweaked the formula to the point where there is little they can change now.
Perhaps giving the series a break for two years would help get the developers feeling happier about the series and give gamers time to breath as they seem to be getting fed up of having a COD title hitting every single year.
Very, very enjoyable read. I do find it odd that so many people view an 8/10 as some sort of terrible score reserved for games that the Devil himself created using a crayon, some tape and a big hammer.
I've been flamed before for giving games fairly low scores.
The only point I might argue in this article is that most sites don't claim a 10/10 is a "perfect" score. I sure as hell don't say a 10/10 score is perfect, it just means it...
You read it while your driving? Sweet Jesus you're a menace to other road users :D lol
I still read game manuals! When I'm coming home on the train after a trip to GAME!
Yup, saying "shipped" is the oldest trick in the book to help make it sound as though your game has sold more than it actually has. The amount of people that believe "shipped" means "sold" is quite astounding.
I disagree with not putting art-books in the packages. I love a good art book! Of course most companies make terrible ones that show 50-pages of completed work. Give me the beautiful hardbound book from Bioshock 2 and I'll give you eternal love lol. I like to see sketches and get a sense of the art designs progression.
Indeed, they do.
My view is that a 2-year dev cycle stops the game becoming over-saturated, a problem that Call of Duty has been encountering lately with a game coming out ever year. People begin to tire of the constant stream. Of course, Call of duty has a two year dev cycle and still releases a game every year, which means it still feels over-saturated compared to the Battlefield or even Halo series
This doesn't surprise me in the slightest, although I hope that now the game is shipping she might get around to completing it before writing the next Gears book
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Still, a staggering achievement.
Considering it's the most pre-ordered game in the Xbox's history I'm pretty sure you're going to be right :)
Got home a few hours ago to find a code from Sega for this game waiting for me in my inbox. I'm looking forward to giving it a blast tomorrow! I need something to keep me occupied until Gears :D
You raise good points, mate. The main reason I went for it is due to the end of the story more than gameplay terms. And from what I've played, I'm confident it's going to be a pretty badass ending :)
I will argue that Pirates was never supposed to be a trilogy, though :D
Perfect? There's no such thing ;)
But I maintain hope that a bloody good game movie will one day be delivered to the big screen. I hope that movie is Mass Effect :D
Exactly, it'll be nice to play a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, and instead lets me driver a hover bike down the street. It's like GTA: San Andreas, but more mental.
Agreed. Any game that lets me shoot innocent civilians out of a cannon is alright in my books.
Damn good preview :D
I'm not actually sure whether I should be saddened by this or impressed :O
That's dedication to Gears, but.... a week?! Really?
And I am one of those many many people who pre-ordered it. *sniff* I'm proud to be one of those little stats lol
Agreed. A fifty second video that tells us absolutely nothing is just a waste. Hell, he didn't even sound that interested in the game or the vide.
I've been keeping my eyes on Binary Domain for a while. It looks interesting and plays quite well, though I wouldn't call it a Gears beater in terms of how it plays.
