1) Every company "lies" about its products in comparison to competitors. Why do I say "lies," thats simple, every time specs and features have been announced for essentially any piece of hardware in decades it has been accompanied with a disclaimer stating that these specs could change before the actual release of the product. This disclaimer is standard and is essentially assumed at this point. You have to consider that each piece of hardwa...

That is definitely a blemish, though the reports of severe problems have actually been very few and far between. The incidence rate of the the minor problems has been the actual cause of the recall. I would say more than likely though that the root-kit was a larger blemish in terms of global image. Especially with the continually increasing number of people concerned over computer security these days.

In general, Pioneer and Phillips, while providing a decent picture, don't provide one that is as good as the Sony TV's. Even Samsung is at least a little behind in terms of picture quality. You can see this going into just about any Best Buy or Circuit City, hell even Walmart has displays that can show you that much. Westinghouse however does provide a competitive picture. Granted, even considering all this, I would say that the increae in price is necessarilly justified.

Some of their proprietary formats have been better than competitors from a technical standpoint. ATRAC3 is their format that is similar to MP3 and personally, I thought it sounded better more often than not. Though by default it did have a slightly higher sample rate. Though I do have to point out that Blu-Ray is not at all a proprietary format. HD-DVD is actually more of a proprietary format than Blu-Ray is considering the number of companies that have had a role in Blu-Ray's design, manufac...

I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. This is not just Visual Concepts saying this, this is also commentary from 1up and IGN. There also ARE features that will be included in the PS3 version that simply are not present in the 360 version, this has been confirmed by more than just Visual Concepts. Honestly though, I don't understand why all of this is so hard for you to believe. Other's have made arguments about length of time possessing final dev kits and such, I don't want to get i...

bladestar, while I agree that proof would be great, is the dripping sarcasm really necessary. You've claimed in the past to be unbiased in all of this, but your every post seems to indicate otherwise (I'm not at all trying to claim that I'm not bias here) Simply put all of this is drastically uninformed. No one knows one way or the other except those working on it at Sony, and since they are keeping their mouths shut on the topic, why not just wait to see, its not like anything anyone here sa...

Cell is the product of a collaboration between Sony, IBM, and Toshiba and in addition, Sony has been involved with online gaming for many many years, its not like its completely new to them. They have numerous persistent online games. Admittedly, more goes into creating a central hub such as Live, but the extension is fairly logical and not necessarily that complex compared to some other aspects. Give Sony a chance with it, If they really have committed to making their online play better, man...

You do have a point in that laptop drives are more expensive, but in general the price is still decreasing, and particularly at a quicker rate for the "smaller" drives, meaning those under 100 GB. based on this, the effect is more or less the same either way.

Simply put Top Gamer, you've been wrong, and you've been wrong numerous times. The sites that you have linked in the past are typically very old, very out of date, and in addition to that admittedly bias. You simply can't put up a response from Microsoft and expect people to take it seriously. To put it in perspective, how would you feel about a response presented by Sony. You'd say they were lying about everything and horribly bias. When it comes to hardware comparisons, you cannot take the...

For the most part I agree with you, though online is not the biggest deal to me. I prefer to either play games on my own or with my friends in person, because its just that much mroe fun to have my friends right there with me.

Many of the games shown for PS3 at TGS were playable, that means gameplay and many of them looked noticably better than most of what the 360 has offerreed to date. This is backed up on numerous sites with links strewn across this very website...

I will tell you this, if those spec WEREN'T lies than the 360 would be producing graphics many times better than what is available on ANY consumer PC today, and obviously that is not the case...

Anyone that honestly believed that PS3 games were going to cost significantly more than 360 games was deluding themselves. Its one thing to have more expensive hardware, but when the games are fairly similar, bringing the game costs up would have been suicidal.

Microsoft lost a fortune on the original XBox because they didn't control the hardware, though realistically they still have little control over it. But back to the point, hard drives cost relatively little even at the 60 GB volumes. Think about how much you would spend on one if you were to go into your local Best Buy, and then consider the fact that as a manufacturer Sony pays drastically less. Add to that the fact that hard drive costs are continuously decreasing and the fact of the matter...

I was definitely surprised as well to hear so little about Sony's online plans, its definitely something that they are going to need to perform well with in this generation of consoles. I will give them a chance though, even if the service is delayed from the launch. For anyone who decides to jump all over that possibility, remember that XBox Live was not ready for the original XBox launch either.

Actually, only a "foolish fanboy" would make the comment you jsut did. I'll grant you that Gears of War, graphically, looks better than anything PS2 has coming out at launch, but far and away most of the PS3 launch titles are at least the equal of any of the 360 games out there graphically. I'm not going to make any statements about gameplay as I have very little experience playing 360 and obviously none playing PS3, but graphically PS3 stands up VERY well to the 360 and judging by ...

You are quite wrong in a few things here. First off, PC games can be up and running completely without Microsoft. I can run any Windows game on my Linux machine without any problem, well to the same degree I would be able to on my Windows install. Some of them even perform better on my Linux machine. In addition, just because Microsoft is entering the MP3 player scape doesn't mean they will be able to take it over, its quite possible that they'll have less market share than SanDisc and Creati...

I'm not sure I'd agree there, the PS2 still sold, and still sold well, before hitting the $200 mark. In fact month for month it still had better sales that the XBox or GameCube, aside from their launch month I believe. But you are right about it really taking off in sales once it hit that lower price point.
