So, the fact that he says he played the first DMC game doesn't mean much, then?
And frankly, what's wrong with viewing it from a newcomers perspective? It's a reboot and it's clearly aimed at attracting a new audience, hence Capcom saying if they'd wanted just another game that was the same they'd have made it themselves.
I miss DMC, but to be honest I've had 4 games from it, so I'm up for something a bit different.
I've been playing since Friday and I'm having a blast with it. Hats off to Ninja Theory from me, they've done a good job on this, and that's coming from a DMC fan.
Combat isn't as deep or fast, but still a lot of fun and the graphical style is outstanding. I even quite like the new Dante, mostly because of the voice actor who sells the character pretty well.
Swearing needs to be toned down a bit. Sometimes it's fine, other times it...
As a DMC fan, I personally say pick it up. I've been playing since Friday and having a blast with it. Yeah, combat is a bit slower and not as deep, but it's still satisfying and fun. The artistic style is beautiful, and I also found myself quite liking the new Dante as well.
Go into it with an open mind and a willingness to judge it more on its own merits and you'll have a blast, or so I feel.
Yeah, but it would probably have just been accused of being a DMC copycat, then.
I think it'll just turn out be an okay action-adventure title. I don't think it will fail in the sales sense as its attracting a hell of a lot of attention, so people will likely pick it up just to see.
And overrated is such a subjective thing I'm not even going to go near it :D
I reckon it'll just be okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Worth picking up when it's cheaper or if you're into the more cinematic style of gaming
Bethesda, by saying that they clearly have a new franchise on their hands.
Hmm, I wouldn't say horrible, considering the exact context.
The market slid a large amount this year, and those numbers are accounting the US sales only, not worldwide. It also doesn't mention if that's including a hazard at how many digital sales there were.
Also throw in the competition at the time.
850k isn't stellar and the game deserved more, but frankly, it's not terrible, either.
Now Reckoning earl...
My question is...how the hell did he get his job as bodyguard? How'd he even get through the interview?
"so, what were your previous jobs, Mr. Corvo?"
Silence.
"Okay. Any skills we should know about?"
*Slashes throat of nearest guard*
"Well, that was rather uncalled for."
Silence.
And yet he must have spoken at somepoint. Lots of people seem to have a very clear idea of who he is, so su...
I don't think it needed to be more complex, just better told. Complex stories are actually fairly easy, but telling a simple story extremely well is very challenging. I'd rather see a well told simple tale than a complex one.
Mind you, a well told complex tale would also be good :)
I don't think there's anything wrong with a conversation about games inspiring each other, it's just a shame when people become overly defensive about it. It's no insult to the games to say they drew inspiration from somewhere else :D
They've both been amazing franchises, impacting the industry in different ways. Here's hoping the new Tomb Raider turns out great.
I never said Uncharted copied it or played like it, I said it was partially inspired by Tomb Raider, in the sense of feeling of exploration Tomb Raider invoked in me. Drake comes across as a Lara Croft, Indiana Jones style character, which is in no means bad.
As you say, TR didn't invent that style of gameplay, and neither did Uncharted invent its style of gameplay, either. There's nothing wrong with game developers drawing off one another so long as they don't ju...
@VileAndVicious
Peter Parker is only dead in the Ultimate universe, though, mate. He's still alive and kicking arse in the main Marvel 'verse :D
Agreed. It did well, got a lot of high reviews and won over a lot of gamers, including many of those who were apprehensive after Far Cry 2.
Uncharted was heavily inspired by the likes of Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones in the first place. I'm not using that as an excuse, but it's important to understand the heritage of a game.
The new Tomb Raider is going down the Uncharted path of being, to borrow the phrase, an 'experience', so it's like it has come full circle really.
Gabe also stated that if users want to install windows, they can.
"We’ll come out with our own and we’ll sell it to consumers by ourselves. That’ll be a Linux box, [and] if you want to install Windows you can. We’re not going to make it hard. This is not some locked box by any stretch of the imagination"
Exactly how do you see them as having butchered the series? And this isn't some sarcastic question, I'm genuinely interested in your view.
To me, as a reboot it's supposed to be wildly different while keeping alive the core of the series, which I view as the combat. The combat is largely the same as the original DMC back in 2001, except a bit slower and easier to allow for a new audience to get into the game, so I feel they've kept the core intact.
<...
lol, I love that line.
It'd certainly be interesting. My concern, though, is that would an MMO actually capture anything about the show? It was the characters, writing and acting that made the show special, not the setting, so just making an MMO set in the universe probably won't mean much.
Now, if it was officially licensed with all the old crew coming back and Joss Whedon on writing duties... :P
I'd rather not jump to the instant conclusion that either of them will be worthy of the metaphorical crown, not that you can really declare certain games better than others unless you're going purely by sales.
They don't come out for a while yet and we know almost zilch about either of them. At the moment I'm still hoping GTA5 finds its fun again, otherwise there's a strong chance it won't be one of my better games of the year. As for Watch Dogs, it...
In regards to the last part of your reply, having justifiable reasons for not liking it is completely valid! The only thing that bothers me a little is when people don't like it because it's different from the past games, which is sort of the point of a reboot.
If you've played it and you dislike it, fair enough, mate!
Touching upon Capcom and NT being arrogant for still making it, the way I tend to view it is it's their game, they can do...
Everybody has a different view on what a reboot should be, so I think that's a big sticking point.
To me, it needs to keep the core of the franchise, but after that it's fair game. I've been playing since Friday now, and while the combat is a bit slower and not quite as deep, it still feels like it's staying true to the franchise.
Everything else around it has been great. I like the new Dante thanks to the voice actor, and the platforming ...
