I think this game NEEDED the hype and the high scores and the good sales so other developers and publishers will take risks like this.

This game could be considered a spiritual successor in the genre of games like The Last Express or Gabriel Knight 3. Other than the two I just mentioned and L.A. Noire what other cinematic style, action-puzzle-solving crime thriller is out there? There are none.

Out of the three games I mentioned only L.A. Noire was a commerci...

No they didn't change their tune they just changed their practice.

Making a good game on the PS3 doesn't mean it becomes easier it just means they found a way to make it look that way.

It was the same for the PS2 but at the time multi-platform games were no where near as abundant or as costly as they are now.

Get hot cheerleaders to distract the opposing team?

Yeah, I agree. If it works for getting articles approved it'll work for winning a game.

@Persistantthug

Dude, ALL those games are console-made and ported to PC. That's the point that Ubisoft is trying to get across because they have to optimize games for consoles first and port them to PC.

Even Gabe came on stage at E3 and said Portal 2 was designed for the PS3 first, which translates into a game limited by the current gen hardware and then ported to next-gen PCs.

And mark my words, the AI on BF3 is going to be flatout reta...

Agreed.

It's impossible to advance the industry any further with new software and middleware if it can't run on old hardware.

Games that will eventually use graphics, environment or AI to help tell a story will be extremely limited by today's technology.

If Ubisoft wanted to do a Splinter Cell game where it takes place in a completely open environment where you just had to track down ONE AI enemy who used all sorts of cunning tacti...

You can't have better AI if you do't have more memory to work with. Seems like simple math.

AI eats up a ton of memory and if you want good AI it means you gotta sacrifice A TON of other gameplay options.

Alternatively, you could have extremely smart AI and very challenging, multivarious game mechanics but be prepared to play a game that looks like it came out of the PS2 era.

Dang there's a lot of noobs trolling here.

How the heck are they going to push anymore out of consoles with only 512mb of RAM to work with? Wow, it shows just how ignorant the gaming community is.

Assassin's Creed CANNOT be any better than what it is unless it's specifically made for PC. If Ubisoft pulled a DICE all the console fanboys would complain that the games don't look good enough on the consoles.

Get with the times, t...

So really, you're fine with two more Assassin's Creed games being identical to the last two outings? Gosh, fanboys need to grow up.

People complain about "gameplay" but it still takes hardware to make good gameplay...perhaps more advanced AI other than the numbskull enemies we get in most games. Maybe teammates who can use vehicles without getting stuck in loops (i.e., Halo games)?

Maybe open-world games that don't feel like the world on...

Depending on the F2P title they can be awesome. Allods trumps World of Warcraft in every avenue but most people are wary because it's called Allods Online and it's F2P.

NFS: World is also completely amazing and truthfully, with a high-end PC, there's no reason to buy another console rendition of Need for Speed.

EA is right, some F2P games will eventually start raking in the console-sized dollar bills.

The campaign maps were better in Halo: CE but the story was far superior in Halo 2. It did the opposite of every other shooter out at the time and let gamers play from the perspective of "the enemy" so to speak.

Halo 3 had a ton of weapons and even bigger maps but it was just average.

Halo: CE has the best combat system out of the entire series. Funny because it's called "Combat Evolved".

Totally agreed.

PC gaming was really inaccessible back in the day and the prices were outrageous compared to console gaming (for $2500 you were basically building a PC equivalent to the original Xbox back in 1999).

@awi5951

I can't believe someone disagreed with you. It's TRUE!

The best combo in Halo: CE was the pistol and shotty. You could blast people to bits up close and snipe at long range with the pistol. Beastly.

The dual wielding pistols in Halo 2 were gayed up, same for Halo 3. It would have been cool to have all the weapons from the Halo series but the damage stayed the same from Halo: CE.

Did anyone even bother using t...

What's your specs by the way? I got a ATI HD 4870 2gig video card, 4gig of RAM, Intel Quad-Core for $350.

I'm still trying to figure out if I should upgrade or not for Battlefield 3. I know a lot of newer cards seem to be cheaper (or alternative) versions of existing cards, like the 560ti or the 480ti.

So even if I did decide to upgrade I'm a little stumped on what to upgrade to.

Compared to FFVI it is overrated.

Most people never played VI, though, so the fanboys assume that FFVII is the best, when in fact it pales greatly in comparison to its predecessor in story, character development and plot twists.

Totally agreed.

I thought Sony did a perfect job of spacing out the PS2 to PS3. The hardware leap was very well justified.

While the Xbox graphically destroyed everything on the PS2 the upgrade from the Xbox to the Xbox 360 was like "meh".

Heck, most of the original Xbox games supported 720p so seeing the Xbox 360's offerings never looked all that much like next gen, just more like a slight upgrade.

Expectations may have been high but people would have to be dumb mofos to think that the console version would look the same as the PC version, which was running on the latest Nvidia graphics card.

360 and PS3 can't get any better (visually) than what we've seen in the past three years. Uncharted 2 and Gears 2 is about top of the line for each respective console and the console fanboys need to quit whining and buy a PC if they want something better looking.
