Gamers want double performance at any cost every few years, and he delivers. I’m not sure how that makes him the bad guy. AMD exists for budget gamers who don’t mind waiting for the future. Nvidia has no problem charging you to have it now.
You think Valve cares? Steam eclipses Nintendo in raw game sales and number of devices where it is the primary sales platform. Deck is one of many handhelds Steam exists on, and SteamOS is only going to broaden the market for them. Some gamers are still stuck thinking in terms of console wars. Microsoft figured this out with XBox a while ago and now we’re seeing the fruits of that same realization on every platform.
And despite that, some of us will still be primarily using the Deck from here on out and primarily buying digital games on Steam. I have a massive Switch physical library, but I personally don’t see Switch 2 even coming close to what made Switch 1 a commodity item for the average gamer especially now that devices like Deck exist, and also now that $80 Nintendo games are here and game-key card are becoming the norm. A lot has changed this time. No doubt games sell hardware, but I don’t for ...
Been feeling like this was inevitable for a while. MS provides services now. Even Windows is a bloated service. SteamOS is gaming focussed, trim like Windows XP used to be, customizable and provides the basic desktop OS features any gamer will need. The only tiny hangup that will hopefully go away as the user base grows is support from the few remaining anti-cheat services, and then it’s golden. Very excited for where Valve is taking gaming.
I’ll be sticking with my SteamDeck.
“VR is dead” is the same flavor of nonsense as the classic “Nintendo is doomed”. Anyways, VR is amazing in 2025 and getting massively better every year.
With DLSS and newer architecture it’s a small miracle of modern tech it can even run well on 9W. The fact that the PS5 build only runs sub 4K at around 1400P, and we’re critiquing a tiny handheld for hitting 1080P/30 high settings and upscaling to 4K is nitpicking at its finest.
A summary of DF’s remarks on PS4 performance by comparison: “PS4 Dynamic 720 - 900P but spends most of the time at 720p. Hardly ever holds 30fps, dips to the mid teens sometimes, and 20s while driv...
I had a similar experience when I initially pre-ordered my Deck. There was an issue during shipping and they offered me a customer service perk for the hassle and let me pick any game on Steam. It was super nice of them. I got a copy of Rime.
I notice you left out Wii vs. PS3 / 360, Switch vs. PS4 / XBO. Comparing to Nintendo, the war was always Microsoft in a distant 3rd. Nintendo’s family catered audience doesn’t make them any less a valid industry contender.
Well said.
lol, celebrating consolidation. Good thing this is the deal that broke Microsoft’s back and made them go the 3rd party route on every platform.
I 100% agree. I’d like to know if the big corpo publishers demanded this option from Nintendo to water down physical releases and keep pushing consumers towards giving them full control over listing and delisting, pricing and resale in the digital medium. I personally will never buy even one of these lame boxed download code carts, especially when it’s a handheld / mobile platform they’re targeting with this rubbish where offline play is common.
The resurgence of vinyl begs to differ.
This is lame. The game was really good for what it was if you’re fan of the Bruce Campbell movies.
Switch 1 is my favorite console of all time and I’ve collected the largest library for it vs all of my other consoles. The hybrid design and the “good enough” graphics have given me exactly what I need at this point in my life around work and travel. I’m really glad they stuck with that design.
Personally, I’m not very hyped about Switch 2 due to higher prices and the “game key cards” 3rd parties are already abusing. But mostly I’m not hyped because it’s predictable and ...
IMO, 540P upscaled in portable mode to a 1080P screen using DLSS on the tensor cores will likely extend battery life using a lower TDP and provide much better anti-aliasing and similar clarity compared to native 1080P with med/low AA at a higher TDP. It’s just a better way to use a mobile chipset. That’s not a flaw or weakness, it’s a key benefit for the portable design of the platform.
Easy day 1 purchase. This series is as close to F-Zero GX and Wipeout as we’re going to get. The fact that it’s a bargain makes it even better.
lol, there’s so much hyperbole in the replies. Plenty of people to this day still insist Switch is too weak and assumed it would fail. Hate to break it to you, it’s one of the best selling systems of all time with the largest library of almost any non-PC platform. Switch 2 is going to do just fine. These are launch games, this is a quick and dirty port and DLSS is pulling all the weight, and this is hardly representative of what any optimized title will be able to achieve.
What? Do you have a Deck? I’ve got both of ESO:R and BG3 on my Deck and they play fine.
It’s an excellent quality device. It’s everything I hoped for in a Switch “Pro”. The screen is huge and bright, the controllers are excellent, Game Chat is awesome, audio and graphics are crisp and high quality. I’m loving it. Between Switch 2 and SteamDeck OLED I can play almost anything and have PC level controls on both platforms anywhere I’m traveling. Truly amazing mobile technology right now.
