Exactly. I read reviews of games I've already played simply to read other peoples points of view, making me think about the game in different ways.
First, thanks for the compliment, glad you enjoyed reading it.
Yeah, that's a big mistake I made. I always had my super squad, but forgot to swap some of them out for some rookies so that I could build a stronger troop foundation, because anytime my super squad got hit hard I'd just be left with relative rookies to hold the line until my big boys got healed up.
Tyrone McHuge and Butch Maneater? Likin' the names, there :D
Aye, can't tell you how many times my sniper has saved my bacon at the last second with a well placed shot between the eyes.
I've never even played EVE and this is still awesome!
Just to try and start of a fun discussion rather than the usual arguments we seem to get, has anybody got any cool war stories from XCOM: Enemy Unknown?
My proudest came when one of my guys was being pressed by a big 'ol beserker inside a UFO. He was going to get demolished, and I only had moves left for my sniper and my heavy, both of whom were a good bit away. So, I got my heavy to take out his RPG and blast a hole in the side of the UFO, thus giving my sniper a clean s...
I had an absolute blast with Bulletstorm. It was an over-the-top blastathon that just wanted me to have fun, something I was more than happy to do.
However, I did feel like it was a game that sometimes felt trapped between two worlds, between wanting to be a balls-out old-schoold shooter, and having to try and fit in with the modern shooters. It felt like I should be strafing, running and gunning, yet stepping outside of cover for too long was often a mistake. Regenerating he...
The multiplayer co-op in Mass Effect 3 was a most pleasant surprise for me, and kept me playing for a while. Like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, everyone was keen to judge the game's multiplayer offering without actually have any solid idea of what it would be like.
That's why I'm careful not to leap on the Tomb Raider bandwagog: I'd rather wait and see how it turns out, because so far two games that people said should never have multiplayer have turned ou...
I've not really touched the game as I'm waiting for the standalone release, but I love the concept.
Hopefully the game makes it onto consoles as well, where I imagine it would also find success.
His logic isn't flawed, his opinion is just different. There's really no set definition on what a reboot should do. He clearly has a different view of it than you do.
For example, some people view a reboot as a way of attracting new players and fans, in which case DmC fits the bill with its toned down difficulty.
Others might view a reboot as a simple retelling of the series origins while keeping the gameplay intact. Others still might view a rebo...
The new Dante's personality is definately splitting opinions. Personally, I actually really liked him. Not at first, but as the game progressed the voice actor sold the character for me.
I honestly ended up liking him more than the old Dante, which surprised me quite a bit!
Quite honestly, I never actually used to like Angry Joe all that much, something just irked me about his reviews. But over the past year as I've been looking to try and improve my writing and find different angles to view aspects of games from I've come to have far more appreciation for the stuff he does.
Hats off on what I felt to be a fair review, here.
Well, that's a tad harsh.
What's your problem with the games? Personally I thought 2 was the best in the series in terms of the story and characters, while 3 claims the best combat gameplay and I'd even hazard the best levelling up options in the series.
I didn't have time to read the article, but yes, I think we are killing it. These days you're not allowed to have an opinion on the internet that goes against the herd, and that's a shame.
IN particuilar, amongst the gaming "community", I've noticed that there's tolerence for people's opinions.
He has a point. As much as I love DMC the writing and storylines have always been B-grade movie. Nothing wrong with that as it's a lot of fun, but the new DmC is considerably better in these areas.
The storyline simplistic, but quite well told apart from some rought dialogue here and there. The new Dante has a considerably deeper personality, and I found myself liking him quite a lot.
Vergil and Kat needed more screetime, though, as they felt underdev...
Agreed. I'd also like to see a return to the more open assassinations of the first game rather than the heavily linear design seen in AC3. There's nothing wrong with linearity, but I certain prefered the more open style of the game.
Also, can we get back to actually stabbing people? Again, in the past games everything you did was just working up to the next big assassination, but in ACIII I seemed to do very little of actually assassination people. Mostly I just fe...
I'm in agreement that linear is not a dirty word. Like free-roaming games, there's a place for linear games as well. Each style has its own strengths and weaknesses. When I played Call of Duty I don't class its linearity as a negative, because it's trying to be linear, that's the style it's going for because, as the article says, it's a Micheal Bay type of game, a rollercoaster ride.
I'm in agreement that I've actually ended up really liking the new Dante, partially because of the voice actor who sells the character well.
He's cocky, arrogant, over the top and surprisingly likable.
Agreed. I'd like to see the series continue as I feel it has plenty of room to grow. Darksiders II was one of my favorite games from last year, and I'd hate to see if simply vanish.
Whether it's a waste of money or not really depends on whether you think the contents were worth your cash. Most of the ones I've bought over the years have brought a smile to my face, and I enjoy having them, so they've been worth the money I spent on them.
A good collectors edition can be a great thing for a fan, but there are a lot of poor ones out there.
Well, it's certainly working. This article is generating hits fast!
On one hand, hats off for jumping on the this so damn quickly, and on the other hand absolutely zero hats off for writing a pretty bloody pointless article.
