Gamespot did a live webcast when they got their test PS3 and they played Ridge Racer 7 which is a 1080p game and it displayed just fine on their 720p tv.

In order to have viruses be effective you need alot of things to work together. First you need a commmon OS like Windows that most people use. Linux has many different flavors and configurations so makes it alot harder not to mention its not widely used. Then you need a common email program like Outlook. The one on the left is 720p and is RR6 on the 360 and the one on the right is RR7 at 1080p on the PS3. I personally like the picture on the right as the level of detail at distance is far greater and gives it a more realistic look. The shadowing is better and so is the reflection coming from the car.

The PS3 comes with its own OS as does the Xbox 360. You can however install a second OS on the PS3 and hence why it says you can install another OS.
The only OS that I am aware of that has been made to run with the PS3 is Yellow Dog Linux although in time there maybe other versions (flavors) of Linux. I very much doubt you will ever see Windows run on a PS3 if it does it would not be anything functional. (See Bill Nye response in 11.1) Once you have the OS installed ...
They set the bar high and make sure their games look good no matter what system it's running on. I wish every developer had this kind of attitude. I agree HyperBear that NBA 07 was not anywhere near as good as NBA 2K7.
