In other words, "We admit we cannot compete the hardware space, so we're trying to on the Games as a Service side instead. Since no one wants our hardware, we have to put the games on the hardware you already have and do it better than, or in a different way than, all our failed competitors who tried this before us."
Face it. Plenty have tried this already with hardware you've already got, or perhaps with just a cheap dedicated client box, and it hasn&...
I agree with a lot of the critics that say Sony hasn’t done a good enough job in highlighting the improvements. Standard PS5 just looks “good enough” considering the substantial price gap. If I didn’t already have a PS5, maybe I’d consider getting it, but I’d also maybe consider upgrades for my PC instead. Considering how often I game on my PS5 these days compared to my PC, it’s becoming an easier choice to invest in the computer instead of a console. Steam is bringing a console like expe...
I tend to agree. The Ally’s LCD is very good, but hard to ignore the potential power savings with an OLED. And for this large of a price premium over the Deck, I’d expect it.
Even the steam deck channels I watch on YouTube the guys pretty much all like the Ally X with the biggest criticism being the price at $800. That’s a lotta extra dough to finally have a product that they felt held a leg up on the Deck with all things considered. The OG model beat the Deck in terms of pixel count and performance in some circumstances, but the overall experience was always same or worse that the Deck (OS, amount of tinkering needed, battery life, warranty/customer support, an...
Who is Eric Snowden? You mean Edward Snowden?
I agree with his point here, but overall I find this guy possibly the least likeable face of SIE that they've put on a stage in front of gamers. Kaz Hirai and Jack Tretton were so much better. Jack was especially good at interviews and presenting stuff on stage. And let's not forget fictional VP of Everything Kevin Butler. That guy was money. If Sony's marketing team had half a brain, they'd throw some money at that guy again and repair that bridge they burned with him. I...
Yes. It would be pretty stupid to buy a PlayStation if all you want to play are Mario, Metroid and Zelda games. So, yes, of course it still matters. Duh.
Everything I heard them say is nothing new. Exact same business operations they’ve been doing for years. A small handful of games are going multi platform? So what? Nothing new there. They’re planning the next gen of hardware and hyping it as a big leap over current gen? So, same thing we hear every generation.. They’re still doing their own exclusives? Thanks, Captain Obvious, for such enlightening news…
They said a lot of words over 20+ minutes without saying anyth...
14.4 million is a strange number to be considered a milestone. Is there some significance to this number that was not mentioned in the article?
@Cacabunga: ModNation Racers was a great game. I mostly quit playing it because of the obnoxious amount of waiting on loading screens. Once you're into the race, though, it's really outstanding and I have more fun with it than Mario Kart. Was that game available as a download version or was it only on physical disc? I imagine running a downloaded version from the PSN Store would help cut down load time considerably instead of having to load everything from the blu-ray disc.
Me either. Never had it on any controllers on any system in my 40 years of video gaming. I'm not convinced that it is as big of a problem as people make it out to be. I never even heard the term prior to the issues people had on the Switch joy cons and I've never heard of many people having the issue on any other system. Certainly, controllers and the sticks on those controllers do wear our over time, but "stick drift" as I understand the issue it does not seem to be a ...
Hot take: Stick drift just isn't that much of a problem outside of the Nintendo Switch and never has been, so quit getting so bent out of shape about it.
I've been gaming on many different consoles and PC's since the early 80's and I've never once run into this as a problem. I've had some consoles with overly large dead zones at center position, but never had a problem with "stick drift" though I have had a few broken sticks over the years...
They did good with the music choice. It really was driving me insane like any Lovecraft game should.
Nearly every online multiplayer game ever in the last 20+ years has had this problem and that's why I simply don't play online with anonymous randos and haven't really done so since the old days of playing Quake, Duke 3D, or Mechwarrior II. People too often suck, act obnoxious because they can, and just bring more annoyance to a game than they bring any kind of redeeming entertainment value. Not only that, but a lot of games have serious match-making issues in putting you into g...
Clearly you haven't checked out the listings in the "Adult Only" section of Steam. They've got stuff with sexual content that is about as graphically depicted as you can get. I'm guessing their line is in combining graphic violence with the sexual content. Straight up murdering people while screwing them with the level of immersion of a VR game is getting into actual real life serial killer fantasy stuff rather than just your run-of-the-mill porno content.
Yes.
They're both built for gaming and both competing for your hands, eyeballs, and time. Time and money spent on one device is time and money not spent on another. So, I disagree wholeheartedly. The technical specs of the hardware and OS they run are nearly entirely irrelevant. Ain't nobody sitting around and using a Steam Deck as a laptop often enough to consider that a thing even worth thinking about as a differentiating factor. They absolutely are competing with Switch in all ways ...
OK, so don't do it then? Pretty sure it's still up to them to set the prices for their games judging by the wildly diverse range of prices for games being sold in B&M and electronic stores.
So, just add funds to your steam wallet and then use that to buy the games instead. It’s not that hard to figure out.
