Sony physically can't drop the price to $200...I don't even know where to begin on that statement. First off, there is nothing preventing them from coming out and saying, "PS3 will cost $1" except for the fact that the loss would be gigantic. To claim that as a physical impediment...I don't know...Sony will lose more than Microsoft per unit initially, but considering some the advanced processes for cost reduction that Sony possess and Microsoft doesn't, that could change in the futu...

Realistically, at least for the moment it doesn't make much sense for them to drop the price of the lower model here in the United States. Relatively little of the consoles sold here are going to be the lower 20 GB model, and they, rightly, have no fear of selling out every console sent here in the initial shipment. It would be ridiculous for anyone to claim they won't sell out. No matter what argument you try to present, you have to admit that there are at least 400,000 Sony fans in the US t...

There have been preorders, Toys R' Us as well as a few other places has PS3 preorders about a year ago.

Actually, the area that needs to see gains first and foremost is the memory sector, the pace at which processor performance has been increasing drastically outstrips that of memory. This "breakthrough" is really secondary to the need for better performance gains in memory...

These pictures are pure garbage...but then at the same time it appears that the images may have been taken at a lower resolution and then stretched larger, introducing tons of jaggies that may not have been there otherwise. Something just doesn't appear right to me about everything being fairly low resolution other than the player 1 and 2 symbols in the lower corners of the screen...

Just a heads up for people curious how the weapons are going to translate to multiplayer. It has been stated on a number of sites that Insomniac is rebalancing each weapon for multiplayer so that none is over powering and each has a specific strengths and weaknesses and therefore counters. Considering Insomniacs reputation for interesting weapon creation I wouldn't doubt that they will succeed.

TheMart, I agree with you...Thought I may never say that, but there it is...HyperBear you don't know any of the technical details so don't assume you do. NOTHING that is listed in technical sheets of any kind is entirely understandable without the technical knowledge to back it up. I can tell you from experience working with hardware that needs to do time-sharing between pieces of hardware that it is not exactly a complicated fix. A fix Sony entirely has the resources and know how to complete...

The workaround is actually very simple and it isn't only used in high end devices. There are many electrical devices that employ a similar method of blending two signals. I highly doubt that Sony would ignore something so obvious staring them straight in the face. It is really a very simple solution, so it shouldn't come at any surprise if it is implemented.

While I very much hope you are right that PS3's are finally in production, those are pics of stickers...all that means is that Sony has those printed up and ready, that doesn't mean that any PS3's have come off the line yet.

Just for the sake of constructive argument, and while I completely believe that Halo 3 will be a great game, what have they given anyone to go off to justify all they hype they have recieved. In reality no series of games will live up to the hype with each iteration. For all anyone knows right now, it could be that Halo 3 could be a giant goose egg and will completely pale in front of all the other FPS's coming out for each console in the future. As I said, I don't expect this...but its the r...

While for the most part I agree with you statement here, you need to recognize and admit that there are some things the 360 can simply do better than the PS3 can. In terms of general processing power, every 360 fan that has told you the 360 is better than the PS3, was right. And for a company that optimizes their games for this, they can achieve amazing results. At the same time you are right about the PS3 being more powerful...but only when it comes to parallel processing. The fact of the ma...

As i stated earlier its idiotic to think that the SPU's aren't running at the same clock speed as the PPU. Simply put, if they didn't have the exact same clock speed, the entire architecture would failure spectacularly as nothing would be syncronous within the chip. Since all processors rely on this, this line of thinking is pure idiocy. In addition, having 3 cores running 2 threads each is not at all like having 6 processors. For all practical purposes, all this allows you to do is run paral...

Each machine is actually vastly different. As I've mentioned before, the Cell easilly trumps the 360 in terms of parallel processing, while the 360 trumps the PS3 in terms of general processing. Depending on which a game is more optimized for, one platform could be vastly superior to the other. In general, I tend to feel that there is more parallel processing in media applications than general processing, but some games are designed exactly the opposite to that.

SPU's are NOT cores, because they don't run independently of the PPU. However, to say that the "speed is being shared" or something to that effect is pure ignorance. The SPU's are part of the Cell processor just the same as the PPU is. The Cell processor's global clock operates at 3.2 GHz. This in turn means that each SPU runs at 3.2 GHz. They DO NOT have an independent clock from the PPU. If they did, it would be impossible for any of the instructions to be performed syncronously w...

While, yes, you are right that that is a statement made by Microsoft's PR group, that doesn't make the information reliable. Companies routinely attack competitor's in such a way. Unfortunately, I know that no matter what anyone here says, you aren't going to believe it. LALALAND told you the truth, the 360 has 3 CORES, NOT 3 CPU's. Just a cursory examination of the definition of a CPU will show you that. If you don't believe me, I challenge you to find a single website that confirms what was...

Microsoft is no better than Sony really. They have both lied and spread propaganda about their console as well as a competitor's console. Each of them is hurt the same by their actions. Each has good things they can point to as well as bad things that others can point to. Microsoft is not really known for having the best products. It is known because everything Microsoft is the standard. Not the standard because of quality, but because of market penetration and volume. Sony is more or less th...
