They've got a loaded gun and the're shooting themselves in the foot...
I agree its a bad idea. But it is more preferable than having to purchase a network pass with each game - and cheaper.
Plus (+) you can still use netflix, lovefilm, etc. for free on PS4. That is important.
And you get cloud game saves and free games on PS4, PS3 & PS Vita. That is an amazing deal.

Funniest commercial ever from Sony!!
Have watched these conferences for a few years now and the crowd reactions are always very mute. I have never seen and heard a reaction like Sony got.
This DRM is at the core for many gamers. I feel like the consumer won!
Oh no! It get's worse..
I have a bad feeling that they don't think their games are going to stand up to Sony's. Don't throw in the towel so early..
Lets just clear this up - we are aiming all this at MS and not the millions of loyal fans who bought and play the 360..
Up to now, despite the more powerful CPU/GPU of modern PCs, the best crafted and optimised games have been on consoles. Its easier to max a system when you know its specific hardware.
But a strange thing may happen with the PS4 being such a gaming beast and adopting a PC-like architecture.
We may get more PC developed games. And even more new PC games actually being ported to the PS4. With Sony's developer focus we may get an exciting explosion of games f...
You can still love your 360 and get a PS4!!
You are trying to link 2 different things here.
The Last Of Us may just be that brilliant. Time will tell.
But I agree IGN has been shifting lately. The PS4 and the XB1 fiasco seems to have swayed them sone how.
I just wish they has been impartial these past years and not viewed everything through MS-tinted specs.
So you bat for both teams???
There does SEEM a bigger difference with PS4/XB1.
If it translates as I suspect it will then the difference will be seen on Day One - not years!
Give it until the New Year when we have the consoles and games.
Relying on cloud for more computational grunt is admitting you don't yet have sufficient power in the console itself.
Just admit it.
If cloud does provide more processing over time then more power to MS. But at best its a concept right now.
I expected a close rival in terms of gaming and functionality - it seemed the rumours proved true.
I suggest people hope for the best regarding XB1 but expect the worse. Usually when every one in the organisation has a different view on what the product is it means bad news.
We will all know in a week (or will we?).
Agreed. MS can afford to undercut Sony.
I predict the PS4 will be £400 or less. That seems a good top price point. But its better for all of us if they are both cheaper.
Respect...
I am really trying not to be disrespectful about the naming of Xbox One. I have no bones to pick with anyone.
But I am finding it more difficult not to say XBone.
Bet they paid some marketing genius thousands to come up with that name.
How can people disagree that you are going to buy two. Do they know you personally? Lol.
Who's dumb enough to buy into that, you ask?
Buy a console (360)
Buy an expensive MS Hard Disk
Buy a wifi dongle
Buy an external HDDVD player
Buy batteries or controller charger lead
Buy years subscription just to play on line
Does that answer your question?
But I do agree that MS will sell XB1 the same or cheaper. They can afford to do so.
My biggest surprise came when I tried to play a movie file on the 360 via USB memory stick. It would not allow it.
I can play MP4 and WMV (Microsoft Windows format) files on the PS3. It shocked me. I hope these restrictions go this time.
Why are MS so mistrusting of us gamers?
