Now the gaming community is going to overlook this game as a cheap L4D knockoff and it's going to really overshadowed by much better games of its type on other platforms (has HVS ever produced an AAA game?). The only reason it was getting any attention was because it stood out amongst the Wii library. Heck, hardly anyone knew HVS existed if it weren't for their Wii efforts.
I sure hope it's not the sucessor to the DS or Wii because that would be a bad business move when both platforms are selling like crazy. And if they keep making compelling software it wii continue to sell. Nintendo shouldn't fall into hardware power arms race.
I expect higher PS3 sales year than last year esp. if there is another price drop. But I have a hunch the Wii is going to have a record sales year.
Why? Epic Mickey, Red Steel2, Sin and Punishment 2, Fragile, Galaxy 2, Monster Hunter 3, Last Story, Xenoblade, Metroid, Zelda, Vitality Sensor and other games Nintendo is secretive about all in one year! You saw the Wii sell like hotcakes with hardly any top quality titles in 2009. Man you ain't seen nothin' yet.
IMO the first one was just OK. It was rough around the hedges and the combat felt repetitive. What stood out were the boss fights, dialogue and overall style.
I will still check out the sequel especially with the great reviews.
Nintendo has been making the same type of games since the 80s. Saying they abandoned the "hardcore" is ridiculous. Just because they make games such as Wii Fit and Wii Sports doesn't mean they went all "casual" (Remember the Power Pad for the NES? Or Super Scope 6 for the SNES?). Nintendo released as many "hardcore" games for the Wii in the first 3 years as they did for the GC and N64 in its first 3 years.
People, please get your facts straight.
Tough decision.
Where were all these great 3rd party Wii games a year ago?
”Motion controlls are a gimmick. When I come home from work I want to sit down with a control pad to play games not look silly flailing around.”
*@ e3 Microsoft announces Natal and Sony announces wand motion controllers*
“This is going to be awesome. It's better than Wii, I can't wait to try it.”
”No, the Natal is better because you can control the game with motion using your whole body”
Hypocrites.
I like Brawl, New Mario Wii, and Galaxy. I like creating my Mii. I like the weather channel. I like playing golf on Resort. I like when the white obelisk flashes blue at random times.
Heck, I do like the Wii.
Big budget games like Madworld and The Conduit? There are many Gamecube games with bigger budgets and more importantly better gameplay. I have Madworld because I fail for the hype. The extremely repetitive and short. The game would have sold worse on the HD twins. The only reason why it got so much internet hype because it's extreme violence which a lot of gamers equate with mature (it's ridiculous on what pass for mature gaming these days).
Third parties put half hearted effor...
I was underwhelmed by NSMB Wii's graphics, I was even underwhelmed by the game because it was too easy for me. But once you hit world 7 and go hunting for all the star coins thats where the challenged amped up and the game became pure fun. I didn't even notice the uninspired graphics then.
For some reason I think Nintendo is trying to make a statement to the video game industry that having fun with the game is most important and gamers for the most part dont care fancy schmancy...
Third parties: "We are going to focus development on PS3/360 because Wii sales are slowing down.... ahhhh damn... nevermind"
You made Wii Sports and we got a lot of copycats and same with Wii Fit and now NSMB Wii. Oh wait that's a good thing. I love multiplayer 2d sidecrollers.
Keep being a trendsetter Nintendo.
When Mario Wii reaches 20 million sold we are going to see a lot more multiplayer 2d platformers (which I am all for). This is a me too industry.
I like how Nintendo is a trendsetter. There were Wii Sports copycats and Wii Fit copycats.
I seriously can't believe people can be really that stupid to why many 3rd party games don't hit Nintendo number in sales. I would expect it from random, ill-informed gamers on forums but not from people in the video game industry.
For the most part, good Wii games do sell better.
Examples:
1. Tiger Woods sells much better on Wii than any other platform.
2. Monster Hunter 3 was one of the best selling games on any platform in Japan last year...
Mario Galaxy is one of the most brilliant game I've ever played. 3D platforming at its finest. I just wished is was a little more difficult.
If the Wii was HD it would have cost more and the price is the big part of Wiis success. Ninty also forseen increase development costs with HD consoles which is a big reason why studios and publishers have gone under.
Zelda TP, Brawl, Galaxy, Punch Out, Fire Emblem, and Metroid P 3 all sold really well so I find the notion winning back the core ridiculous.
What Ninty should continue to do is carve their own path while the 2 corporate giants follow.
When New Super Mario Bros. Wii reach 25 million in sales Sony is going to announce New Super Sackboy.
Wii Fit is actually fun. Play it with your girl it's pretty cool.
Natal is NOT aimed at core gamers so don't expect adventure, action or any kind of big budget games. Natal is Microsoft's attempt at the Wii crowd. Microsoft will do anything to fufill their goal of dominating people's living rooms with their hardware even if it means taking a page from Nintendo's playbook.
Excuse my ignorance but what does it mean when it has gone gold?
