Dr. McCoy said it best. “It’s dead, Jim.”
I'd love to see it. I loved the series. Insomniac has said in the past that they're "done" with the franchise. Of course, that doesn't mean things can't change. Money talks and whatnot. And new hardware may drive inspiration for new ideas. And, of course, hypothetical mandates from Sony HQ for system-selling titles from a well-known franchise wouldn't hurt either.
Should have put Felcia Day in for Elena. Dr. Horrible virtual reunion!
LOL, the people downvoting my previous comment clearly don't know anything. Every PS3 ever made will play PS1 game discs. Yes, even today, with the latest firmware updates installed. No jailbreak or other hacks needed. PS1 support does not, and I don't believe ever has, relied on the presence of PS2 hardware in the console to function. I have a PS3 Slim (first version made after all PS2 hardware was removed) with the latest firmware and it runs PS1 discs just fine. Here's a v...
@ shuvam09, Not true. All PS3 models will play PS1 games regardless if they're PS2 compatible models or not.
That’s a pretty low bar for comparison, if you ask me. The only way it could be weaker is if there’s no Gears or Halo games in the pipe. I have zero interest in anything I’ve seen on their platform that I can’t get on PC or on another console.
I don't mind Sony's approach on this. I just wish their batteries had a bit higher capacity and they made them a little simpler to replace when they start to wear out. It's not super hard to change them now, but it certainly could be easier.
That don't look like Kid 'n Play...
Looks more appealing than what, exactly? A brick smeared with dog crap? I guess I could believe that. MS has yet to build a system that lands a significant number of titles that I want to play. The exclusives make the difference for me, and MS just hasn't been able to deliver there IMHO. I don't care if it is more powerful if I have next to zero desire to play any exclusives on it. Sony's got a better feel for what kinds of exclusives I want to see and the cross-platform titl...
Someone should tell Mr. Gilbert here to re-listen and re-read what Sony said. 100 games tested so far does not in any way mean that only those 100 games will work.
Hasn't Microsoft had the most powerful system every generation since they got in the market, at least from a raw technical standpoint anyway? I know Sony had the lead in horsepower initially this current gen, but on the "half-gen" refreshed models they conceded that crown to MS. Still didn't change their market position. It shows that raw power isn't everything. Sony has demonstrated that over and over again. Nintendo, too, for that matter, to an even larger extent ...
Everquest already proves Sony can make money on PC platform. I don’t think there was ever doubt about being able to sell games there. They simply saw it as diluting their market for PS console games if they also release on PC, which a disincentive for customers to invest in their hardware platform. Older games are a different story and it’s a chance to market a previously exclusive title to a new market segment and re-energize cash flow on them for a relatively low investment cost.
Sony: “Good! We never invited you the party anyway, right, Nintendo?”
Nintendo: “Right!”
Sega: “Hey, what about us? Sega does what Ninten...”
Everyone: “Shut up!”
Same. That’s what I did with PS3 and PS4. I’d expect no different here.
It’s got a power level over 9000?
Our local kiosks haven’t had jack squat for games for the last 2-3 years. People kept stealing them, so I think they gave up. Last time I tried renting a game (had a free rental credit), the machine just popped out an empty case. I called it in to customer support within a minute of swiping my card at the kiosk so I could dispute it. The CSR said it was good I called right away about it and didn’t just return the empty case without saying anything or I could have ended up getting billed b...
Microsoft has, I believe, ultimately finished in last place in hardware sales every generation they’ve tried so far, possibly with the only exception being the Wii U maybe selling worse. I’d have to check the numbers again. What makes anyone think the next gen will be any different?
It’s probably better suited as a specialized co-processor than it is as the main general-purpose CPU, though. It’s only really good at running certain kinds of code and certain types of calculations. It’s only average at performing as the main system processor which then takes away resources and processing cycles from doing what it’s actually good at. A well-designed general purpose CPU may have a lower peak potential but it’s easier to use the available power for more things and will resu...
This isn’t like a movie or a single game title where the opening week sales is a make or break situation. It’s a whole new platform for a company that is making their first dive into the biz and it’s going to take a lot more than one week for them to settle in. Anyone who wasn’t expecting a rocky start and had set their hopes and expectations too high was let down. Calm your tits, people. The game hardware/platform biz is a marathon, not a sprint.
OK, was someone doubting this? Kinda random thing to throw out there isn't it? I thought this was already pretty well understood among their customers....They aren't doing any thing significantly different than they and their competitors have all already been doing for at least 14 years.
