Oh yes, everyone buying an HDTV is going to go and spend $300+ on a blu-ray player too. Time to return from fantasy land to the real world.
Good conversation dude and it all made good sense. I will give you some bubbles so hopefully in the future you can post more. I totally agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have a buddy with a PS3 so if he gets it i will have to give it a try and see how it is. Maybe the trailers just don't do it justice.
For the record i am 24 and i am a big family guy fan. It isn't because it is cartoony, lots of games are. It is just the impression that i got from watching the trailers.
@ TheExecutive - i just went and watch a few trailers, that is why i was asking if my impression that it seems for kids was correct or did i get the wrong impression? Hence the question, no need to be defensive. It just reminded me of viva pinata a bit, that is all.
A strange story. If people like games then there is no reason why they still wouldn't be playing them online every so often if they like them.
I totally agree that little big planet's graphics are really really good but i just watched two trailers for it on gametrailers and it looks like the game play is more for kids than anything. I have seen lots of people saying they are excited about it and i was just wondering how old you guys are or did i not get a good impression of the game from what i watched?
Any disc will scratch if you beat on it enough. Blu-ray discs just have a scratch resistant coating on them. I still wouldn't want to treat a blu-ray disc like crap though or move a console or player with one spinning inside.
From what i have read if you did manage to scratch a blu-ray disc it could be very bad because the data is closer to the surface of the disc when compared to the likes of dvd.

I was saying that the article is stupid because that is my opinion and the person that submitted the article wrote this - "If ever you needed proof that the Wii is not considered a real gaming system, this may be it". My response that "the wii is a real system" is to that statement.

I agree in regards to a stand-alone being basically a PC and unfortunately for us Canadians the pricing is worse. But my point was if Toshiba can do it, then i am sure sony can. Didn't they even say a few months ago that they were going to control licensing so that they could control production and keep the price inflated? I am sure that article was on here.
Microsoft buying sony's gaming division (even though i don't see it ever happening) would be bad for us gamers. Competition is the best thing because it forces prices down and forces companies to try and keep bettering each other. Just look what happened when HD DVD went down the toilet, prices on many blu-ray players increased and new release players still aren't near mass market pricing. All in all competition is very very good.
Honestly switching discs wouldn't bother me. I am used to it from computer games. I remember when sim city 2000 was on floppy discs and i had to switch those out :-P.
I don't think we need much more than 1080p. Considering you have to be sitting about 6 feet from a 50 inch screen and have 20/20 vision to see the full difference between 720p and 1080p i think we are good with 1080p.

That is a rather sizable disc. It is good to know that if needed, they can produce a disc with that much space.
Either you are unlucky or something may be a miss. Treat your console like an amp. Lots of air flow, no stacking, and open sided shelves are the best. Glass shelves are also really good if possible.
Well said dude. The problem with many of the fanboys on this site (fanboys of the different systems) is that they will use any little thing to try and down the system that they don't support. It is a sad existence, but many of us are fans of gaming and intelligent conversation.
But is disc space really a problem when they can put a game on multiple discs? I have said it before and i will say it again, Baldur's Gate was a fantastic game and that was on 5 discs. Then again i am far from lazy so i have no problem changing discs :-)
Couldn't agree more Isaac, it is time to get some mass adoption pricing going here. If HD-DVD could do it then i am sure sony can. They just need to stop keeping the price elevated.
Forever, because it is a fantastic service and until another service comes along that is better in some shape or form and i can rock Halo 3 on it, i am going to pay the $50 a year. Considering lots of the other trash i have to pay good money for, xbox live is a fantastic deal.
If you think the PS3 does a good job of upconverting a DVD then your mind will be blow away if you ever get the chance to try an Oppo player :-)
