I would enjoy seeing some side story explored from Vincent and Red XIII. The character back story would be awesome to see fleshed out to put a bow on the FF VII universe and help expand the canon around the life stream energy.
If it’s anything like Deck, it will be less jank than Windows 11 for gaming at this point. It’s sort of embarrassing that SteamOS can often outperform Windows on AAA games even running them through a compatibility layer like Proton. I wouldn’t count Valve out, or people’s massive Steam libraries looking for a new home in the living room.
If they keep pushing the industry forward, raising the bar on tech and development quality, and making their platform the best value per pixel then I completely agree with them.
PC’s can’t readily compete with PS5’s performance for the same price if all you’re looking for is AAA gaming. For casual gaming Deck is the best value around IMO, and it’s barely a PC in how it functions, which is most of the appeal.
Thankfully Sony is also investing in PC after ...
How rare this has happened is testament to how unusual the circumstance is that Valve took this approach. It was a “brand new” $70 game release. If something seems way too good to be true there is usually a catch. This accident was beyond the pale, and proves Valve also takes a position to backup publishers and resellers as much as they do consumers. It should be fair for all parties whenever possible.
Now if they wanted to do something nice to the folks who felt ripped...
Yep, because this has nothing to do with them. HB obviously didn’t want to pay Valve and the Publisher for all the accidental free copies. Trying to keep them when they “gave them away” in error would be theft.
I’d rather it was Sony than Tencent (CCP) or Embracer, or the myriad of conglomerates that don’t seem to know how to foster quality development cycles and content. Sony has a pretty solid reputation for being hands off and offering large budgets, so this is probably the best outcome for From Software.
Ray Tracing is overrated. Other graphical tricks like Global illumination makes a bigger visual difference IMO.
I’ve been running it on low/med on my Steam Deck and it’s been playing fine for the most part at 30fps. I wouldn’t say it’s inaccessible.
I think they’ve proven with Deck the three key things needed for this to be a success this time:
1: standardization of compatibility
2: proton
3: low cost of entry
APU performance is “good enough” now to make a very competent, compact, near silent “console” style mini PC if handheld gaming isnt your thing. It might even be lower cost than the Deck without that OLED panel.
Should already be the case since that’s the way it works between a normal Windows PC running Steam and the Steam Deck.
Agreed. If it was just a high end APU based micro PC like a Deck without the screen and controls but included Thunderbolt 5 ports for high speed EGPU support it would meet the needs of most users.
Me and my fiancé have been playing this one daily in co-op on our Steamdecks. It’s really a relaxing and beautiful little game with lots of secrets and tons to do. Highly recommended.
Incredible. This really brought back a lot of memories growing up with PlayStation.
Glad I got my 4090 while I could. It’s been amazing with everything I’ve thrown at it.
*yawn* same story from MS and their ring kissing fan club every year, same stagnation being masked by price hikes to increase reported revenue and all at the expense of their console sales and dwindling presence in stores. More proof they only care about becoming a boring monthly service and giving up on driving technology in the gaming space forward. Thats a loss of all of us as gamers. I hope that cheap sub was worth giving up what made XBOX great in the beginning.
Pretty sure most people know MS owns COD now. And also pretty sure most people don’t care who owns it and don’t give a crap about actually buying a copy. Problem with MS situation is they really need to pay back that $70bn debt they paid mostly for COD. Hence choosing to cut that trial before it releases and make more profit vs expanding the GP user count. Look forward to a steady stepping up in pricing as well.
VR is really starting to flesh out recently. The hardware is finally getting accessible and with the quality it takes to deliver a compelling and immersive experience. Good times ahead. I hope Flat2VR Studios can bridge the gap with some excellent conversions as the industry matures.
I’ve never heard of this game, and I have a ton of games. Maybe it’s a problem with their marketing?
I 100% agree. I dont have a problem with the flood of other handheld PC's that have come out since the Deck, but I'm really glad Valve is keeping a steadier approach to refreshes. Its about the development community being able to keep focused on a baseline like the Deck to provide an optimized experience. If they refreshed constantly, that huge perk of the Steam Deck would be out the window.
lol. Foxtrot is clearly not one of the “fans” they’re talking about who love the FF VII universe.
