To be fair, Blu-Ray has more potential than HD-DVD from a technical perspective. From a cost perspective, right now HD-DVD is the clear winner, but that is also due in part to the huge subsidizing that Toshiba is doing. Blu-Ray can use the same codecs as HD-DVD and so once the dual layer discs come out it stands to reason Blu-Ray would have at least equal image quality, potentially better.

This is a pointless topic. Some of the PS3 fans are jumping on this as proof positive while the 360 fans jump all over the fact that its a PS3 developer. Funny because I often see things going the other way, some of the 360 fans quoting 360 developers and hailing that as proof positive while PS3 fans cry foul just as is done here...

I'll just point out that delays occur in many hardware launches as well...how often do you hear about ATI, NVidia, Intel or AMD delaying a product launch. Or Motorola or any other hardware manufacturer. It happens, anyone surprised by it is clueless.

Microsoft is a software company yes, and Sony is a hardware company. They can reduce costs quicker than Microsoft can easily. you will see the PS3 below $250 before the following generation of consoles...

Sony has been in online gaming for quite a while, is it really that hard to comprehend that they could take their lessons from the PC side and carry them over to the PS3? Removing the Blu-Ray drive at this point would be a mistake as they've built a fair amount of hype up over that and would be sending a bad message about the format if they removed it now. Considering their position in the consortium that isn't going to happen. Canceling the entire thing would a mistake of gigantic proportion...

DC rider 360, is that statement really necessary/ It has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread. If you feel the need to mention this opinion of yours, mention it on a thread relating to the performance of the PS3. This is not the proper local to go about this...

The PS3 does have complex circuitry, I never claimed it didn't. However we aren't referring to the entire PS3 here are we, we're referring to the Cell processor within it, a good chunk of complex circuitry all its own. In addition we are referring to different uses here as well. We're talking about a CAB card for workstations that will never touch a consumer PC unless said consumer has way too much money on their hands. The complex circuitry I'm referring to is circuitry that will allow the x...

They aren't going to put in a variety of different frequency chips, to suggest otherwise is idiocy. Whatever they go with, it will be one frequency. I hope you honestly don't believe that it costs over $6000 for a single 3.2 Ghz. cell processor. The fact of the matter is that these add on cards are always expensive and never aimed at consumer use. In addition they don't simply throw a cell processor onto the card and stick the card on the computer, it doesn't work that way. Complex circuitry...

The reason a console's full potential is NEVER used, and I repeat NEVER as neither the Xbox, PS2 Nor Gamecube ever used their full potential, has nothing to do with power consumption. It is simply a matter of never being able to fully optimize code for any architecture

Very true, however, this article says nothing about gaming applications of the Cell. It simply states that the scientific community can make use of the cell. That does not at all imply that its better for the scientific community than a game console.

The article also lists final product for this card at 3.2 Ghz. perfectly in line with what Sony has stated the PS3 will run at

The cell won't be able to break into the consumer market outside of the PS3 until after they are able to significantly lower manufacturing costs. With this expansion card currently running at $8000 nothing like this will make it into even high end PC's in quite a while. Not that that price has anything to do with Sony however...I find it hard to believe that Mercury can justify such a high cost as clearly Cell doesn't cost nearly that much to manufacture

Microsoft will not have anything near a 10-12 million unit lead by the end of the year. To say that you'd be assuming that not a single PS3 is sold this year. Microsoft isn't even claiming that, they claim that they'll have 10 million units in the channel by the time PS3 launches. However, it should not be hard to admit at all that, at least initially, the PS3 is going to sell at a quicker rate than the 360 as brand new, competing, products tend to. The only question is how quickly Sony can g...

The 20 GB model has the logo in black and the 60 GB model has the same logo, only in silver. The reason for this is just to mark a difference between the two units visually, you'll also notice other silver accents on the 60 GB model.

Initially the PS3 will sell to loyalists of the playstation brand, but once the price starts to come down, and everyone has to admit this will happen, then the console will begin to sell better with the average and new gamers. Considering the huge brand loyalty, this gives the PS3 somewhat of an advantage. The Wii will sell to anyone looking for a fun game console, but if the control scheme ends up being no more than a gimmick, which remains to be seen until its finally released, word of mout...

Personally, while I do go to ign.com occasionally, I've found many of their reviews overtly bias or largely subjective. Gamespot tends to provide a less bias, more objective review in my opinion.
